Download or read book A Method of Calculating Turbulent boundary layer Growth at Hypersonic Mach Numbers written by James C. Sivells and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed for calculating the growth of a turbulent boundary layer at hypersonic Mach numbers. Excellent agreement with experimental results from axisymmetric nozzles has been obtained by the application of this method. The method utilizes a modification of Stewartson's transformation to simplify the integration of the momentum equation. Heat transfer is taken into account by evaluating the gas properties at Eckert's reference temperature and by using a modification of Crocco's quadratic for the temperature distribution in the boundary layer. A new empirical relation is used for the incompressible friction coefficient which agrees with experimental data over a Reynold's number range from 10(superscript 5) to 10(superscript 9).

This book was released on 1967 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method predicts that a positive pressure gradient increases and a negative pressure gradient decreases the ratio of Stanton number to friction coefficient. The Crocco relation between the velocity and total enthalpy for a non-adiabatic surface and zero pressure gradient is generalized to non-zero pressure gradient. The relation between the velocity and the total enthalpy varies markedly from the flat plate Crocco relation as the pressure gradient departs from zero. The magnitude of the variation depends on the velocity profile shape parameter. (Author).

Download or read book Numerical Prediction of Flow Heat Transfer Turbulence and Combustion written by D. Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Prediction of Flow, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and Combustion: Selected Works of Professor D. Brian Spalding focuses on the many contributions of Professor Spalding on thermodynamics. This compilation of his works is done to honor the professor on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Relatively, the works contained in this book are selected to highlight the genius of Professor Spalding in this field of interest. The book presents various research on combustion, heat transfer, turbulence, and flows. His thinking on separated flows paved the way for the multi-dimensional modeling of turbulence. Arguments on the universality of the models of turbulence and the problems that are associated with combustion engineering are clarified. The text notes the importance of combustion science as well as the problems associated with it. Mathematical computations are also presented in determining turbulent flows in different environments, including on curved pipes, curved ducts, and rotating ducts. These calculations are presented to further strengthen the claims of Professor Spalding in this discipline. The book is a great find for those who are interested in studying thermodynamics.
