Download or read book Fundamental Algorithms for Computer Graphics written by Rae Earnshaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1020 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithms provide the basic foundation for all computational processes. This volume presents algorithms at the foundational level and also at the various levels between this level and the user application. Some of these algorithms are classical and have become well established in the field. This material is therefore a rich source of information and is still relevant and up to date. The basic primitives of computer graphics have remained unchanged: lines, circles, conics, curves and characters. This volume contains reference material in all these areas. The higher levelsof contouring and surface drawing are also well covered. Developments in hardware architectures have continued since the first printing, but the basic principles of hardware/software trade-offs remain valid. This reprint is being published as a Study Edition to make the material more accessible to students and researchers in the field of computer graphics andits applications. The continuing popularity of the original book demonstrates the value and timeliness of its contents.
Download or read book Computer Science and Scientific Computing written by James M. Ortega and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Science and Scientific Computing contains the proceedings of the Third ICASE Conference on Scientific Computing held in Williamsburg, Virginia, on April l and 2, 1976, under the auspices of the Institute for Computer Applications in Systems Engineering at the NASA Langley Research Center. The conference provided a forum for reviewing all the aspects of scientific computing and covered topics ranging from computer-aided design (CAD) and computer science technology to the design of large hydrodynamics codes. Case studies in reliable computing are also presented. Comprised of 13 chapters, this book begins with an introduction to the use of the hierarchical family concept in the development of scientific programming systems. The discussion then turns to the data structures of scientific computing and their representation and management; some important CAD capabilities required to support aerospace design in the areas of interactive support, information management, and computer hardware advances as well as some computer science developments which may contribute significantly to making such capabilities possible; and the use of symbolic computation systems for problem solving in scientific research. Subsequent chapters deal with computer applications in astrophysics; the possibility of computing turbulence and numerical wind tunnels; and the basis for a general-purpose program for finite element analysis. Software tools for computer graphics are also considered. This monograph will be of value to scientists, systems designers and engineers, and students in computer science who have an interest in the subject of scientific computing.
Download or read book The New S Language written by R. Becker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides documentation for a new version of the S system released in 1988. The new S enhances the features that have made S popular: interactive computing, flexible graphics, data management and a large collection of functions. The new S features make possible new applications and higher-level programming, including a single unified language, user defined functions as first-class objects, symbolic computations, more accurate numerical calculations and a new approach to graphics. S now provides direct interfaces to the poowerful tool of the UNIX operating system and to algorithms implemented in Fortran and C.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assembled here is a collection of articles presented at a NATO ADVANCED STU DY INSTITUTE held at Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain during the period of July 10th to 21st, 1989. In addition to the editors of these proceedings Professor Larry L. Schumaker from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, served as a member of the international organizing committee. The contents of the contribu tions fall within the heading of COMPUTATION OF CURVES AND SURFACES and therefore address mathematical and computational issues pertaining to the dis play, modeling, interrogation and representation of complex geometrical objects in various scientific and technical environments. As is the intent of the NATO ASI program the meeting was two weeks in length and the body of the scientific activities was organized around prominent experts. Each of them presented lectures on his current research activity. We were fortunate to have sixteen distinguished invited speakers representing nine NATO countries: W. Bohm (Federal Republic of Germany), C. de Boor (USA), C.K. Chui (USA), W. Dahmen (Federal Republic of Germany), F. Fontanella (Italy), M. Gasca (Spain), R. Goldman (Canada), T.N.T. Goodman (UK), J.A. Gregory (UK), C. Hoffman (USA), J. Hoschek (Federal Republic of Germany), A. Le Mehaute (France), T. Lyche (Norway), C.A. Micchelli (USA), 1.1. Schumaker (USA), C. Traas (The Netherlands). The audience consisted of both young researchers as well as established scientists from twelve NATO countries and several non-NATO countries.

Book excerpt: The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected booksthat have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort toincrease global appeal and general circulation. With these newunabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives ofthese works by making them available to future generations ofstatisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "Books such as this that bring together, clarify, and summarizerecent research can lead to a great increase of interest in thearea. . . . a major achievement in describing many aspects ofspatial data and discussing, with examples, different methods ofanalysis." –Royal Statistical Society "Dr. Ripley’s book is an excellent survey of the spatialstatistical methodology. It is very well illustrated with examples[that] give a clear view of the wide scope of the subject, the wayin which techniques often have to be tailored to particularapplications, and the different sorts of spatial data thatarise." –The Bulletin of the London Mathematics Society Spatial Statistics provides a comprehensive guide to theanalysis of spatial data. Each chapter covers a particular dataformat and the associated class of problems, introducing theory, giving computational suggestions, and providing examples. Methodsare illustrated by computer-drawn figures. The book serves as anintroduction to this rapidly growing research area formathematicians and statisticians, and as a reference to newcomputer methods for researchers in ecology, geology, archaeology, and the earth sciences.

This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume entitled Advanced Science and Technology of Sintering, contains the edited Proceedings of the Ninth World Round Table Conference on Sintering (IX WRTCS), held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, September 1-4 1998. The gathering was one in a series of World Round Table Conferences on Sintering organised every four years by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and the International Institute for the Science of Sintering (IISS). The World Round Table Conferences on Sintering have been traditionally held in Yugoslavia. The first meeting was organised in Herceg Novi in 1969 and since then they have regularly gathered the scientific elite in the science of sintering. It is not by chance that, at these conferences, G. C. Kuczynski, G. V. Samsonov, R. Coble, Ya. E. Geguzin and other great names in this branch of science presented their latest results making great qualitative leaps in the its development. Belgrade hosted this conference for the first time. It was chosen as a reminder that 30 years ago it was the place where the International Team for Sintering was formed, further growing into the International Institute for the Science of Sintering. The IX WRTCS lasted four days. It included 156 participants from 17 countries who presented the results of their theoretical and experimental research in 130 papers in the form of plenary lectures, oral presentations and poster sections.
