Book A Photographic Investigation of Bubble Nucleation from Artificial Cavities

Download or read book A Photographic Investigation of Bubble Nucleation from Artificial Cavities written by John Christian Eller and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High speed motion pictures of bubble nucleation from glass capillaries were obtained. The fluids used were: distilled water, water with wetting agent, water with sucrose, and ethanol. Capillaries of cylindrical, conical, and reentrant geometries were used with inner diameters ranging from .0182 to .0381 inches. The penetration of the liquid-vapor interface into a cavity after bubble departure appeared to be inertia controlled. Cavity interior geometry and cleanliness had a direct effect upon the liquid-vapor interface penetration distance. The depth of penetration of the interface increased as cavity size increased. Viscosity reduced the interface penetration. Bubble growth curves were obtained for a typical bubble in each fluid. Bubble departure diameter appeared to be independent of cavity geometry but increased as cavity size increased. Viscosity retarded bubble growth during the initial stages of growth. (Author).

Book A Photographic Investigation of Bubble Nucleation Characteristics

Download or read book A Photographic Investigation of Bubble Nucleation Characteristics written by Roger Lee Sowersby and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of bubble nucleation, growth, and departure during nucleate boiling were investigated. The liquid-vapor interface motion was analyzed using high speed motion picture photography. The fluids used were: distilled water, water with wetting agent, water with sucrose, ethanol, and freon-11. Cylindrical, conical, and reentrant cavity geometries were employed in addition to J, L, and I shaped capillaries. Cavity inner diameters were fixed at 0.085 centimeters and cavity depth ranged from 0.230 to 0.703 centimeters. Consistent results were obtained for geometrically similar cavities and for the same cavity at different occasions. A thin liquid film was observed on the cavity inner wall which was directly related to cavity nucleation stability. The liquid-vapor interface penetration was shown to be dependent upon cavity geometry and fluid properties. Frequency, but not penetration, was affected by heat flux and superheat. (Author).

Book Bubble Nucleation from Heated Glass Cavities

Download or read book Bubble Nucleation from Heated Glass Cavities written by Joel Richard Schapira and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The behavior of bubbles nucleating from a glass cavity was studied using high speed photography. Water and ethanol were used with varying amounts of cavity heat at several subatomospheric pressures. Bubble growth, departure diameter, and frequency were related to the fluid used, cavity heat, operating pressure and local convection currents. At low pressures, the departure diameter was studied for dynamic effects. The frequency-departure diameter product was observed for increasing bubble frequency.
