Book Losses in Water Distribution Networks

Download or read book Losses in Water Distribution Networks written by M. Farley and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2003-03-31 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a best practice manual for addressing water losses in water distribution networks worldwide. Systems and methodologies are presented for improving water loss and leakage management in a range of networks, from systems with a well-developed infrastructure to those in developing countries where the network may need to be upgraded. The key feature of the manual is a diagnostic approach to develop a water loss strategy - using the appropriate tools to find the right solutions - which can be applied to any network. The methods of assessing the scale and volume of water loss are outlined, together with the procedures for setting up leakage monitoring and detection systems. As well as real losses (leakage) procedures for addressing apparent losses, by introducing regulatory and customer metering policies are explained. Suggestions are made for demand management and water conservation programmes, to complement the water loss strategy. Recommendations are made for training workshops and operation and maintenance programmes to ensure skills transfer and sustainability. The manual is illustrated throughout with case studies. Losses in Water Distribution Networks will appeal to a wide range of practitioners responsible for designing and managing a water loss strategy. These include consultants, operations managers, engineers, technicians and operational staff. It will also be a valuable reference for senior managers and decision makers, who may require an overview of the principles and procedures for controlling losses. The book will also be suitable as a source document for courses in Water Engineering, Resource Management and Environmental Management.

Book Water Supply Network District Metering

Download or read book Water Supply Network District Metering written by Armando Di Nardo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-18 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of a water supply network can be substantially improved defining permanent sectors or districts that enhances simpler water loss detection and pressure management. However, the water network partitioning may compromise water system performance, since some pipes are usually closed to delimit districts in order not to have too many metering stations, to decrease costs and simplify water balance. This may reduce the reliability of the whole system and not guarantee the delivery of water at the different network nodes. In practical applications, the design of districts or sectors is generally based on empirical approaches or on limited field experiences. The book proposes a design support methodology, based on graph theory principles and tested on real case study. The described methodology can help water utilities, professionals and researchers to define the optimal districts or sectors of a water supply network.

Book Handbook of Marketing and Society

Download or read book Handbook of Marketing and Society written by Paul N. Bloom and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2001 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marketing scholars have a long history of conducting research on how marketing affects the welfare of society. A significant body of knowledge has developed to look beyond marketing's impact on the corporate bottom line towards the affects of marketing on consumer sovereignty, public health, economic growth, and other aspect of societal welfare. The large and growing amount of research has become fragmented and diverse. There is a need for a volume to pull all of this research together to facilitate the assessment of what we have learned and what we need to study further. This volume fills that need! Handbook of Marketing and Society presents the first comprehensive, in-depth examination of scholarly research on how marketing affects societal welfare. Drawing on the talents of a distinguished group of contributors, the editors have assembled key reviews, analyses, and perspectives on a broad range of research topics including deceptive advertising, warning labels, trademark infringement, antitrust enforcement, environmental labels, privacy protection, social marketing, and corporate societal marketing. An unifying model is presented in the introduction that illustrates the linkage of marketing knowledge, marketing decisions, and societal welfare. Each chapter covers, in a purposeful way, a different link or path through which marketing can affect societal welfare. Future research needs are identified in each chapter in order to help focus marketing thinking and marketing practice serve society more effectively. Academics, graduate students, and others interested in marketing's role in society will find this a valuable resource and an excellent guidebook for future research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive framework of the current state of water resources in Italy and of the main stages of the evolutionary way in the last decades for achieving an integrated, sustainable and equitable water resources management. The main paradigms of water resources development are identified as: i) engineering and economic approach to water resources exploitation, ii) focus on pollution control and water-excess management, iii) a comprehensive approach toward a sustainable and equitable distribution of resources and effective risk reduction of water-related disasters. After a section devoted to the analysis of some historic stages in the legislation framework and the governance of water and soil, with particular reference to planning, design, building and operation of water systems, two sections deal with the estimation of water resources availability on national territory and estimation of water demands in municipal, agricultural, industrial, ecosystem sectors. The complex problems that the Italian society has to solve in the water field and the main challenges of a changing world are discussed in the fourth section of the volume. The book will not only be useful for water professionals, but also for citizen who like to discern the key factors which delay the recognition of water as a resource for life. The description of the problems and adopted solutions could also serve as a guideline for similar situations encountered in other countries, improving the preparation of the responsible people.

Book Maritime Operations Law in Practice

Download or read book Maritime Operations Law in Practice written by David Letts and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-09 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The law that applies to maritime operations at sea is complex and comprises two distinct elements: treaty law (1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea), and the cases and incidents that occur at sea in both peacetime and during armed conflict which result in the creation of customary international law applicable to maritime operations at sea. Covering sovereignty and vessel status, jurisdiction and interdiction, freedom of navigation, maritime law enforcement and security, and the law of naval warfare, this edited collection brings together the most famous and influential cases and incidents at sea. Exploring the entire spectrum of maritime operations from ‘high end’ war-fighting to constabulary operations that are conducted by naval forces and maritime law enforcement agencies at sea to provide the factual circumstances of each case or incident; offering sophisticated analysis and insights into the case or incidents enduring importance, and their significance for the development of the law applicable to maritime operations; and offering a detailed account and evaluation of the most critical but rarely understood cases in maritime operations law, which encourages comparison between key cases, this book will be an essential reference for practitioners, scholars, teachers, and students of maritime operations law.
