Book A Technique for Assessing the Durability of Structural Adhesives

Download or read book A Technique for Assessing the Durability of Structural Adhesives written by Raymond F. Wegman and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method for inexpensively evaluating the durability of a large number of adhesives was developed and evaluated. This test method enables an investigator to simultaneously evaluate many adhesive-adherend variations and to estimate the durability of the variations under conditions of load, temperature, and humidity. The method will save time and money in the screening process used to select the best adhesives and adherend surface treatments for a particular application. The method involves determining the residual strength after the bonded joints are immersed in 60 C water for prescribed periods of time. Data are presented for twelve structural adhesives which are 121 C (250 F) curing systems. The adherends used were 2024T3 aluminum, either acid-dichromate (FPL) etched or anodized, 6 Al-4V titanium and commercially pure (CP) titanium, both phosphate-fluoride etched. (Author).

Book Testing Adhesive Joints

Download or read book Testing Adhesive Joints written by Lucas F.M. da Silva and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-10-22 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joining techniques such as welding, brazing, riveting and screwing are used by industry all over the world on a daily basis. A further method of joining has also proven to be highly successful: adhesive bonding. Adhesive bonding technology has an extremely broad range of applications. And it is difficult to imagine a product - in the home, in industry, in transportation, or anywhere else for that matter - that does not use adhesives or sealants in some manner. The book focuses on the methodology used for fabricating and testing adhesive and bonded joint specimens. The text covers a wide range of test methods that are used in the field of adhesives, providing vital information for dealing with the range of adhesive properties that are of interest to the adhesive community. With contributions from many experts in the field, the entire breadth of industrial laboratory examples, utilizing different best practice techniques are discussed. The core concept of the book is to provide essential information vital for producing and characterizing adhesives and adhesively bonded joints.

Book Durability Lifetime Predictions Adhesively Bonded Structures

Download or read book Durability Lifetime Predictions Adhesively Bonded Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief review of past and current methods for life time or durability assessment of engineering structures is given. It is noted that adhesively bonded structures exhibit all the features that compromise the durability of metals and polymers plus additional features related to the interface between the adhesive and the adherend. A discussion of current techniques on adhesives is given which includes moisture diffusion, temperature, and other effects. It is suggested that the critical issue in durability predictions for adhesion science is the development of methods of measuring the properties of the various components in an adhesive joint. A technique based upon a new beam test for adhesion is outlined together with a new digital image correlation technique for measuring strain at the micro scale. The integration of these elements into a research technique to address time-dependent properties in situ are discussed. Keywords: Adhesives, Durability, Life Predictions, Life Cycle, Life Expectancy.
