The measurements cover the rapidity region of 2.0 to 3.2 and transverse momenta of 0.0 to 1.4 GeV/c. The results are compared with similar measurements of Si-Si interactions and the predictions of ARC and RQMD models.

Book excerpt: The first measurements of[phi] meson production in Au-Au collisions at AGS energies are presented via the decay to K[sup+] K[sup[minus]]. A measurement of the centrality dependence of the yield shows an increase similar to that seen for the K[sup[minus]] with a spectral shape consistent with a relativistic Breit-Wigner distribution within the statistical errors of the present data set. Future analysis using the full data set with 4 times the statistics will allow a more accurate determination of the yields, slopes and spectral shapes.

Book excerpt: Antiproton production in heavy ion collisions reflects subtle interplay between initial production and absorption by nucleons. Because the AGS energies (10--20 A·GeV/c) are close to the antiproton production threshold, antiproton may be sensitive to cooperative processes such as QGP and hadronic multi-step processes. On the other hand, antiproton has been proposed as a probe of baryon density due to large N{anti N} annihilation cross sections. Cascade models predict the maximum baryon density reaches about 10 times the normal nucleus density in central Au+Au collisions, where the strong antiproton absorption is expected. In this paper, the authors show systematic studies of antiproton production from p+A to Au+Au collisions.

Book excerpt: We propose to carry out a systematic and exclusive measurement of the energy and mass dependence of particle production, correlations and collective effects in Au+Au collisions. We wish to determine the highest compression achievable in nuclear matter and to study its properties. We shall search for evidence for an exotic Equation of State, that is, new physics such as Resonance Matter, Exotica, and QGP. We are also interested in signatures of critical phenomena in dilute nuclear matter. We propose to measure the four-momentum of light mass particles ([pi]{sup {plus_minus}}, K{sub s}°, K{sup {plus_minus}}, [Lambda], n, p, d, 3He, 4He, 6He, and the isotopes of Li and Be), projectile fragments from Z = 6 to Z = 79, and anti-proton production. The majority of the data will be acquired, on an event by event basis, from a state-of-the-art Time Projection Chamber (EOSTPC) built and used at LBL by the EOC collaboration. The TPC provides continuous tracking, almost 4[pi] acceptance and particle identification for the light mass particles.

Preliminary {ital m}{sub {perpendicular}} spectra are presented for {anti {ital p}}'s and {anti {Lambda}}'s. The {ital dn/dy} distribution for {anti {ital p}}'s is also presented. Based on the {anti {ital p}} and {anti {Lambda}} measurements, {anti {Lambda}}/{anti {ital p}} ratios are calculated in the rapidity range of 1.1-1.5.
