Download or read book The Little Pocket Book of Happiness written by Lois Blyth and published by Ryland Peters & Small. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swap worry and anxiety for joy and contentment and choose to live in a happier way. Happiness is like the answer to a riddle. The more we want it and the more we seek it, the more elusive it becomes. And yet, when we are least conscious of looking for it, it can envelop us in a warm sense of contentment and belonging, making a single moment precious and valuable beyond measure. A feeling of happiness has the power to light up our whole being. Scientists will tell us that happiness has the power to heal and to extend life. It is the ingredient we all seek to make our lives complete. Like the air we breathe, we are not conscious that we need it, until it disappears. Happiness makes us feel glad to be alive. The Little Pocket Book of Happiness offers you a more joyous approach to living and thinking; a shift in approach that may reframe your view of the world; simple things you can do to reconsider your life – consciously – so that you can decide whether now is the time when you can be happier. It includes strategies to warm the heart and open the mind to the extraordinary power of happiness. It shares the experiences of others and provides the closest we might have to a happiness 'formula'. The good news is, happiness is within everyone's grasp.

The mistakes, misstatements, accidents, misfortunes, problems. Don't let them ruin your life! If bad things happened, it isn't because you're unlucky. It's because you're normal! Your past, the downs as well as the ups, can be a real blessing. It all depends on how you look at them. Laughter is the key. Whatever happened (ridiculous, riotous or ruinous) happened. If you can laugh at it, you can live with it. There is humor in everything. All you have to do is find it. Laughter is good medicine too. When you think back on even a bad event with laughter, it will bring a smile instead of tears or anger. It'll help you-and everyone around you-because happiness is catchy. Go ahead, friend. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When life is funny, make some jokes about it. Billy Plimpton has a big dream: to become a famous comedian when he grows up. He already knows a lot of jokes, but thinks he has one big problem standing in his way: his stutter. At first, Billy thinks the best way to deal with this is to . . . never say a word. That way, the kids in his new school won’t hear him stammer. But soon he finds out this is NOT the best way to deal with things. (For one thing, it’s very hard to tell a joke without getting a word out.) As Billy makes his way toward the spotlight, a lot of funny things (and some less funny things) happen to him. In the end, the whole school will know -- If you think you can hold Billy Plimpton back, be warned: The joke will soon be on you!

Only an orphan named Memory, who knows about love and loss, can teach Clare how to laugh with the moon. Book Under the Microscope

Download or read book Under the Microscope written by Earl Owen and published by Random House Australia. This book was released on 2014-02-03 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the Microscope is the story of an extraordinary man, his many life-changing inventions, and his exceptional life and special friendships. Born into a family of doctors – on the paternal and maternal sides - with a birth defect that no one knew how to treat, Earl Owen was given a dose of radiation before anyone knew what radiation treatment could do to a human body, let alone a newborn baby. Earl Owen’s medical parents, aunts and uncles failed to notice that as he grew he walked with a limp and when he was eleven he had an accident in a school race, which left him in hospital for a year enduring a series of excruciating surgeries in an attempt to remedy his damaged bones. Whilst lying in bed alone in a dark basement room in the hospital, he decided he would grow up to be the a new kind of surgeon - one who would deal delicately and carefully with birth defects and would communicate sensitively with patients. When he was discharged from the hospital he took up piano lessons and discovered he was a talented musician. As he came out of his teens, he had to decide whether to pursue a career as a concert pianist or a surgeon. To say this man is a high achiever barely touches on his gifts and talents. He was one of the earliest, most inventive and enterprising pioneers of microsurgery; he designed instruments and microscopes for his operations; he did the first finger replacement on a child (for which he was sacked from the Sydney Children's Hospital, even though it was successful operation); co-led the team that completed the first successful hand transplant (whose recipient turned out to be an ex-con from New Zealand, who had lost his arm in jail); and trained the team that completed the first double-hand transplant. Earl Owen was the first surgeon to be able to reverse vasectomies and complete fallopian tube ligatures (using his microsurgical prowess). And he designed the chairs in the Sydney Opera House! He has done more in his eighty years than most of us could dream of and this book is his story in his words.

Book The Ladies Repository

Download or read book The Ladies Repository written by and published by . This book was released on 1873 with total page 1012 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of this women's magazine originated with Samuel Williams, a Cincinnati Methodist, who thought that Christian women needed a magazine less worldly than Godey's Lady's Book and Snowden's Lady's Companion. Written largely by ministers, this exceptionally well-printed little magazine contained well-written essays of a moral character, plenty of poetry, articles on historical and scientific matters, and book reviews. Among western writers were Alice Cary, who contributed over a hundred sketches and poems, her sister Phoebe Cary, Otway Curry, Moncure D. Conway, and Joshua R. Giddings; and New England contributors included Mrs. Lydia Sigourney, Hannah F. Gould, and Julia C.R Dorr. By 1851, each issue published a peice of music and two steel plates, usually landscapes or portraits. When Davis E. Clark took over the editorship in 1853, the magazine became brighter and attained a circulation of 40,000. Unlike his predecessors, Clark included fictional pieces and made the Repository a magazine for the whole family. After the war it began to decline and in 1876 was replaced by the National Repository. The Ladies' Repository was an excellent representative of the Methodist mind and heart. Its essays, sketches, and poems, its good steel engravings, and its moral tone gave it a charm all its own. -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.

Someone will pick you up eventually.” Sweet, sincere, and painfully funny, This is Ridiculous, This is Amazing is ideal for parents who could use a laugh—and isn’t that every single one of them? “His blog is great, but his first book is even better.” —Parade “Parents will appreciate Good’s offbeat outlook and quirky one-liners.” —Publishers Weekly
