Book Geometry of Moduli Spaces and Representation Theory

Download or read book Geometry of Moduli Spaces and Representation Theory written by Roman Bezrukavnikov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on lectures given at the Graduate Summer School of the 2015 Park City Mathematics Institute program “Geometry of moduli spaces and representation theory”, and is devoted to several interrelated topics in algebraic geometry, topology of algebraic varieties, and representation theory. Geometric representation theory is a young but fast developing research area at the intersection of these subjects. An early profound achievement was the famous conjecture by Kazhdan–Lusztig about characters of highest weight modules over a complex semi-simple Lie algebra, and its subsequent proof by Beilinson-Bernstein and Brylinski-Kashiwara. Two remarkable features of this proof have inspired much of subsequent development: intricate algebraic data turned out to be encoded in topological invariants of singular geometric spaces, while proving this fact required deep general theorems from algebraic geometry. Another focus of the program was enumerative algebraic geometry. Recent progress showed the role of Lie theoretic structures in problems such as calculation of quantum cohomology, K-theory, etc. Although the motivation and technical background of these constructions is quite different from that of geometric Langlands duality, both theories deal with topological invariants of moduli spaces of maps from a target of complex dimension one. Thus they are at least heuristically related, while several recent works indicate possible strong technical connections. The main goal of this collection of notes is to provide young researchers and experts alike with an introduction to these areas of active research and promote interaction between the two related directions.

Book The Arcata Conference on Representations of Finite Groups Part 1

Download or read book The Arcata Conference on Representations of Finite Groups Part 1 written by Paul Fong and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1987 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in these proceedings of the 1986 Arcata Summer Institute bear witness to the extraordinarily vital and intense research in the representation theory of finite groups. The confluence of diverse mathematical disciplines has brought forth work of great scope and depth. Particularly striking is the influence of algebraic geometry and cohomology theory in the modular representation theory and the character theory of reductive groups over finite fields, and in the general modular representation theory of finite groups. The continuing developments in block theory and the general character theory of finite groups is noteworthy. The expository and research aspects of the Summer Institute are well represented by these papers.

Book Perverse Sheaves and Applications to Representation Theory

Download or read book Perverse Sheaves and Applications to Representation Theory written by Pramod N. Achar and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception around 1980, the theory of perverse sheaves has been a vital tool of fundamental importance in geometric representation theory. This book, which aims to make this theory accessible to students and researchers, is divided into two parts. The first six chapters give a comprehensive account of constructible and perverse sheaves on complex algebraic varieties, including such topics as Artin's vanishing theorem, smooth descent, and the nearby cycles functor. This part of the book also has a chapter on the equivariant derived category, and brief surveys of side topics including étale and ℓ-adic sheaves, D-modules, and algebraic stacks. The last four chapters of the book show how to put this machinery to work in the context of selected topics in geometric representation theory: Kazhdan-Lusztig theory; Springer theory; the geometric Satake equivalence; and canonical bases for quantum groups. Recent developments such as the p-canonical basis are also discussed. The book has more than 250 exercises, many of which focus on explicit calculations with concrete examples. It also features a 4-page “Quick Reference” that summarizes the most commonly used facts for computations, similar to a table of integrals in a calculus textbook.

Book Conjugacy Classes in Semisimple Algebraic Groups

Download or read book Conjugacy Classes in Semisimple Algebraic Groups written by James E. Humphreys and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a useful exposition of results on the structure of semisimple algebraic groups over an arbitrary algebraically closed field. After the fundamental work of Borel and Chevalley in the 1950s and 1960s, further results were obtained over the next thirty years on conjugacy classes and centralizers of elements of such groups.

Book Affine Flag Manifolds and Principal Bundles

Download or read book Affine Flag Manifolds and Principal Bundles written by Alexander Schmitt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-28 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Affine flag manifolds are infinite dimensional versions of familiar objects such as Graßmann varieties. The book features lecture notes, survey articles, and research notes - based on workshops held in Berlin, Essen, and Madrid - explaining the significance of these and related objects (such as double affine Hecke algebras and affine Springer fibers) in representation theory (e.g., the theory of symmetric polynomials), arithmetic geometry (e.g., the fundamental lemma in the Langlands program), and algebraic geometry (e.g., affine flag manifolds as parameter spaces for principal bundles). Novel aspects of the theory of principal bundles on algebraic varieties are also studied in the book.
