Download or read book A Deliberate Life written by Pamela Haskin and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-07-14 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Deliberate Life is the inspiring and oftentimes humorous story of Pamela Haskin and her life in the Alaskan Bush. She says, "I'm not trying to escape society as so many do who come to the Bush. I'm choosing a lifestyle! I want a life with adventure and purpose." Life on the homestead was certainly different from the one Pam had known; a woodpile instead of a thermostat, no running water or indoor plumbing, no electricity, and no phone. And, she chose this! Go figure. Pam touches something in each of us that says life can be more than ordinary. We do indeed have a choice, and we either exercise or surrender that choice each day. Pam's choices changed her life dramatically and set an example for the rest of us. Between these pages you will find a hearty and entertaining example of the power of choice.

Download or read book Deliberate Motherhood written by The Power of Moms and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outstanding authors of Deliberate Motherhood have let the trials and hardships of motherhood mold them into better people. Whether the change includes learning patience when the two-year-old “paints” your walls with the black permanent marker, or forgiving a teenager who screams “I hate you,” or loving more when that naughty child doesn’t really deserve it, it’s a change that refines us—or as the dictionary describes it, “removes impurities, makes something more effective or become more elegant.” That is powerful! You may think that everything has been said about motherhood, but the delightful thing about Deliberate Motherhood is that every mother/author is one-of-a-kind. They each come from different backgrounds, have different parents, are married (or not) to different people, and certainly have “different” children. Each of the 12 “Powers” provided in this book is a crucial component to help you in your motherhood. And the best part is that you don’t need to do it all at once. You can focus on one “power” a month, and over the course of a year, you’ll see great changes in yourself and in your family. The mark of a great book is that it makes you think . . . and it helps you change . . . which in the case of this book, is an absolute guarantee!
Download or read book To Live Deliberately written by Henry David Thoreau and published by Obvious State. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henry David Thoreau dropped the gauntlet with Walden in 1854, and it is more relevant than ever. To Live Deliberately is our visual reimagining of Thoreau's most well-known essay, Where I Lived and What I Lived For. Accompanied by 30 illustrations, the essay challenges the trappings of modern living and embraces an ascetic rejection of the material and the trivial in exchange for a reconnection with nature as a path toward self-discovery. We judiciously edited Thoreau's essay to avoid any unnecessarily confusing news references, and were amazed to discover that not only does this manifesto otherwise hold up, but it also feels surprisingly modern and more relevant than ever. Thoreau's rejection of news as largely gossip, and the obsession with travel and railroads as idle self-indulgence, bear a sobering resemblance to our modern preoccupation with social media and internet surfing. In both instances, the impulse to seek distraction is the same. The Obvious State Classics Collection is an evolving series of visually reimagined beloved works that speaks to contemporary readers. The pocket-sized, collectable editions feature the selected works of celebrated authors such as T. S. Eliot, Edgar Allan Poe, Walt Whitman, Sara Teasdale and Henry David Thoreau.
Download or read book A Deliberate Pause written by Larry Robertson and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deliberate pause is a conscious moment in which we open our minds and ask “why are things the way they are?” and wonder “how could life be better?” Pausing to ask such questions is a natural and uniquely human inclination. It’s also the critical factor that sparks fresh ideas and is seized by entrepreneurs to catalyze seismic changes—ones that allow humanity to progress. A Deliberate Pause (the book) reveals the power of a deliberate pause (the action) while unveiling unexpected truths about entrepreneurship itself. Through example, exploration, and analysis of the innovative thoughts and achievements of more than 200 seasoned entrepreneurial leaders, Larry Robertson shows how each of us can adopt a deliberate pause and an entrepreneurial mindset to better our lives, our species, and our world. In the process, he gives us the understanding of entrepreneurship we’ve been missing—and need now more than ever.

Yet, more people than ever are walking through life disconnected, disengaged, dissatisfied, mired in regret, declining health, and a near maniacal state of gut-wrenching autopilot busyness. Whatever is out there isn’t getting through. We don’t know who to trust. We don’t know what’s real and what’s fantasy. Download or read book The Deliberate Mind written by Ernest Krolick and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-07-24 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written to show what is fundamentally possible. From a life-situation of severe and debilitating psychological suffering to a constant state of ease, joy, peace, love, and abundance in the "now moment". But I did not change my life with words. Instead, I decided to take my mind back and began to point my conscious awareness and attention by choice. By doing this all the time I have come to know the "now moment" much differently than before when I was mostly oblivious to the world around me. Now, everything has changed. How I feel, how others feel around me, how I navigate and interact with my life-experience is evolving and expanding into the far reaches of infinite potential and possibility. But this is not abstract ideology and wordplay designed to excite your mind. Instead, I offer a practice. Something that can be done, and not just talked about. It's an embodiment practice of shining the light of our attention where we want it to shine in the "now moment".

Download or read book A Conscious Life written by Funmi Oyetunji and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-07-16 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my observation of lives around me, I often wonder, What happened there? I imagine what that person might have done to contribute to the success or failure of their own life. Usually, a life attracts my attention because of its exceptionalityfor good or for bad. Over time, I have come to see that many people seem to wander through life, just to wake up one day, usually at about middle age, and realize that their life had happened while they were not looking! This is a clarion call and encouragement to consciousness and deliberateness in living the life one would be proud of in the end. It is also a summary of the lessons I have learned from my own experiences or from books and other resources I have used in my quest for answers on the subject of life. The chapters are arranged based on the different stages and aspects to point out signposts, road junctions, and time lines that the reader can expect to navigate on the journey of life. It is to bring consciousness to the consideration and planning that the different aspects of life need for your own particular journey. The book must not be read in a particular sequence; you can read particular chapters or aspects as required by your particular stage, situation, or need for counsel at different times. Different chapters will be more applicable and enlightening for different readers at different times. It could be growing up and career building time for some, marriage and parenting for others. It might be about maneuvering middle and old age for yet another. In the end, no one can control all aspects of life all the time, but you can be awake and write your own story by making things happen instead of just waiting and watching them happen, accepting whatever life brings. Make your life happen.

Download or read book Love on Purpose written by Ashley Coleman and published by Writelaughdream. This book was released on 2016-12-17 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LOVE ON PURPOSE visits the most common relationship issues and how to work through them in love; from managing unrealistic expectations to improving communication. Coleman shares honest reflections on growth, past mistakes and important lessons in love through her journey of becoming a Christian. Her accounts of learning about God's love caused a transformation in her relationships with friends, family and her significant other. In the book she also challenges readers to do their own self-assessment through "Heart Checks" at the end of each chapter. Starting with a conversation she had with her now husband, the book begins with her realization that love is indeed a choice. Coleman says, "So many of us are searching for the fairytale not knowing what it really means to be in the trenches of love. I'll never forget talking to my husband when we were dating and hearing him say 'Love is a choice.' It was contrary to everything I thought I knew about love. For so long it was all about how love made you feel and not about the important decisions we make every day to believe the best, to be kind and to compromise. Love is a verb, we have to act on it to truly see it manifest "
Download or read book Burning the Books written by Richard Ovenden and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The director of the famed Bodleian Libraries at Oxford narrates the global history of the willful destruction—and surprising survival—of recorded knowledge over the past three millennia. Libraries and archives have been attacked since ancient times but have been especially threatened in the modern era. Today the knowledge they safeguard faces purposeful destruction and willful neglect; deprived of funding, libraries are fighting for their very existence. Burning the Books recounts the history that brought us to this point. Richard Ovenden describes the deliberate destruction of knowledge held in libraries and archives from ancient Alexandria to contemporary Sarajevo, from smashed Assyrian tablets in Iraq to the destroyed immigration documents of the UK Windrush generation. He examines both the motivations for these acts—political, religious, and cultural—and the broader themes that shape this history. He also looks at attempts to prevent and mitigate attacks on knowledge, exploring the efforts of librarians and archivists to preserve information, often risking their own lives in the process. More than simply repositories for knowledge, libraries and archives inspire and inform citizens. In preserving notions of statehood recorded in such historical documents as the Declaration of Independence, libraries support the state itself. By preserving records of citizenship and records of the rights of citizens as enshrined in legal documents such as the Magna Carta and the decisions of the US Supreme Court, they support the rule of law. In Burning the Books, Ovenden takes a polemical stance on the social and political importance of the conservation and protection of knowledge, challenging governments in particular, but also society as a whole, to improve public policy and funding for these essential institutions.
