Book Research on Exploratory Development of Nondestructive Methods for Crack Detection

Download or read book Research on Exploratory Development of Nondestructive Methods for Crack Detection written by Rudi Schroeer and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a research study devoted to exploratory development of a non-destructive method for crack detection are reported. The method investigated is based upon and Acoustic Impact Technique (AIT), which consists of the analysis of the vibrations in the test specimens produced by mechanical pulses. Specimens of 6061-T6 aluminum and D6ac steel were fatigue while their acoustic impact responses were measured in order to correlate their AIT responses with the beginning and growth of cracks. In several instances the beginning of subsurface defects that could only be verified by metallographic examination were indicated by the AIT measurements. The influence of metallurgical conditions upon the Acoustic Impact Technique was investigated. Specimens of 4340 steel and 2024 aluminum, having various metallurgical treatments, were AIT tested and their signal responses analyzed. Fatigue tests made on 1020 steel and 6Al-4V titanium specimens showed a common pattern in the function: Bending Fatigue Cycles vs AIT Signal Responses. (Author).

Book Research on Exploratory Development of Nondestructive Methods for Crack Detection

Download or read book Research on Exploratory Development of Nondestructive Methods for Crack Detection written by Rudi Schroeer and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a research study devoted to exploratory development of a nondestructive method for crack detection are reported in this document, covering the period from June 1967 to July 1968. The method investigated is based upon an acoustic impact technique, which consists of the analysis of the vibrations in the test specimens produced by mechanical pulses. Frequency shifts and damping times were the primary factors evaluated. Some theoretical concepts are discussed in this report.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by AIP Conference Proceedings / R. This book was released on 2005-04-28 with total page 1012 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All papers were peer reviewed. These proceedings provide the latest research and development papers in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and its applications to flaw detection, material properties, and structural reliability. The papers are prepared by a line-up of internationally known researchers and are reviewed by qualified scientists. Papers cover recent developments in essentially all measuring techniques (ultrasonic, electromagnetic, x-rays, thermal, acoustic emission, etc.) and their applications to flaw detection and structural reliability.

Book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization

Download or read book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization written by Chi-hau Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic methods have been very popular in nondestructive testing and characterization of materials. This book deals with both industrial ultrasound and medical ultrasound. The advantages of ultrasound include flexibility, low cost, in-line operation, and providing data in both signal and image formats for further analysis. The book devotes 11 chapters to ultrasonic methods. However, ultrasonic methods can be much less effective with some applications. So the book also has 14 chapters catering to other or advanced methods for nondestructive testing or material characterization. Topics like structural health monitoring, Terahertz methods, X-ray and thermography methods are presented. Besides different sensors for nondestructive testing, the book places much emphasis on signal/image processing and pattern recognition of the signals acquired.

  • Release : 1979-03
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 814 pages

Download or read book Acoustic Emission written by Thomas F. Drouillard and published by Springer. This book was released on 1979-03 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this bibliography is to list all of the known literature on acoustic emission in a single volume. The bibliography is intended to serve as a reference to the literature for those interested in the acoustic emission phenomenon, for those engaged in materials research, and for those interested in applying acoustic emission as a nonde structive testing method. It provides an invaluable reference to source materiaf for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in the subjects of acoustic emission, microseismic activity, and nondestructive testing. In addition, it provides a vaIuable desk-top reference for engineers and scientists in the fields of pressure vessel design and maintenance, stress analysis, mechanical engineering, welding engineering, nuclear engineering, metallurgy, and quality control. In compiling the bibliography every effort was made to search the literat ure for all the publications and obtain copies, index them, and publish a complete, com prehensive bibliography of the literature on acoustic emission. This bibliography is the most complete ever published. It includes essentially all of the literature on acoustic emission that has ever been published up through the first quarter of 1977. Publications listed are in the form of technical reports and memoranda, journal articles, technical presentations, proceedings, doctoral, master, and bachelor theses, patents, bound volumes, translations, and newspaper articles. Some references, however, are not technical articles, but consist of editorials or staff-written journal articles which are included because they represent apart of the literature.
