Book Don t Foolish Yourself Impermanence as the Key to Wisdom

Download or read book Don t Foolish Yourself Impermanence as the Key to Wisdom written by Robert Colacurcio and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2024-04-28 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subtitle of this book is “Impermanence as the Key to Wisdom.” Actually the word “wisdom” occurs only infrequently as in the expression “the arc of evolution leads to the goal of wisdom-compassion non dual” for every sentient being. In days gone by, Catholic universities especially used to feature wisdom as one of the primary goals of their curriculum. Wisdom as a feature of higher education seems to have fallen out of favor. I’m not clear on why that is, except that once upon a time, philosophy & theology used to be enthroned as the Queen of the Sciences. Not beheaded quite, but certainly dethroned, she now serves more like the scullery maid in the Castle of Technology. Whatever the case may be, I’m not talking about “wisdom” as the West has typically understood it. My explication of impermanence is about one of the many folds the universe takes to crease the fabric of its infinitely varied manifestations. I have adopted the spiritual technology of the Buddha to do this. Therefore, my approach is the rather eastern, specifically Tibetan, viewpoint of what “wisdom” means. Nevertheless, I try my best to explain the methodology from the Buddha’s toolkit in terms a contemporary western reader will not find foreign.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mind, Brain and the Path to Happiness presents a contemporary account of traditional Buddhist mind training and the pursuit of wellbeing and happiness in the context of the latest research in psychology and the neuroscience of meditation. Following the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of Dzogchen, the book guides the reader through the gradual steps in transformation of the practitioner’s mind and brain on the path to advanced states of balance, genuine happiness and wellbeing. Dusana Dorjee explains how the mind training is grounded in philosophical and experiential exploration of the notions of happiness and human potential, and how it refines attention skills and cultivates emotional balance in training of mindfulness, meta-awareness and development of healthy emotions. The book outlines how the practitioner can explore subtle aspects of conscious experience in order to recognize the nature of the mind and reality. At each of the steps on the path the book provides novel insights into similarities and differences between Buddhist accounts and current psychological and neuroscientific theories and evidence. Throughout the book the author skilfully combines Buddhist psychology and Western scientific research with examples of meditation practices, highlighting the ultimately practical nature of Buddhist mind training. Mind, Brain and the Path to Happiness is an important book for health professionals and educators who teach or apply mindfulness and meditation-based techniques in their work, as well as for researchers and students investigating these techniques both in a clinical context and in the emerging field of contemplative science.

  • Pages : 261 pages

Download or read book Revelation written by Brad Steiger and published by Reality Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation: The Divine Fire A Biblical prediction says that "In the latter days, your sons and daughters shall prophesy." Brad Steiger has communicated with literally hundreds of individuals who claim to have received messages directly from God -- or from spacemen, angels, spirit guides, or other superhuman entities. It would be easy to dismiss these latter-day prophets as deluded, but amazingly, their revelations all have an internal consistency, a common theme: a time of judgment is at hand, and humankind must change its ways to avert disaster. Moreover, contemporary housewives, business executives, and "Jesus people" are experiencing the same symptoms of revelation- - a blinding light, a voice out of nowhere, an impulse to take on a new name and a new life. On the track of the elusive source of these messages, Steiger examines the spread of glossolalia and faith-healing; the folklore of elves and leprechauns; the awesome cases where a revelator's body is briefly occupied by an outside personality; the mysterious "Elijah" tradition of the Bible that suggests that the great prophets (perhaps even Jesus) were possessed by a single entity; and the latest laboratory research into consciousness expansion. Revelation: The Divine Fire presents actual warnings, predictions, and messages from a wide spectrum of contemporary revelators. In addition, there are interviews and evaluations from a number of clergymen, scientists, and psychics who have met the Divine Fire. "Steiger's 'divine fire' is something. . . which, from the: beginning of recorded history down to the present, has communicated a revelation to man. [Steiger] is properly objective in his evaluation of the significance of such phenomena, setting forth the opinions of various scientific - or at least thoughtful - observers on the subject and, where necessary, synthesizing such opinions." Kirkus Reviews "In the tradition of William James' Varieties of Religious Experiences we have an important collection of valuable data that should be read and considered by any one interested in the pursuit of man, his meaning, and destiny. For me this book was an exciting adventure." Paul Severson, Fate magazine "Steiger enormously expands the definition of revelation. . . . What emerges is an engrossing compilation of esoteric events reported by those experiencing them." Library Journal "Brad Steiger has written a shelf-full of books on psychic phenomena. Many people throughout the country first developed an interest in extrasensory perception through the work of this prolific author." Martin Ebon, OCCULT magazine
