This book was released on 1995-03-29 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 20-year-old problem of the confinement and the resulting spectrum of the bound states is central to quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Many approaches have been tried starting from different points of view: the potential theory, the Bethe-Salpeter equation, string and flux tube models, bag models, vacuum structure, current algebra, lattice theory, and numerical simulations. Phenomenological assumptions and first-principle theoretical results or indications have been combined. Many partial successes have been attained, but a unified and comprehensive treatment is still lacking.In recent years, new attention has been given to the problem, both in terms of theoretical developments and for the purpose of evaluating the spectrum and other properties of the particles. In particular, attention has been focussed on areas like numerical simulations, the derivation of the potential, the use of the Bethe-Salpeter equation, the connection between the potential and the chiral symmetry approach.This workshop was an opportunity for a synthesis and a comparison of the different points of view.

Book Strange Particle Production in Hadronic Z Decays

Download or read book Strange Particle Production in Hadronic Z Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been made of neutral strange baryons and pseudoscalar mesons produced in hadronic decays of the weak gauge boson V. The experiment was performed at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, which has the unique capability of colliding highly polarized electrons with unpolarized positrons. Overall production rates and spectra of the K° and the [Lambda]° (+[Lambda]°) were measured and compared with other experiments as well as with Quantum Chromodynamics calculations. The combination of the small, stable beam spots produced by the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) and the precision vertexing capabilities of the SLC Large Detector (SLD) permitted the separation of the hadronic events into three quark flavor-enriched samples. An unfolding was performed to obtain flavor-pure samples, and for the first time measurements were made of K° and [Lambda]° (+[Lambda]°) production rates and spectra in uds, c, and b quark events at the Z° pole. This measurement revealed significant production differences. Utilizing the large quark production asymmetry due to the polarized electron beam, high-purity quark and antiquark jet samples were obtained. The first measurement of production differences of the [Lambda]° baryon in quark and antiquark jets was performed, which provided clear evidence for a leading particle effect at high momenta.

Book B Baryon Production and Decays and B Hadron Lifetimes

Download or read book B Baryon Production and Decays and B Hadron Lifetimes written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we review the most recent results concerning B Baryons at CDF and D0, including the observation and the study of the properties of the?{sub b}−,?{sub b}− and?{sub b}{sup ±(*)}, the observation of new?{sub b}° decay modes, and a new measurement of the lifetime of the b hadrons in decays with a J/?. The?{sub b}− baryon is observed through the decay chain?{sub b}− → J/??−, where J/? →??−,?− →?K−, and? → pK−, using 4.2 fb−1 of data. The?{sub b}− mass is measured to be 6054.4 ± 6.8(stat.) ± 0.9(syst.) MeV/c2, and the lifetime 1.13{sub -0.40}{sup +0.53}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.) ps. For the?{sub b}− the mass is measured 5790.9 ± 2.6(stat.) ± 0.8(syst.) MeV/c2 and the lifetime 1.56{sub -0.25}{sup +0.27}(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.) ps. A new accurate measurement of the properties of the resonances?{sub b}+,?{sub b}−,?*{sub b}+, and?*{sub b}− has been performed in 6 fb−1 of data, and the masses have been determined, m(?{sub b}+) = 5811.2{sub -0.8}{sup +0.9}(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.), m(?{sub b}−) = 5815.5{sub -0.5}{sup +0.6}(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.), m(?*{sub b}+) = 5832.0 ± 0.7(stat.) ± 1.8(syst.), and m(?*{sub b}−) = 5835.0 ± 0.6(stat.) ± 1.8(syst.). The?{sub b}° →?{sub c}(2595)+?− →?{sub c}+?−?+?−,?{sub b}° →?{sub c}(2625)+?− →?{sub c}+?−?+?−,?{sub b}° →?{sub c}(2455){sup ++}?−?− →?{sub c}+?−?+?−, and?{sub b}° →?{sub c}(2455)°?+?− →?{sub c}+?−?+?−. CDF has performed new measurements of the b hadron lifetimes in decays with a J/?. The measured lifetimes are the currently most precise determination of the B+, B° and?{sub b}° lifetimes. The measured values are c?(B+) = 491.4 ± 2.6(stat.) ± 2.6(syst.)?m, c?(B) = 451.7 ± 3.0(stat.) ± 2.5(syst.)?m, and c?(?{sub b}°) = 460.8 ± 13.4(stat.) {+-} 4.1(syst.)?m.
