Book We Just Averaged over Two Trillion Cross Country Growth Regressions

Download or read book We Just Averaged over Two Trillion Cross Country Growth Regressions written by Mr.Eduardo Ley and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1999-07-01 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the issue of model uncertainty in cross-country growth regressions using Bayesian model averaging (BMA). We find that the posterior probability is distributed among many models, suggesting the superiority of BMA over any single model. Out-of-sample predictive results support that claim. In contrast with Levine and Renelt (1992), our results broadly support the more “optimistic” conclusion of Sala-i-Martin (1997b), namely, that some variables are important regressors for explaining cross-country growth patterns. However, the variables we identify as most useful for growth regression differ substantially from Sala-i-Martin’s results.

Book Focus on Economic Growth and Productivity

Download or read book Focus on Economic Growth and Productivity written by L. A. Finley and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By 'economic growth' economists mean, in the first place, annual increases in the nation's total output of goods and services -- its national product. Maintaining rapid economic growth depends increasingly on productivity gains, particularly in the service sector. Economic growth and the productivity are impacted by individual enterprises, industrial sectors and the wider economy. The standard of living of a country is profoundly effected by economic growth and productivity. One of the key questions within the debate on economic growth and productivity is the effect of information technology on the system. This new book presents leading edge research on this exciting topic.

Book Transitional Dynamics and Economic Growth in Developing Countries

Download or read book Transitional Dynamics and Economic Growth in Developing Countries written by Thomas Steger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four stylised facts of aggregate economic growth are set up initially. The growth process is interpreted to represent transitional dynamics rather than balanced-growth equilibria. Against this background, the fundamental importance of subsistence consumption is comprehensively analysed. Subsequently, the meaning of the productive-consumption hypothesis for the intertemporal consumption trade-off and the growth process is investigated. Finally, the process of growth is analysed empirically by means of cross-sectional conditional convergence regressions with endogenous control variables.
