Book excerpt: "The following is an account of my continued life as an Uber and Lyft driver in the Twin Cities metro area, starting December of 2015 and stretching all the way through 2018. Rideshare services vary considerably from market to market, and at no point throughout this book did my market offer the 'pool' service. Finally, it should be noted this book is a sequel to Ubered : my life as a rideshare driver. If you have not read my first installment, I would strongly urge you to stop right here and read that first." --

Download or read book Digital Business Models written by Sébastien Ronteau and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-12-19 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A business model basically describes the way a company makes money. Yet, often we use digital services for free (e.g. Facebook, Google or WhatsApp) or for what seems to be a relatively minor price (e.g. Blablacar, Airbnb, and Amazon). Digital business models are different to traditional business models. Digital Business Models explains the key challenges and characteristics of the various business models that are used by digital businesses. These companies can be a source of inspiration for traditional bricks-and-mortar companies that aim to go digital and/or revamp their traditional business model. Most businesses rely on some form of digital technology for their marketing communication, customer relationship management, supply chain or distribution, yet digital transformation entails a complete reassessment of the way value is created and captured. Digital Business Models details the successful customer acquisition tactics and the development of business ecosystems by digital players. Using the relevant academic and managerial body of knowledge, the authors define the concepts, describe the various ways digital businesses create and capture value and propose some useful tools for managers to analyse a situation, formulate or implement a strategy. Different digital business types are evaluated, such as multisided platforms, digital merchants, subscription-based model, freemium, social media and sharing economy. Each chapter is illustrated with several examples and the appendix comprises four full-length case studies.
Download or read book Flexible Ridesharing written by Volker Handke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individual mobility is one of the most important needs of modern society and an important link between private, public and economic life. In contrast, transport also entails severe environmental and social burdens, foiling current efforts for sustainable development. As the main source of CO2 emissions, transport is a prominent driver for climate change, and individual car traffic is responsible for nearly a third of the total energy consumption. However, we have to consider that many commuters feel indeed very dependent on their car. Here, ridesharing promises to contribute to environmental protection, while still offering individual mobility. Although ridesharing options have been discussed since many years, internet and smartphones provide completeley new opportunities to find ridesharing partners today. Thus, this book deals with current efforts on implementing flexible internet- and phone-based ridesharing services. With a main focus on the users‘ perspective, their demands and acceptance limits, we aim to explore success factors for non-profit, but also commercial ridesharing concepts.
