Download or read book A Long Line of Messed Up Fathers and Sons written by Bob Weaver and published by BookLocker.com. This book was released on 2022-08-30 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have a good friend that I have observed over the years and admire his many accomplishments. He is a best selling author, a successful pastor, a motivational speaker, and seems to have excelled in about every area of his life. I would never wish any of these things to be taken away from him, but I must confess there have been times in my life when I was a bit envious. The one major difference between his life and mine was that he also had a tremendous father who had also been a successful pastor, a college president, and a much sought after professional speaker. I said to myself, “ If I had a father like he did, I could have accomplished much more in my life.” The words barely came out of my mouth when I heard God say in my spirit, “Well, you didn’t have a father like he had, but you can be a father like he had.” Those words spoken so clearly to me that day have prompted my efforts over the last forty years to try and be a good dad. They were the genesis of this book. I wish that I could say that I flipped a switch that day and was a great dad all of a sudden, but that’s not the way it played out. I am better than I was but I am still not what I would like to be. My prayer is that something may be said here that will challenge you to try to be a better dad. As I said it is something of a process, or maybe a journey would be a better way to describe it. My advice? Keep walking in the right direction. Don’t stop, even when you fail, and you will fail, we all do, just get back in there and keep on keeping on. You have my love and prayers. Feel free to connect with me on Facebook. Bob
Download or read book Fathers Playing Catch with Sons written by Donald Hall and published by North Point Press. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in Fathers Playing Catch with Sons are a wonderful mixture of reminiscence and observation, of baseball and of fathers and sons, of how a game binds people together and bridges generations. In the pantheon of great sports literature, not a few poets have tried their hand at paying tribute to their love affair with the game--Walt Whitman, Marianne Moore, and William Carlos Williams among them. This elegant volume collects Donald Hall's prose about sports, concentrating on baseball but extending to basketball, football and Ping-Pong.
Download or read book A Boy s Summer written by Gerry Spence and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gerry Spence, father to six, grandfather to ten, is a man who knows intimately the joys of fatherhood and who writes beautifully and lyrically about how fatherhood allows a man to rediscover the boy within himself, while simultaneously assuming true adult responsibility for the first time. This is a man who truly understands boys and how boys grow up to become men. No school teaches us how to become successful human beings; there are no classes to teach boys how to become decent adult men. Boys grow up by imitating their father-if, that is, the father spends enough time with his son. A Boy's Summer is a book of short essays describing activities, adventures and experiments that fathers and sons can do together. These projects take from an hour to an afternoon to a weekend-time that a father and son can spend together discovering themselves and the world around them Illustrated with forty-five line drawings by Tom Spence, A Boy's Summer is written so it can be read by father to son or by son to father. "This book is for boys who, with their fathers, will share those precious moments that create the stuff of a lifetime from which successful sons, and because of it, successful fathers, are made."
Download or read book Preaching Your Way Out of a Mess written by Johnny Teague and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day, a pastor faces armies of despair, fatigue, exhaustion, and frustration. That blessed hope of a Spurgeon church has morphed into a Paul prison. Every time he looks up, there is another attack. First errors are found, then sin; doctrinal arguing leads to internal strife. The army of the nation's culture surrounds for the kill. The pastor places his baptism handkerchief on a broom handle and crawls out to surrender. Just then, he looks to the horizon to see a glorious alliance of sixty-six armies. The enemy turns in fear--many ride away, while others engage, only to be routed. The preacher had forgotten that there are more with us than against us. No matter the mess, God is with us. He has given his Spirit to move among us, and he has given us his word to defeat every attack. Grab this handbook and be encouraged; you can preach your way out of every mess.

But from their humble beginnings in Depression-era Wilkes-Barre, PA to this day, the Esseff brothers' lives have been very much intertwined.
