Book excerpt: A thousand years have passed since The Fortunate were imprisoned beneath the cold and ice of Heldig Fengsel, and their freedom is now at hand. All that stands against them, and their gluttonous subjugation of the land, are the Lion of Forson, her Hammer, and her Spear—three heroes with near-supernatural abilities. Legend says they will come forth when the time is ripe and lead the people of the One Nation into battle against the Fortunate to ensure that never again will they be relegated to The Lesser. Even with these heroes, plans will need to be drawn and alliances strengthened, if they are to have any hope of prevailing against a force with far superior numbers and a wrath that has been building for a millennium. With assistance from their comrades in arms, twin brothers Edouard and Alton—presumed by many to be the prophesized Hammer and Spear— will have to survive mortal danger around every turn as they endeavor to prepare their people, and the Lion of Forson, for a battle that threatens to end their way of life and change the face of the One Nation forever. The Second Wave is the second book of the Hammer and Spear Trilogy, following The Last Line (2021), and like its predecessor, will keep readers teetering on the edge of their seats.

Book How India Coped with the Second Wave of COVID 19

Download or read book How India Coped with the Second Wave of COVID 19 written by Antara Choudhury and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-07-19 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book captures the big picture of the COVID-19 scenario in India in the year 2021, by stitching together the writings of people with a ringside view of different facets of the second wave, which was markedly different from the first wave. While it is currently too early to objectively research COVID-19 and its impact on society for want of adequate temporal distance, this book serves to record the events authentically. Covering a span of three to four months of the peaking pandemic in India, it presents a vivid idea of the onslaught, complexities, confusion, chaos, and indecision in every field, amplified by the suddenness and ferociousness of the second wave. The book will appeal to researchers in health care, community health, public policy, administration, governance, mental health, and other interdisciplinary domains.

Book excerpt: The present volume, Practitioners' Experiences in Tackling the Second Wave of the Coronavirus Pandemic in Indian Villages: A Compendium of Statewise Deliberations - Rural Realities 2021is a compilation of intellectual and analytical deliberations on the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural India. It incorporates the composition of policymakers, practitioners, researchers, faculty, and University and college students across India and other countries. The series focuses on the states and union territories of India, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. The objective is to acknowledge the geographic, socio-economic and political uniqueness and suggest recommendations in accordance with these differences.

Book The Leap

  • Publisher : New World Library
  • Release : 2017-02-14
  • ISBN : 1608684474
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book The Leap written by Steve Taylor and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be enlightened or spiritually awakened? In The Leap, Steve Taylor shows that this state is much more common than is generally believed. He shows that ordinary people — from all walks of life — can and do regularly “wake up” to a more intense reality, even if they know nothing about spiritual practices and paths. Wakefulness is a more expansive and harmonious state of being that can be cultivated or that can arise accidentally. It may also be a process we are undergoing collectively. Drawing on his years of research as a psychologist and on his own experiences, Taylor provides what is perhaps the clearest psychological study of the state of wakefulness ever published. Above all, he reminds us that it is our most natural state — accessible to us all, anytime, anyplace.

Book An evolving paradigm of agricultural mechanization development How much can Africa learn from Asia

Download or read book An evolving paradigm of agricultural mechanization development How much can Africa learn from Asia written by Diao, Xinshen, ed. and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural mechanization in Africa south of the Sahara — especially for small farms and businesses — requires a new paradigm to meet the needs of the continent’s evolving farming systems. Can Asia, with its recent success in adopting mechanization, offer a model for Africa? An Evolving Paradigm of Agricultural Mechanization Development analyzes the experiences of eight Asian and five African countries. The authors explore crucial government roles in boosting and supporting mechanization, from import policies to promotion policies to public good policies. Potential approaches presented to facilitating mechanization in Africa include prioritizing market-led hiring services, eliminating distortions, and developing appropriate technologies for the African context. The role of agricultural mechanization within overall agricultural and rural transformation strategies in Africa is also discussed. The book’s recommendations and insights should be useful to national policymakers and the development community, who can adapt this knowledge to local contexts and use it as a foundation for further research.

Download or read book Quiet Rebels written by Mary Jane Mossman and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “It’s a girl!” the Ontario press announced, as Canada’s first woman lawyer was called to the Ontario bar in February 1897. Quiet Rebels explores experiences of exclusion among the few women lawyers for the next six decades, and how their experiences continue to shape gender issues in the contemporary legal profession. Mary Jane Mossman tells the stories of all 187 Ontario women lawyers called to the bar from 1897 to 1957, revealing the legal profession’s gendered patterns. Comprising a small handful of students—or even a single student—at the Law School, women were often ignored, and they faced discrimination in obtaining articling positions and legal employment. Most were Protestant, white, and middle-class, and a minority of Jewish, Catholic, Black, and immigrant women lawyers faced even greater challenges. The book also explores some changes, as well as continuities, for the much larger numbers of Ontario women lawyers in recent decades. This longitudinal study of women lawyers’ gendered experiences in the profession during six decades of social, economic, and political change in early twentieth-century Ontario identifies factors that created—or foreclosed on—women lawyers’ professional success. The book’s final section explores how some current women lawyers, despite their increased numbers, must remain “quiet rebels” to succeed.
