Book A Missionary s Life in Nyasaland Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Missionary s Life in Nyasaland Classic Reprint written by George Herbert Wilson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Missionary's Life in Nyasaland I should like to add that, though I have written entirely about my own Mission and Diocese, it is not because I selfishly disregard the interests of other Missions. I am trying to present a picture of a small part of the Mission field, well aware how small it is, because I happen to know about it. I do most earnestly sympathize with every effort to spread abroad the knowledge of the love of God in Christ in every land and in every race. Book Lives of Missionaries

Download or read book Lives of Missionaries written by Hans Egede and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lives of Missionaries: Greenland "One man soweth, and another reapeth." Amongst the servants of Christ to whom it has been appointed to sow the seed but not to reap the harvest, few perhaps, in modem times, have had their faith and hope so severely tried as Hans Egede, the father of Greenland Missions. Hans (or John) Egede was born in Norway, in the year 1686. The simple, hardy habits which characterize the domestic life of the Norwegians early accustom the young to join in the occupations and sports of their elders, both on land and water. But the toils and pastimes in which Egede was allowed to participate did not lessen his fondness for reading: he was eager to acquire knowledge, and the long winter nights of the north afforded him abundant leisure for the pursuit of his favourite studies. Book A Young Missionary

Download or read book A Young Missionary written by Mrs. Hannah Rasmussen and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Young Missionary: Or the Life of Bertha Rasmussen When I felt that God wanted me to write a short sketch of my daughter's life, it was done with much prayer, and with the desire that it might go out to bless the world, and with the expectation that it might stir up its readers to a closer walk with God, and if possible roll the burden of a lost world on young soldiers, and lead them to give their lives for the cause that was on the heart of our dear departed. If this is accomplished, my labors will be well rccompensed. Introduction Our acquaintance with Bertha Rasmussen, the subject of this sketch, began when she was about eleven years of age, through correspondence, in the interest of the famine children of India. A missionary spirit pervaded her letters, indicating that the spirit of God was moving on the heart of the child in behalf of the heathen. Later, at about fourteen years of age, Bertha came with her mother and brother to the Vanguard Missionary Training Home, St. Louis, Mo., and became an efficient typesetter, spending part of her time in school. She was a lovely Christian character and gave promise of great usefulness for God. A year later she went to McGee Holiness College, College Mound, Mo., and went home to glory from there. Her beautiful life can never cease to bear fruit unto God. We trust this "Memoir" will be the means of bringing many to Jesus. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memoirs of the Life of the Rev. John Williams, Missionary to Polynesia IT is with sincere satisfaction that the author is at length enabled to present to the public the following memoir. Had the long delay which has occurred in its appearance resulted from his own negligence, the pain which he has suffered in consequence would have been a severe, if not a sufficient punishment. But of such a charge he is perfectly guiltless. For his own relief, and for the success of his undertaking, he was most anxious that the volume should have been completed at a much earlier period; but as he was far more solicitous that it should not be published in an unfinished state, he was induced to await, in the first instance, the arrival of documents from the South Sea Islands, and subsequently, the return of Mrs. Williams to this country; and the issue has satisfied him, that in resisting the strong temptation to go to press, he did well. Thus he has been enabled to enrich some parts of his volume, to complete others, and accurately to trace his admirable friend through almost every interesting scene of his diversified and instructive history. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life of William Ellis: Missionary to the South Seas and to Madagascar By the present generation the name of William Ellis is associated almost exclusively with Madagascar, and many will, perhaps, expect a history of his life to he occupied chiefly with details of mission work in that country, forgetting that it was not till he had attained his sixtieth year that he had any personal connection whatever with the Malagasy. For many years previously he had been actively engaged in other fields of labour. From 1816, when he first entered on his missionary career, till 1825, he took part in the work, and shared in the exile of those faithful men who introduced the gospel among the South Sea Islands. He was then employed, first as agent, and afterwards as Foreign Secretary of the London Missionary Society, till 1841, when, his health failing, he was compelled to seek its restoration in comparative retirement. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Old Missionary Lieutenant-governors of the North-west and the Punjab. Half a dozen tents on either side formed a short broad street down the middle of a mango grove, with a strip of lawn between and a noble pipal-tree closing in the upper end. On the right of its towering masses of foliage stood the lieutenant-governor's pavilion, the British flag twisting lazily round its pole in the sunshine. The tents of the Secretary to Government, the private secretary, the aide-de-camp, and the officer commanding the escort, were ranged in military line on one side. Of the lawn. The less regular row facing them was made up of the tents of our small District staff, the judge, the magistrate and his assistant, the superintendent of police, and the old doctor with his melancholy flute. A structure of yellow native cloth for mess pur poses and public receptions stood at the head of the little white street, and was connected with the lieutenant-governor's pavilion by a covered way of canvas across the grass. A few clerks, the troopers of the escort, and the servants, had their humble pent-roof encampment behind the pipal tree on the outskirts of the grove.
