Download or read book The Ultimate Arena written by Dan E. Ireland and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel is a cautionary tale of life and death in the G. W. Bush era. It's a true story of a brave young man who believed in putting his life on the line to defend his country. He saw himself as a defender. He was, after all, an all-pro defensive back for the Arizona Cardinals. He gave up a multimillion-dollar career and a beautiful new wife to deal with Osama bin Laden after the attacks of 9/11. Because I didn't ask for or receive permission from his family to write this book, it should be considered historical fiction, but anyone who has seen the outstanding documentary The Tillman Story by Amir Bar-Lev will know who it is about. It's a tragic story of an American gladiator sacrificed by his own government. It is a story that should never be forgotten.
Download or read book Authentic Christianity and the Life of Freedom written by Michael A. Milton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-05-23 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The churches of Galatia were occupied by legalism. They needed to be liberated. Bravely taking on false teachers like the allied forces took on the Nazis in the hedgerows, Paul assaults the religion of works and advances the gospel of freedom. Paul's letter to all of the churches in Galatia is an amazing marshaling forward of the powerful gospel truth in the strongest words possible in order to free the Galatians from the headlong course they were on--a course that was leading them back into bondage. In 'Authentic Christianity and the Life of Freedom', Michael Milton leads the reader through a study of the book of Galatians in order to locate the timeless truths that enable the believer to live a life of freedom in Christ and not be taken captive by false teachers. Retaining the live feel of an actual worship service at First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Tennessee, where these messages were first delivered, the reader can expect an appealing mixture of faithful Bible exposition, alert concern for the times in which we live, and heartfelt pastoral application to the lives of real people.

Download or read book Elizabeth s Coal Camp Stories written by Carrie D. Franklin Heck and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It takes on a setting of a coal camp; somewhere in West Virginia during the great depression days. Some of the book is fictitious. Most of the characters were names I had remembered as a child; whether they be real in character or of a fictitious nature, I used them out of due love for the families of yesteryears. Judge Henry S. Cato is a real character in this novel. I had cared for him as his private duty nurse for a period of five years. I feel like I got to know him as a nurse and as a special person. His life touched mine in a many ways, as well as the lives of others.
Download or read book Spy One written by Kenneth C. Kent and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agent Jim Huggins is embroiled in the largest case of his career. He was recruited shortly after graduating from Illinois. After a short stint with the Bureau the government set up a new agency that would concentrate on International Intelligence. Since he had a passion for intelligence he was offered a job within the new agency. He was assigned to the midwest office based in Chicago. What follows is an excerpt from the story. The school bus stopped at the corner, the tall long haired blonde girl with designer cut jeans got on board and waved at the other students on the bus and said hello to the driver. Today I noticed it was not the same driver that drove the bus for the past three weeks. It was a young woman that appeared to be in her middle thirties with dark brown hair cropped short in a bob, she was not wearing a wedding band but she had a Bluetooth or something stuck in her left ear so she could communicate with whoever she was talking to. She acknowledged the blonde girl, looked at her student ID and checked her log sheet to make sure she was supposed to be on this bus. Then the bus proceeded down the street until it got to the next corner where it stopped to pick up other students. As for me I could continue my surveillance. The blonde girl named Elisia is the daughter of the man I am following. He is believed to be a spy from an eastern European country that was once part of the Soviet Union. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union most of the satellite countries have their own networks. Why he is under surveillance is not my concern, my boss Rodger Allen McCray Field Supervisor Chicago office of international intelligence (I.I.A.) issued the order. Keep an eye on Karl Buranski record his every move and keep an eye on his family to see who they are in contact with. Download or read book Hollywood Exiles in Europe written by Rebecca Prime and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebecca Prime documents the untold story of the American directors, screenwriters, and actors who exiled themselves to Europe as a result of the Hollywood blacklist. During the 1950s and 1960s, these Hollywood émigrés directed, wrote, or starred in almost one hundred European productions, their contributions ranging from crime film masterpieces like Du rififi chez les hommes (1955, Jules Dassin, director) to international blockbusters like The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957, Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson, screenwriters) and acclaimed art films like The Servant (1963, Joseph Losey, director). At once a lively portrait of a lesser-known American “lost generation” and an examination of an important transitional moment in European cinema, the book offers a compelling argument for the significance of the blacklisted émigrés to our understanding of postwar American and European cinema and Cold War relations. Prime provides detailed accounts of the production and reception of their European films that clarify the ambivalence with which Hollywood was regarded within postwar European culture. Drawing upon extensive archival research, including previously classified material, Hollywood Exiles in Europe suggests the need to rethink our understanding of the Hollywood blacklist as a purely domestic phenomenon. By shedding new light on European cinema’s changing relationship with Hollywood, the book illuminates the postwar shift from national to transnational cinema.

Download or read book Great Lakes Journey written by William Ashworth and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 2003-07-09 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Great Lakes Journey is a follow-up to William Ashworth's earlier book The Late, Great Lakes, published in 1986. Fifteen years after his first trip, Ashworth journeys to many of the same places and talks to many of the same people to examine the changes that have taken place along the Great Lakes since the 1980s. Through personal observation, research, and numerous interviews with scientists, activists, and government agencies, Ashworth creates a detailed picture of the status of the Great Lakes at the end of the twentieth century. Among the most prominent changes he finds are the arrival of the zebra mussel and other exotic species, the rise and fall of the RAP process for pollution cleanup, a growing public mistrust of government action, a substantial loss of habitat and biodiversity, and an explosion of urban sprawl along the shores of the Lakes. Great Lakes Journey is a welcome update on the latest issues affecting the Great Lakes region.
