Book A Manual of Marching Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Marching Classic Reprint written by George A. Cornell and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Marching The value of marching from a normal standpoint is becoming increasingly evident. The increased demand for a useful textbook has made a fifth edition of Mr. Cornell's Manual a necessity. In this edition the general changes adopted for the fourth edition have been retained. First, the material has been largely rearranged using a topical scheme, bringing similar movements together, rather than the strictly formation scheme of previous editions. It is believed that this has made the material more readily accessible to untechnical tacticians. Second, a number of movements and maneuvers have been added, particularly facings while on the march, designed to be executed in a small space and yet give training in alertness. This phase is particularly emphasized in school work. Third, a number of more complicated movements suitable for fancy or exhibition marching have been added. Book Marching for Gymnasium Use Classic Reprint

Download or read book Marching for Gymnasium Use Classic Reprint written by Alfred T. Halsted and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Marching for Gymnasium Use It is desirable that marching orders in the gymnasium should conform as nearly as practicable to those used in military drill, for the sake of uniformity, and to avoid adverse criticism from those accustomed to military tactics. Certain modifications and peculiarities are necessary or desirable, however, to meet the need of the gymnasium. Where such changes are made it is well to make them agree as nearly as possible with the military form. The writer is indebted to Infantry Drill Regulations, U. S. Army, for much of the material from which this arrange ment is compiled. The company formation with officers is not followed. In forming the line it is formed single in depth, and every man is as a private in the ranks. I t is hoped that what follows will prove helpful to many who wish to improve in their floor methods. On the word Attention, the hands are to fall smartly upon the outside Of the thighs; right heel to be brought up in a line with left; and the proper unconstrained posi tion of a soldier immediately resumed. When the recruit falls in for instruction, he is first to be taught to place himself, on the word Attention, in the position above described, to remain perfectly steady, and to give his whole attention to his commander. Before the word Attention is given, and occasionally during the time of drill, the recruit may be allowed to rest by Stand at Ease, as above explained. When standing at ease for any considerable time in cold weather, the men are permitted to move their limbs, but without quitting their ground, so that upon the word Attention, no one shall have materially lost his dressing in the line. In this case the Stand at Ease is given in the tone of a permission and not of command. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
