Download or read book Arethuse 1 2 2015 written by and published by Società Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers presented in this issue are those that the Scientific Committee has assessed as being particularly of merit. They relate to three areas, Strategic Management, Economics and Statistics, and Public Finance. These areas have not only been the subject of study of researchers who adhere to the international Association, Arethuse, but especially in recent years provide a useful opportunity for whoever operates in European countries (university researchers, spin-off, managers, entrepreneurs, local associations, public authorities, governmental and non- governmental financial institutions etc.) to enrich their knowledge. In this year with the Expo taking place in Italy, the issues concerning the quality and development of the people and territory have led to scientific fields of study and discussions that are of particular global relevance. The Universal Exposition of Milan places special emphasis on sustainable development and the new sense of globalization of economic and social phenomena. A great deal of research, the results of which are presented in this issue, provide useful contributions. They highlight the metrics to be used to promote the development of the territory; they study the impact of information technology in the tourism sector; they present studies on the most appropriate reconfiguration of relationships with retailers and the reconfiguration of supply chains; finally, special attention is paid to the redesign of management techniques and of inter- enterprise relations, in order to facilitate the growth of SMEs and the environment in which they are rooted.
Download or read book Innovation District Planning written by Tan Yigitcanlar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-03-25 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to fill the knowledge gap on how to plan, develop and manage innovation districts that are competitive in terms of both productivity and quality of living, justifying the massive investment put into place and at the same time doing both in a delicate and harmonious way. There is a need for smart urban land use that is wired with both hard infrastructures (e.g., telecommunication and transport) and soft infrastructures (e.g., diversity and tolerance). The reader learns this knowledge through conceptual expansions for key insights, frameworks for potential and performance assessment and best practices for global innovation districts. The authors begin innovation district planning with the role and effectiveness of planning a branding in the development of innovation districts. The next key topic of place making is recognised as a key strategy for supporting knowledge generation and innovation activities in the contemporary innovation districts. Another important topic is place quality where the reader learns to identify and classify indicators of place quality by studying global innovation districts best practices. The reader also expands their understanding on the classification of innovation districts based on their key characteristics through a methodological approach. The book concludes with district smartness studied through the socio-cultural role played by anchor universities in facilitating place making in innovation districts. Smart campuses, enabled by digital transformation opportunities in higher education, are seen as a miniature replica of smart cities and serve as living labs for smart technology. The book serves as a repository for scholars, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students as it communicates the complex innovation district phenomenon in an easy-to-digest form by providing both the big picture view and specifics of each component of that view.
Download or read book Modeling of a logistics network for wood flows from by products and cascade utilization written by Mohammad Sadegh Taskhiri and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2016-05-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waste Wood and wood by-products have the potential to become attractive alternative sources of raw materials. Their efficient use is important due to the rising demand and limited supply of forest wood. Cascade utilization is gaining interest as a strategy to bridge the gap between rising wood demand and fresh wood availability. However, the economic and environmental impacts of a cascading system for wood-based products are not fully known. In this work, an investigation is conducted to determine the consequences of cascade utilization for the economic and environmental performance of logistics networks for wood flows. Two case studies in Lower Saxony consider five wood products, including medium density fiber (MDF), oriented strand board (OSB), particleboard, coated paper, and wood pellets. In the first case study, an approach for decision support is developed that consists of a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model. In the first case study, the MILP model is used for minimizing the costs of the logistics network for three scenarios. Then the UMBERTO software is applied to determine the quantity of CO2e of the minimized logistics network. In the second case study, the MILP model is enhanced using two objective functions, as cost and global warming potential (GWP) are considered simultaneously. In this case study, it is observed that environmental parameters such as CO2 emissions can also be implemented in the MILP. The utilization of a multi-objective optimization model brings new perspectives (the trade-off between two contradictory objective functions, for instance) in comparison to the first case study, in which CO2 is calculated as an off-line step after logistics costs are minimized.
Download or read book A Weighted Graph Optimization Approach for Automatic Location of Forest Road Networks written by Jürg Andreas Stückelberger and published by vdf Hochschulverlag AG. This book was released on 2008 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a large majority of regions where forestry activities occur, roads are the backbone of their efficient management. Automatic planning of a road network is an ongoing, challenging task. Advances have been aided by the increased availability and accuracy of digital terrain models, greater computing power, and improvements in optimization techniques. Defining the objectives and deriving adequate objective functions are crucial steps in guiding the solution toward an ideal network, especially when individual goals may conflict. For example, whereas the conservationist might prefer that a layout minimizes any detrimental impacts on the environment, the forest landowner may favor cost-minimal roads while the forest operator would like to have a dense network in order to reduce transportation costs. This thesis introduces models for three objective functions: - forest road construction and maintenance costs, - negative ecological effects from such roads, - the suitability, or attractiveness, of a network for cable-yarding.Case studies in mountainous project areas illustrate the trade-offs among these conflicting goals, and demonstrate how to optimize different objectives in order to make an optimal decision overall.

Download or read book Multi objective Forest Planning written by Timo Pukkala and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the scientific methods devised for forest planning support timber production ignoring the existence of forest functions other than wood production. Fortunately, the realisation that the forest planning methods available today do not correspond to the needs of today's forestry has activated forest researchers to develop and adopt new methodologies and approaches, which are specifically aimed at multi-objective situations. This book is about the quantitative approach to multi-objective forest planning. The emphasis is on topics that are rather new and not yet systematically applied in forest planning practice. The topics and methodologies discussed in this book include: measurement of preferences, multiple criteria decision analysis, use of GIS to support multi-objective forest management, heuristic optimization, spatial optimisation, and the measurement of non-wood forest outputs. By reading the book, a planning specialist, student or a researcher will get an insight into some of the current developments in forest planning research.
