Book Mining and Mine Ventilation

Download or read book Mining and Mine Ventilation written by Joseph James Walsh and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mining and Mine Ventilation: A Practical Handbook on the Physics All the general features contained in the first edition which students and others interested in the physics and chemistry of mining and mine ventilation, commended, have been retained in this revised edition. The chapters dealing with gases and mine ventilation have undergone revision, and new material added. The chapter treating of the sampling and analysis of mine gases is new, and has been written to supply a need which has arisen in teaching gas analysis and also to meet the growing demand for a more thorough knowledge of this branch of mining. In this chapter, mine gases are treated in a more practical way than is the custom in ordinary books on the subject. The properties of gases and the changes which affect their composition, together with the products of the combustion of gases, are clearly defined. The author appreciates the cordial reception given the first edition of his book and trusts the revised edition will meet with favor and speedily find a larger field of usefulness. Book Mine Drainage

Download or read book Mine Drainage written by Stephen Michell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mine Drainage: Being a Complete and Practical Treatise on Direct-Acting Underground Steam Pumping Machinery To these younger products of the engineer's skill, the surface engine may relegate much of its work, or it may engage them as auxiliaries, for which their much greater lightness of structure, their ready portability, and the celerity with which they may be set to work, make them so well adapted. Many admirable papers on underground pumping engines have appeared in the journals and transactions of the engi neering societies from time to time, but in this scattered state they are obviously only accessible to a very limited number of persons. Moreover, the high price of some of the journals containing these papers, and the trouble and perhaps impossibility of bringing together such of these isolated papers as might be required, would prevent the general reader availing himself of them. Many of these papers are the production of promoters of the engines to which they refer. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Historical Painting Techniques Materials and Studio Practice

Download or read book Historical Painting Techniques Materials and Studio Practice written by Arie Wallert and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1995-08-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the fields of conservation, art history, and museum curating, this volume contains the principal papers from an international symposium titled "Historical Painting Techniques, Materials, and Studio Practice" at the University of Leiden in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from June 26 to 29, 1995. The symposium—designed for art historians, conservators, conservation scientists, and museum curators worldwide—was organized by the Department of Art History at the University of Leiden and the Art History Department of the Central Research Laboratory for Objects of Art and Science in Amsterdam. Twenty-five contributors representing museums and conservation institutions throughout the world provide recent research on historical painting techniques, including wall painting and polychrome sculpture. Topics cover the latest art historical research and scientific analyses of original techniques and materials, as well as historical sources, such as medieval treatises and descriptions of painting techniques in historical literature. Chapters include the painting methods of Rembrandt and Vermeer, Dutch 17th-century landscape painting, wall paintings in English churches, Chinese paintings on paper and canvas, and Tibetan thangkas. Color plates and black-and-white photographs illustrate works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Book Democracy and Education

Download or read book Democracy and Education written by John Dewey and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1916 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: . Renewal of Life by Transmission. The most notable distinction between living and inanimate things is that the former maintain themselves by renewal. A stone when struck resists. If its resistance is greater than the force of the blow struck, it remains outwardly unchanged. Otherwise, it is shattered into smaller bits. Never does the stone attempt to react in such a way that it may maintain itself against the blow, much less so as to render the blow a contributing factor to its own continued action. While the living thing may easily be crushed by superior force, it none the less tries to turn the energies which act upon it into means of its own further existence. If it cannot do so, it does not just split into smaller pieces (at least in the higher forms of life), but loses its identity as a living thing. As long as it endures, it struggles to use surrounding energies in its own behalf. It uses light, air, moisture, and the material of soil. To say that it uses them is to say that it turns them into means of its own conservation. As long as it is growing, the energy it expends in thus turning the environment to account is more than compensated for by the return it gets: it grows. Understanding the word "control" in this sense, it may be said that a living being is one that subjugates and controls for its own continued activity the energies that would otherwise use it up. Life is a self-renewing process through action upon the environment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of The Fingerprint Sourcebook originated during a meeting in April 2002. Individuals representing the fingerprint, academic, and scientific communities met in Chicago, Illinois, for a day and a half to discuss the state of fingerprint identification with a view toward the challenges raised by Daubert issues. The meeting was a joint project between the International Association for Identification (IAI) and West Virginia University (WVU). One recommendation that came out of that meeting was a suggestion to create a sourcebook for friction ridge examiners, that is, a single source of researched information regarding the subject. This sourcebook would provide educational, training, and research information for the international scientific community.

Download or read book Mein Kampf written by Adolf Hitler and published by ببلومانيا للنشر والتوزيع. This book was released on 2024-02-26 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Madman, tyrant, animal—history has given Adolf Hitler many names. In Mein Kampf (My Struggle), often called the Nazi bible, Hitler describes his life, frustrations, ideals, and dreams. Born to an impoverished couple in a small town in Austria, the young Adolf grew up with the fervent desire to become a painter. The death of his parents and outright rejection from art schools in Vienna forced him into underpaid work as a laborer. During the First World War, Hitler served in the infantry and was decorated for bravery. After the war, he became actively involved with socialist political groups and quickly rose to power, establishing himself as Chairman of the National Socialist German Worker's party. In 1924, Hitler led a coalition of nationalist groups in a bid to overthrow the Bavarian government in Munich. The infamous Munich "Beer-hall putsch" was unsuccessful, and Hitler was arrested. During the nine months he was in prison, an embittered and frustrated Hitler dictated a personal manifesto to his loyal follower Rudolph Hess. He vented his sentiments against communism and the Jewish people in this document, which was to become Mein Kampf, the controversial book that is seen as the blue-print for Hitler's political and military campaign. In Mein Kampf, Hitler describes his strategy for rebuilding Germany and conquering Europe. It is a glimpse into the mind of a man who destabilized world peace and pursued the genocide now known as the Holocaust.
