Book A Manual of the Practice of Medicine Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of the Practice of Medicine Classic Reprint written by T. H. Tanner and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of the Practice of Medicine A third edition of this Manual having been demanded, I have endeavored to render it more worthy of the great encouragement hitherto bestowed upon it. In doing this, the original plan has been adhered to, of making its pages the medium of as much practical information as the limited space at ray disposal would allow: my aim having been to obtain brevity, not so much by omission as by a strict avoidance of all reiteration; by on all occasions saying what I mean in the fewest number of words possible; as well as by a careful selection of those points, only, which can aid the practitioner in the discharge of his responsible duties at the bedside. In short, I have endeavored to paint the features of disease not imperfectly, but - as it were - in miniature. Without attempting in any degree to deprecate criticism, it is still due to my readers to say - how sincerely I trust it may not be thought that too dogmatic a tone has been adopted in the remarks upon the treatment of disease. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine: A Handbook for Practitioners and Students What is health The answer to this inquiry can scarcely be given in the form of a definition, yet it requires no medical education to suggest a picture of what health is at the typical eras of human existence, when all the various functions of the human body are performed easily, naturally, and well. The healthy individual breathes without. Difficulty, the food taken is relished and properly assimilated, the blood is forced from its centre - the heart - onwards over the body, without valvular flaw or subsequent hindrance, and the brain, with its nervous expansion undisturbed by morbid fancies, controls the movements and the thoughts of the living organism. Disease is a devia tion, to a greater or less extent, from what we thus realize, though we cannot define, as the standard Of health. It may invade one or more Of the systems we have alluded to, and it is the duty Of the physi eian to find out, by the varied appliances Of his art. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The General Practitioner: A Manual for the Practice of Medicine, Embracing Nearly All the Diseases of the Various Branches of the Healing Art, With Their Several Definitions, Symptoms and Causes In launching this book into the sea of medical life, the author is very well aware that it is not a full ship; but among the smaller craft it is sure to take the rank of a trustworthy life-boat. As would be expected, the matter treated of in this work is neither new nor original; but the author claims for the form in which it has been pressed, not only originality, but real practical utility, and as it is expected to furnish to a large circle of the medical profession a veritable hand-book, for reference, of service, in any case, whatever its nature may be, hopes that it will prove a true friend to many a practitioner into whose hands it should fall. To avoid a wrong interpretation of the above assertion it will be necessary to add, that any given case will have something of an analogon of service to the reflective physician. Book A Text Book of the Practice of Medicine Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of the Practice of Medicine Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Hermann Eichhorst and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of the Practice of Medicine, Vol. 1 For those who read German no introduction to Eichhorst's Practice of Medicine will be necessary; and it is hoped that this translation may prove not less useful than the original, and as popular. The text will be found at once concise and comprehensive, but additions and annotations have been made where it seemed they might be serviceable. The book differs somewhat from most other works on the practice of medicine in containing, among other things, appropriate sections devoted to a consideration of Diseases of the Skin, the Venereal Diseases, Impotence and Sterility in the Male, and Spermatorrhea. A number of illustrations have been added, in part replacing, in part supplementing, those in the original. The book has been written especially to meet the needs of the student, but it should prove useful also to the busy practitioner. For convenience of manipulation it has been deemed wise to present the work in two volumes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine: A Text-Book for Practitioners and Students, With Special Reference to Diagnosis and Treatment I have no apology to make for preparing this book. I have long contemplated it, and have finished it after several years' labor. It has taken some time, because it represents almost purely personal work, which has been frequently interrupted. It does not pretend to be based on my personal practice only. In these days of specialized work this would be impossible, though with most of even the rare forms of disease in every section I have had some experience. To fill in the gaps of my own knowledge I have used that of others, but have always sought to make suitable acknowledgment to the proper source, and if this has not been done in any case, it has been a matter of oversight. I had not, at the outset, expected to illustrate the work, but, as it progressed, a certain number of illustrations seemed necessary, not only to explain the text, but also, in a few instances, to render clearer the treatment described. Thus the number of charts and other drawings has grown to nearly a hundred, all of which, it is hoped, will be found useful. In expectation of the ultimate adoption of the metric system for the measuring of doses, these have been indicated throughout the book in the metric and English measures. Acknowledgment is due to Dr. Joseph P. Walsh and Mr. M. A. Morin for suggestions after reading the text, to Dr. William Schleif for material assistance in Section XV, and to my son, Dr. T. Mellor Tyson, for assistance throughout the work and especially in preparing the index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of the Principles and Practice of Medicine: For the Use of Medical Students and Practitioners IN this volume I have endeavored to present, in addition to the fruits of my own observation and experience, the substance of the latest editions of the works of Ziegler, Hallopeau, Eichhorst, Cornil, and Babes, and of the collaborators of the Traité de Médecine. In order to secure the greatest possible brevity, matters of an historical and controversial nature have been omitted, and every effort has been made to exclude whatever is not absolutely essential for the information of the student. Numerous interesting topics have accordingly received but brief notice. It has seemed best to aim at the construction of a definite framework which the future physician can clothe with the results of subsequent reading and observation.
