Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Narrative of the Conversion and Death of Count Struensee: Formerly Prime Minister of Denmark The volume of which the following pages are a reprint, is rarely to be met with; it was very early in youth placed in my hands by my venerable father; and I have, indeed, scarcely found any one who is at all acquainted with its existence, excepting those to whom I have myself recommended it. Whatever, therefore, its merits may be, it may fairly be looked upon almost in the light of a new publication. The book contains a narrative of the conversion of the Danish Count Struensee from Scepticism to Christianity; which was at last happily effected through the agency of Dr. Munter, minister of one of the German Churches in Copenhagen, whom the government had sent to attend the Count during his imprisonment. In Struensee Dr. Munter had no ordinary powers to contend with; by his own talents alone he had raised himself from a comparatively humble situation, almost to despotic power in the Danish Court.
