Book Logical Foundations of Mathematics and Computational Complexity

Download or read book Logical Foundations of Mathematics and Computational Complexity written by Pavel Pudlák and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-22 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two main themes of this book, logic and complexity, are both essential for understanding the main problems about the foundations of mathematics. Logical Foundations of Mathematics and Computational Complexity covers a broad spectrum of results in logic and set theory that are relevant to the foundations, as well as the results in computational complexity and the interdisciplinary area of proof complexity. The author presents his ideas on how these areas are connected, what are the most fundamental problems and how they should be approached. In particular, he argues that complexity is as important for foundations as are the more traditional concepts of computability and provability. Emphasis is on explaining the essence of concepts and the ideas of proofs, rather than presenting precise formal statements and full proofs. Each section starts with concepts and results easily explained, and gradually proceeds to more difficult ones. The notes after each section present some formal definitions, theorems and proofs. Logical Foundations of Mathematics and Computational Complexity is aimed at graduate students of all fields of mathematics who are interested in logic, complexity and foundations. It will also be of interest for both physicists and philosophers who are curious to learn the basics of logic and complexity theory.

Book Hegel s Apotheosis of Logic

Download or read book Hegel s Apotheosis of Logic written by Stephen Theron and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents what Hegel calls “the vital spirit of the actual world”, the truth, namely, of logic’s form and content as one concrete whole. Axiomatic here is that thinking is necessarily free and unbounded, if we could escape a performative contradiction in evaluating it. Thinking is absolute, what Hegel calls spirit or mind, Geist. He identifies three forms of “absolute spirit”, namely art, religion and philosophy, where each form is absorbed into the next one; philosophy subsumes religion and religion subsumes art, in a process seeking and achieving the absolute. Philosophy, therefore, is ultimately theology as fulfilling the latter in mind’s constitutive self-transcendence towards “the absolute idea”, itself the absolute, Hegel asserts. This is “absolute idealism”, where the Idea is true being and finite things are transitory notions. This book aims to clarify such conceptions, whereby “theological” transcendent grace is natural or “all in all”, faith is absolute knowledge in germ, things are the opposite of what they “immediately” seem, while achieved self-consciousness is “the ruin of the individual” abstractly parted from its objects. Thus external nature is internal, the whole in or one with the part, necessity absolute freedom, these being stages of Logic. Hegel needs a second, related trio to the above three forms. This is logic, nature and mind, likewise, in ceaseless process, a returning upon self. Thus art’s foundational quality mirrors that of “the logical art”. The individual art-object, art as striving for absolute perfection, founds spirit’s trajectory. Hence, consciousness first appears individual only as set towards universal self-consciousness in “absolute knowing”.

Book The Mark of the Beast Second Edition

Download or read book The Mark of the Beast Second Edition written by Bernard Palfrey and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-04-18 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are glaring examples of error being taught and preached by the vast majority of Christendom; such as the belief that people go to heaven when they die, and that a place of torment is waiting for those who choose not to believe the Christian message. Among much more error being preached, there is also the wide spread belief that the Sabbath day has been changed for Christians from the Saturday to the Sunday. The mark of the beast is not a figment of the imagination but a real danger that will face all of those who refuse to heed the last call of God to worship Him in truth. It is widely believed that at the relevant time it will be an easy thing to refuse to have the mark of the beast. However, the mark of the beast is not a visible sign to accept or reject but a subtle intrusion upon the mind by Satan the arch deceiver. This book contains answers to some important questions. However, these answers will have no meaning to those who refuse to become spiritually aware of the questions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER "Provocative and appealing . . . well worth your extremely limited time." —Barbara Spindel, The Wall Street Journal The average human lifespan is absurdly, insultingly brief. Assuming you live to be eighty, you have just over four thousand weeks. Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem: the challenge of how best to use our four thousand weeks. Drawing on the insights of both ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists, and spiritual teachers, Oliver Burkeman delivers an entertaining, humorous, practical, and ultimately profound guide to time and time management. Rejecting the futile modern fixation on “getting everything done,” Four Thousand Weeks introduces readers to tools for constructing a meaningful life by embracing finitude, showing how many of the unhelpful ways we’ve come to think about time aren’t inescapable, unchanging truths, but choices we’ve made as individuals and as a society—and that we could do things differently.
