Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Record of the Bodurtha Family, 1645-1896 In sending forth this little volume, the writer seeks to preserve facts which have an interest presumably to the decendants of our common ancestor, Reice, and to those allied to the family by marriage. The one problem yet unsolved is the early home of this mysterious young man who was married in Springfield, Mass. in 1645. It may be by thus directing the attention of many to this question, new light may be thrown upon it. In compiling this book, the principal sources of information have been the original town records of Northampton, Springfield and West Springfield in Mass., and of Suffield in Conn. Church records, particularly those of West Springfield, have also afforded much help. For later dates we have depended upon correspondence with persons representing the different families. The plan of the book is simple, A chapter is devoted to each generation. The first page in the index gives the birth and descent of an individual, the second his marriage and family. The abbreviations will be easily understood: b. for born, d. for died, and unm. for unmarried. If mistakes have occurred, or if facts have been overlooked, the corrections may be included in an appendix by communicating with the writer.
