Download or read book A Pound of Prevention written by Alfred Nkut and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health promotion still remains the best option to foster good health, especially given the fact that so many health problems can lead to permanent damage. There has to be a balance between our mind, body and soul. For optimum health, those three parts must be in harmony. The essence of this book is to show you how to become an instrument of positive influence for living a happier, healthier life. Most of what is involved in staying healthy is doing the basic things that are common knowledge to most people. But like all else, you make the difference by not only knowing what to do, but putting into practice. Our happiness is determined by the quality of our thoughts, learning how to arrange our mind and detoxify it from toxic or negative emotions. Follow Lucky Harry's story and how he learned to apply the secrets to healthy living. Lucky Harry's success came because he became imaginative, and made the move to choose good habits that will help him achieve healthy living. His cooperation was necessary. He turned the corner, and achieved excellent health. Something he always thought of as just a dream.

Book A Pound of Prevention for a Healthier Life

Download or read book A Pound of Prevention for a Healthier Life written by Harold I. Zeliger and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Pound of Prevention for a Healthier Life shows the connection between oxidative stress and the onset of virtually all disease and discusses the causes of oxidative stress induced disease and ways to prevent it. The book includes a unique questionnaire for predicting disease onset in seemingly healthy people, and shows how steps taken to prevent any one disease may prevent many other unrelated diseases. Dr. Harold I. Zeliger, a chemical toxicologist who has been researching the causes of non-communicable diseases for more than 40 years, demonstrates how elevated oxidative stress is responsible for attacks on virtually all body organs and systems and how it triggers the onset of numerous diseases, including ADHD, autism, heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer?s disease, Parkinson?s disease, cancer and numerous others. The many sources of oxidative stress include not only exposures to toxic chemicals such as pesticides, air pollutants, PCBs and organic solvents, but also to radiation, tobacco smoke, eating some foods, pharmaceutical drug use, illnesses a person already has, emotional stress and others. Zeliger?s research shows how elevated oxidative stress need not come from a single source, but can come from multiple sources, and that it is total oxidative stress, no matter what the source or sources, that causes disease. The Oxidative Stress Index, which can be individually arrived at from the questionnaire in the book, allows the reader to determine his or her oxidative stress level, which sources are responsible for it, and what actions can be taken to reduce it and lower the likelihood of disease onset.

Book Just an Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Pound of Cure

Download or read book Just an Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Pound of Cure written by James L. D'Adamo, Dr. and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2010-04-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. James D’Adamo burst onto the world of natural medicine in the 1970s with his revolutionary discovery of, and approach to, healing based on a person’s blood type. Written in the infancy of America’s modern natural-healing movement, his first book, One Man’s Food . . . is someone else’s poison, detailed his unique, individual treatment method that correlated a person’s type of blood with diet, exercise, and spiritual practice. Just An Ounce of Prevention . . . Is Worth a Pound of Cure comes almost 30 years later, as people around the world have increasingly awakened to the efficacy of natural remedies . . . and at a time when the American health-care system is increasingly failing the public. In this fascinating book, Dr. D’Adamo exhorts us to take responsibility for our own health and prevent chronic degenerative diseases using his newest discoveries, which has given him the opportunity to treat more than 50,000 patients. He explains which foods and exercises are right for each of us, what assets and liabilities we’re born with, and how our minds can work to better process information. This book contains Dr. D’Adamo’s most up-to-date and comprehensive teachings; and includes recipes, exercise regimens, and a panoply of natural therapies he recommends to the patients at his institute. An Ounce of Prevention is the consummate statement on natural healing from this generation’s most original naturopath. As Dr. D’Adamo writes: "We are all here for a purpose, and we can only aspire to our physical and spiritual fulfillment when the body is healthy and the mind clear. Blood types are a Truth of Nature and, if followed, will provide a person with the physical and spiritual health that Nature has intended for them."

Book Defining Prevention Science

Download or read book Defining Prevention Science written by Zili Sloboda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whoever coined the adage "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" could not have known how important this adage would become. The challenge of altering the health trajectories of poor lifestyle decisions for such behaviors as smoking, drinking and using illicit drugs, violence, dropping out of school, engagement in risky sexual behaviors and crime through prevention research has led to a new discipline, prevention science. Defining Prevention Science covers this emerging field of science: its goals, its conceptual and theoretical foundations, its methods and especially its utility. Not content to simply differentiate the field from its close allies: epidemiology, psychology, neuroscience, sociology, economics, the text explains how these many disciplines enhance each other at both research and intervention levels and how prevention science draws on these biological, behavioral and social sciences to create an innovative knowledge base that has provided cost-effective, evidence-based prevention interventions and policies. To this end, familiar developmental benchmarks are recast in prevention/health promotion context, from the crucial importance of adolescence in encountering and deterring high-risk behaviors to the risks and resiliencies of single-mother families. An international group of contributors offers current findings, up-to-date methods for effective evidence-based interventions and improvements in research technologies in these key areas: Physical, cognitive and emotional vulnerability across the life course. The roles of developmental influences in prevention. Intervention development, delivery and implementation. Bringing the intervention approach to research design. New directions in analytic methods. Cost analysis and policy implications. Advances in Prevention Science: Defining Prevention Science aims to inspire further refinements in the field and encourage communication among researchers in its own and related disciplines, including public health, epidemiology, psychology, and criminology. This is the first volume in the series, Advances in Prevention Science, that provides the framework for other volume that will focus on such issues as: Prevention Science in School Settings: Complex Relationships and Processes; Preventing Crime and Violence and The Prevention of Substance Use.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most environmental statutes passed since 1970 have endorsed a pragmatic or 'precautionary' principle under which the existence of a significant risk is enough to trigger regulation. At the same time, targets of such regulation have often argued on grounds of inefficiency that the associated costs outweigh any potential benefits. In this work, Jason Johnston unpacks and critiques the legal, economic, and scientific basis for precautionary climate policies pursued in the United States and in doing so sheds light on why the global warming policy debate has become increasingly bitter and disconnected from both climate science and economics. Johnston analyzes the most influential international climate science assessment organizations, the US electric power industry, and land management and renewable energy policies. Bridging sound economics and climate science, this pathbreaking book shows how the United States can efficiently adapt to a changing climate while radically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Book excerpt: A Pound of Cure was written by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon, who has identified a style of eating that can bring about the same metabolic changes seen after gastric bypass surgery. The shifts in your metabolism that block hunger and prevent weight loss plateaus after surgery can be obtained by focusing your diet on nutrient rich foods like fruits and vegetables. The style of eating outlined shows you how to use food to control hunger, eliminate cravings and prevent a slow down in your metabolism that plagues typical starvation diets.A Pound of Cure is a step by step guide that shows you how to change your style of eating sensibly, over time. Each of the 12 changes, or "stations" outlined in the program brings you closer to gaining control over the hunger and food cravings that have sabotaged your previous efforts. It is designed to be a lifelong change and nothing less and does not buy into the madness of starvation or fad diets. If you are tired of the fad diets and the commercial diet industry that peddles artificial, synthetic diet foods as healthy choices, the Pound of Cure plan will show you how to eat sensibly, control your hunger and lose the weight for the rest of your life.
