Book A Revival of Hope in the Genuine Christ

Download or read book A Revival of Hope in the Genuine Christ written by Gary R. Goetz and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-12-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What in the world has gone wrong, and how will it be set right? America is in a moral and economic crisis. Political action by itself will not reverse this moral and economic decline. In times past, Christian revivals occurred before a crisis in American history, such as the Revolutionary and the Civil War. What were the characteristics of Christian revivals in past history? Can a national revival happen again, or are we too close to the end times? Prophetic events relate in practicality to revival in the church today because the believers hope lies in the future revelation of the genuine Christ. History is repeating itself. Neo-democracy, leading to an imperial form of the continuing Roman Empire, is the rising form of government today, and it will rule at the end of the age. Arguments will be given for the identity of the genuine Christ. The order of prophetic events will be delineated leading to the genuine new age, along with the events that follow, such as the rebellion of Satan and the Great White Throne Judgment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from May We Hope for a Great Revival? Within the last twelve months the Church of Christ in America has been visited with an extraordinary quickening. For once the embankments by which religious matter is shutout from the channels of secular intelligence were broken in; and even daily papers teemed with accounts of revivals and conversions. This great event has not been without its effect upon ourselves. Aspirations after a similar work of grace which existed before have been awakened afresh. On every hand good men may be heard asking one another, May we hope for a great revival? Some, it is true, not less desirous of the extension of Christ's kingdom than others, shrink from the idea of a revival, lest it Should be attended with extravagance, and bring forth none but ephemeral fruits. Some months ago two Ministers of the Gospel met on the top of an omnibus within a few miles of this city. Their con versation soon turned upon the remarkable news weekly coming from the religious bodies of America; and one of them ex pressed a hope that we might witness something similar amongst ourselves. The other replied, I have no faith in revivals; they do not leave any permanent results. Many years ago in the city of E I witnessed what appeared for the time to be a very powerful revival, but in a little while all the fruit of it had passed away. In the city of E re joined his friend. Several years ago, - was it about the time of the first visitation of the cholera? He learned that it was. And all the fruits disappeared? Completely, was the reply. It's strange, he said, that in a distant mission field I knew two Missionaries, both of whom had been con verted in that revival. Book excerpt: For years Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven. Award-winning author N. T. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright, who is one of today's premier Bible scholars, asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection. He provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus and shows how this became the cornerstone for the Christian community's hope in the bodily resurrection of all people at the end of the age. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth," revealing what happens to the dead until then and what will happen with the "second coming" of Jesus. For many, including many Christians, all this will come as a great surprise. Wright convincingly argues that what we believe about life after death directly affects what we believe about life before death. For if God intends to renew the whole creation—and if this has already begun in Jesus's resurrection—the church cannot stop at "saving souls" but must anticipate the eventual renewal by working for God's kingdom in the wider world, bringing healing and hope in the present life. Lively and accessible, this book will surprise and excite all who are interested in the meaning of life, not only after death but before it.

Book The Transforming Power of Revival

Download or read book The Transforming Power of Revival written by Sam Koopman and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why this book? Why the topic of Revival ? Some of us feel an increasing a hunger for something more than just "playing church" and going through the motions of the Christian life. We desire a genuine experience with Christ-for ourselves and for the church. The writer attempts addressing these longings, pointing the way to that deeper experience and warning of some pitfalls along the way. God is calling those who say they are followers of Jesus Christ to forsake the ways of the world and to recommit their lives to Him. It is time for a genuine revival and reformation in God's church. God cannot pour His Spirit on those who profess to be His people until they have experienced true repentance. True Repentance precedes Revival. Ellen G. White wrote, "The Spirit and power of God will be poured out upon His children" (True Revival, 19). But it is the responsibility of His children to seek this gift. According to Ellen White, "the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the church is looked forward to as in the future; but it is the privilege of the church to have it now. Seek for it, pray for it, believe for it. We must have it, and Heaven is waiting to bestow it" (Evangelism, 701). Being born again, justified, converted is the beginning. But what about growing up into Christ? What about that lifetime experience we sometimes call sanctification? Truly born-again Christians not only talk about Christ but live lives that testify that they are, in fact, followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit-filled life results not only in personal victory over sin but also in a fresh desire and ability to share the Christian life and hope with others. Filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, God's faithful ones will proclaim the final message that will prepare a people for the Lord's return. Satan will do everything in his power to stop it. He will try to convince us that there are shortcuts-easier ways to have the fellowship with God that leads to an empowered Christian life. He will introduce counterfeits for the power of the Spirit-counterfeits so deceptive that if God's people do not maintain a deep, living relationship with Him, based on the Word of God, they will be deceived. This book will, among other things, help the reader to distinguish between the true and the false. Indeed, the writer will seek to expose the fake, expell the illegitimate and usher in the genuine. The curtain of eternity is about to close, In these closing moments of earth's sinful history, surely God's Holy Spirit is ready to give us the power to finish our work for others and the work necessary for ourselves. Perhaps, you will be one through whom God will do something special? May this book help us experience revival and reformation that will prepare you for the latter rain and the soon return of our Lord.

Book Searching for the Pattern

Download or read book Searching for the Pattern written by John Mark Hicks and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MOVING FROM A "BLUEPRINT HERMENEUTIC" TO A THEOLOGICAL ONE In this book, John Mark Hicks tells the story of his own hermeneutical journey in reading the Bible. Lovingly and graciously, he describes his transition from a "blueprint hermeneutic" to a theological one. Some suggest that moving away from a patternistic command-example-and-necessary-inference approach for understanding what God requires leaves no other alternative, or at least none that both respects biblical authority and seeks to obey the gospel of Jesus the Messiah. In Searching for the Pattern, John Mark offers just such an alternative. His theological hermeneutic is deeply rooted in the way the Bible presents itself as a dramatic history of God's plan to redeem the world as well as his own experience of growing up among Churches of Christ. Seeing the gospel of Jesus as the center of the biblical drama reorients us to what provides our Christian identity and unites us as disciples of Jesus. ********** I pray this book is received with open hearts and open minds because I believe this work could go a long way in helping to bring unity to our fractured fellowship. --Wes McAdams, Preaching Minister for the church of Christ on McDermott Road, Plano, Texas This excellent book helps us understand the inner workings of Bible interpretation among Churches of Christ and provides a persuasive proposal for Bible interpretation that is built on the story of God we find in Scripture--a story into which God calls us. --James L. Gorman, Associate Professor of History, Johnson University Knoxville, Tennessee Finally, a trellis across the chasm! Throughout this book, Hicks does not compromise his high regard for both the church and the Scriptures; and through the grace found therein, he composes this urgent invitation back to the Table, where obedience cooperates with mystery, and we--estranged or conflicted--can find our place as one within God's magnificent story. --Tiffany Mangan Dahlman, Minister at Courtyard Church of Christ, Fayetteville, North Carolina John Mark Hicks is Professor of Theology at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. He has taught for thirty-eight years in schools associated with the Churches of Christ. He has published fifteen books and lectured in twenty countries and forty states and is married to Jennifer. They share six children and six grandchildren.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On August 14, 2011, when I was in Kandergrund in the Bernese Highlands in Switzerland an important connection became very clear to me. I recognized a spiritual cause for why we are losing part of our youth. I was very shocked. I thought of my children and grandchildren. Since then I have been intensively occupied with this subject. Now I believe that the same spiritual cause is behind many of our problems; specifically the personal problems, in the local churches and the world-wide church. It is the lack of the Holy Spirit. If this is the cause, then we should urgently address this issue. If the cause can be eliminated or considerably reduced, then many problems will become superfluous or will be resolved.
