Book A Manual of Fevers Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Fevers Classic Reprint written by Claude Buchanan Ker and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Fevers In the preparation of this edition the whole book has been subjected to a thorough revision, and a considerable number of alterations and additions have been made. At the same time every care has been taken to keep the size of the volume within reasonable limits, and with this object in view I have resisted the temptation to add chapters on influenza, poliomyelitis, and encephalitis lethargica. These diseases, however, are only occasionally met with in the fever hospitals, and their omission from a volume primarily intended for students attending classes at those institutions may reasonably be excused. Book Text Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers Classic Reprint written by John W. Moore and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers IT may be desirable to state very briefly the circumstances under which this work has come to see the light. To write a Text-book on Fever while the splendid mono graph of Charles Murchison is our possession to all time may well be deemed presumptuous. But, on the threshold, I would disclaim any intention of allowing the present work hoc parvum opusculum - to enter the lists with that unrivalled masterpiece. However, even since Dr. William Cayley, in 1884, edited, with excellent good taste and literary skill, the posthumous edition of Murchison's Treatise, the study of the Continued F evers has received a great impetus, and the necessity of a sound knowledge of Fever by every practitioner of medicine has been more and more recognised. Book Lectures on Fevers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lectures on Fevers Classic Reprint written by Alfred L. Loomis and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on Fevers These lectures were delivered in the Medical Department of the University of the City of New York, to the Class of 1876-77. With unimportant alterations, I now offer them as they were photographically reported by Dr. Win. M. Carpenter. As in the preparation of my "Lectures on Diseases of the Lungs, Heart, and Kidneys." it has been my custom after careful reading and close analysis of the subject of each lecture, to trust that the stimulus of the class would enable me to present the most recent views of acknowledged authorities, combined with the results of my own clinical observation and experience, in so simple, intelligible, and concise a manner that each student might master the prominent points. I have adopted an etiological basis in the classification of fevers, and have endeavored to include in a few general classes all the numerous types described by different writers. I have referred to theoretical questions only so far as was necessary in order to the proper understanding of subjects under consideration. The Bibliography which accompanies these lectures includes those books, monographs, and theses which have been published since 1850, nearly all of which have been written, or are in circulation, in this country. Book A Treatise on Fever Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Treatise on Fever Classic Reprint written by Southwood Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Fever The following Work is wholly of a practical nature: its object is to ascertain the real phenomena of Fever, and the most safe and effectual treatment of the disease. It was found impossible to include in this volume some researches of a statistical nature which it was at first intended to incorporate in the work. On looking over the account which has been given of the phenomena, I find that, by an oversight, I have omitted to make any mention of the peculiar odour which belongs to a fever-patient. It is so characteristic that a person, familiar with the disease, might in many cases be able to pronounce, merely from the odour of the effluvia that arises from the body, whether the disease were fever. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on the Continued Fevers Tremor and delirium are other signs which call for stimulants; they are mostly the result of failing nervous power. Yet, certainly with reference to delirium, we cannot make our rule too absolute. Delirium may be due, not to defective nerve-energy and poisoned blood, but to intracranial mischief, though, excepting cerebro - spinal fever, such is rarely the case. Book The Estivo Autumnal Remittent

Download or read book The Estivo Autumnal Remittent written by Charles F. Craig and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Estivo Autumnal (Remittent): Malarial Fevers The reason for the preparation of this volume is given in the introduction. It deals with a much-neglected subject in the text-books upon medicine, and one which is of the utmost im portance to the profession. It will be noticed that I have not considered the subject of hemoglobinuric fever at all. This is not an oversight on my part, but because I believe that in a work such as this the subject should be confined as much as possible. As the etiology of hemoglobinuric fever is still some what in doubt, and as there are many excellent treatises upon it, I have thought it best to ignore it entirely. My gratitude is due the surgeon-general Of the Army for the Opportunities afforded me to study the malarial fevers. To Colonel A. A. Woodhull, Assistant surgeon-general of the Army, Colonel William C. Forwood, Assistant surgeon-general, United States Army, and to Major Charles Richard, Surgeon, United States Army, my thanks are due for encouragement and assistance. Down near the docks, many have taken ill, and the fatalities are mounting. Now they include Polly, the serving girl at the Cook Coffeehouse. But fourteen-year-old Mattie Cook doesn't get a moment to mourn the passing of her childhood playmate. New customers have overrun her family's coffee shop, located far from the mosquito-infested river, and Mattie's concerns of fever are all but overshadowed by dreams of growing her family's small business into a thriving enterprise. But when the fever begins to strike closer to home, Mattie's struggle to build a new life must give way to a new fight-the fight to stay alive.
