Will Earth be detonated in a grand cosmic event? Well of course not. There wouldn't be much of a tale if that were to happen! In this intensely erotic , explicit, and lighthearted story of gender transformation we follow the lusty and sensual exploits of a young married couple who have transformed into the opposite sex through some bizarre event caused by the celestial event. We focus on Charles, an up and coming lawyer in 1957 as he discovers the wonders of his new buxom and sensuously feminine form, how he has transformed not only physically but emotionally as well. Charles experiences not only new desires, lustful urges for his wife who is now a man, but also what it feels like for a woman to walk - bounce and jiggle really - through a man's world. This intensely erotic story will keep the pages turning as Charles uncovers the secret desires and internal passions of the female sex as he - now she - wanders through the soft, delicate, and sensual world of the fairer sex yearning for emotional and physical fulfillment."Dwindle Gee is one of the most powerful new voices writing on transgendered and body transformation themes. Dwindle's work is intensely and powerfully erotic and arousing while always carrying an undercurrent of tenderness and longing that bonds the characters in an emotional web. Lust, passion, and carnal desires abound yet all the while love lingers around the edges waiting for an opportunity to join in the fun. Dwindle writes about our deepest and darkest and most secretive cravings while never straying from the strongest emotions - love and compassion and intimacy - that tie us all together. In all the sex and rutting Dwindle never removes our humanity giving the characters a powerfully emotional strength rarely seen in erotic storytelling."- A.A. L'Argent

Book Stars Fans and Consumption in the 1950s

Download or read book Stars Fans and Consumption in the 1950s written by Sumiko Higashi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the leading fan magazine in the postwar era, Photoplay constructed female stars as social types who embodied a romantic and leisured California lifestyle. Addressing working- and lower-middle-class readers who were prospering in the first mass consumption society, the magazine published not only publicity stories but also beauty secrets, fashion layouts, interior design tips, recipes, advice columns, and vacation guides. Postwar femininity was constructed in terms of access to commodities in suburban houses as the site of family togetherness. As the decade progressed, however, changing social mores regarding female identity and behavior eroded the relationship between idolized stars and worshipful fans. When the magazine adopted tabloid conventions to report sex scandals like the Debbie-Eddie-Liz affair, stars were demystified and fans became scandalmongers. But the construction of female identity based on goods and performance that resulted in unstable, fragmented selves remains a legacy evident in postmodern culture today.

Book excerpt: The Decades of Modern American Drama series provides a comprehensive survey and study of the theatre produced in each decade from the 1930s to 2009 in eight volumes. Each volume equips readers with a detailed understanding of the context from which work emerged: an introduction considers life in the decade with a focus on domestic life and conditions, social changes, culture, media, technology, industry and political events; while a chapter on the theatre of the decade offers a wide-ranging and thorough survey of theatres, companies, dramatists, new movements and developments in response to the economic and political conditions of the day. The work of the four most prominent playwrights from the decade receives in-depth analysis and re-evaluation by a team of experts, together with commentary on their subsequent work and legacy. A final section brings together original documents such as interviews with the playwrights and with directors, drafts of play scenes, and other previously unpublished material. The major writers and their works to receive in-depth coverage in this volume include: * William Inge: Picnic (1953), Bus Stop (1955) and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1957); * Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents and Jerome Robbins: West Side Story (1957) and Gypsy (1959); * Alice Childress: Just a Little Simple (1950), Gold Through the Trees (1952) and Trouble in Mind (1955); * Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee: Inherit the Wind (1955), Auntie Mame (1956) and The Gang's All Here (1959).

Book Scoring the Hollywood Actor in the 1950s

Download or read book Scoring the Hollywood Actor in the 1950s written by Gregory Camp and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-30 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scoring the Hollywood Actor in the 1950s theorises the connections between film acting and film music using the films of the 1950s as case studies. Closely examining performances of such actors as James Dean, Montgomery Clift, and Marilyn Monroe, and films of directors like Elia Kazan, Douglas Sirk, and Alfred Hitchcock, this volume provides a comprehensive view of how screen performance has been musicalised, including examination of the role of music in relation to the creation of cinematic performances and the perception of an actor’s performance. The book also explores the idea of music as a temporal vector which mirrors the temporal vector of actors’ voices and movements, ultimately demonstrating how acting and music go together to create a forward axis of time in the films of the 1950s. This is a valuable resource for scholars and researchers of musicology, film music and film studies more generally.

Book Women in American Operas of The 1950s

Download or read book Women in American Operas of The 1950s written by Monica A. Hershberger and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2023 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first feminist analysis of some of the most performed works in the American-opera canon, emphasizing the voices and perspectives of the sopranos who brought these operas to life. In the 1950s, composers and librettists in the United States were busy seeking to create an opera repertory that would be deeply responsive to American culture and American concerns. They did not break free, however, of the age-old paradigm so typically expressed in European opera: that is, of women as either saintly and pure or sexually corrupt, with no middle ground. As a result, in American opera of the 1950s, women risked becoming once again opera's inevitable victims. Yet the sopranos who were tasked with portraying these paragons of virtue and their opposites did not always take them as their composers and librettists made them. Sometimes they rewrote, through their performances, the roles they had been assigned. Sometimes they used their lived experiences to invest greater authenticity in the roles. With chapters on The Tender Land, Susannah, The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Lizzie Borden, this book analyzes some of the most performed yet understudied works in the American-opera canon. It acknowledges Catherine Clément's famous description of opera as "the undoing of women," while at the same time illuminating how singers like Beverly Sills and Phyllis Curtin worked to resist such undoing, years before the official resurgence of the American feminist movement. In short, they ended up helping to dismantle powerful gendered stereotypes that had often reigned unquestioned in opera houses until then.

Download or read book A World Made Sexy written by Paul Rutherford and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " Eroticism is a constant presence in modern society, encompassing almost every aspect of our daily lives. It is a product of one of the major commercial and political enterprises of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: the cultivation of desire – desire for sex, desire for wealth, desire for entertainment. Paul Rutherford's A World Made Sexy looks at modern civilization's ongoing project to manufacture and encourage public wants, building a utopia where just about everyone (who is affluent) dreams, plays, and, of course, shops. A World Made Sexy uses museum exhibitions, art, books, magazines, films, and television to examine the rise and purpose of eroticism, first in America but soon across the affluent world. Starting with a brief foray into the representation of history as past pornography, Rutherford explores a sexual liberation movement shaped by the ideas of Marx and Freud, the erotic styles of Salvador Dali and pop art, the pioneering use of publicity as erotica by Playboy and other products, and the growing concerns of cultural critics over the emergence of a regime of stimulation. In one case study, Rutherford pairs James Bond and Madonna in order to examine the link between eroticism and aggression. He further details how television advertising after 1980 constructed a theatre of the libido to entice the buying public, and concludes by situating the Eros project in the wider context of Michel Foucault's account of the administration of life, and specifically sexuality, during the modern era. A World Made Sexy is about power and pleasure, emancipation and domination, and the relationship between the personal passions and social controls that have crafted desire. "
