Book Russian Grammar

Download or read book Russian Grammar written by John Dyneley Prince and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Russian Grammar: For Class and Reference Use, a Progressive Method of Learning Russian The living Slavonic languages are Russian, Polish, Czecho-Slovak, Serbo-Croatian, Slovene, Wendish and Bulgarian, all so closely related that a knowledge of any one of them is a key to an easy comprehension of all the others. The Russian language is difficult and at first sight, irregular, and yet many obstacles disappear when the student becomes familiar with the phonetics and the grammatical basis. Russian is hard to acquire at first, mainly owing to the somewhat confusing phonetics; viz., the unlikeness of many sounds to those of English and the changes in spelling of numerous forms, when certain sounds are combined. Added to this is the fact that the accent does not fall regularly on any one syllable, but moves in the inflected forms of the same word so arbitrarily, that the stress of each form must be learned rather by association than by memorizing. In the present grammar, the compiler has tried to lead the learner more briefly than has been done in some other grammars of Russian, by progressive steps through the mazes of Russian morphology. Most of the examples given are intended for reference and not to be learned by heart at the outset. No attempt has been made to expound the higher style, poetical metre, etc., as these can be learned only after the beginner is well equipped grammatically. It is absolutely necessary to train students first in the accidence, teaching them to recognize and use, both by sight and sound, the inflections and conjugations. This has been attempted in the present work by means of exercises in Russian at the close of each lesson. Book Russian Book 4 Russian Through Poems and Paintings

Download or read book Russian Book 4 Russian Through Poems and Paintings written by Mark Pettus and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Book 4 in a new series of Russian language textbooks that began with Russian Through Propaganda. This volume continues with in-depth coverage of intermediate to advanced grammar, with particular emphasis on word formation: how Russian takes simple roots and, with prefixes and suffixes, builds more nouns, verbs, and adjectives from them. By grouping verbs and other words into families, and learning specifically how Russian borrows foreign words, our knowledge of vocabulary and ability to analyze new vocabulary is greatly expanded, preparing us to tackle a major work of Russian literature: Crime and Punishment. Along with an introduction to Dostoevsky's life and thought, this book features a substantial abridged (but otherwise unedited and unsimplified!) and annotated version of the novel, focusing on the main plot line: the murder, and the quest for redemption. Like Book 3, this volume is full of outstanding Russian poems and paintings, and features exercises, an answer key, and user's dictionary.

In oart, the book goes back to the grammar's "scale and category" roots, but now with the aim of presenting how a descriptive framework illustrating how the analysis of the syntactic structure can reflect the meaning structure. The contents are divided into four sections. Section one gives a brief overview of systematic grammar, including the linguistic system, context of situation, and language fractions. Developing the lexicogrammar, section two considers formal units and their classes, but the principal focus is on section three, which covers the role of units as elements of structure. Section four discusses areas of structural complexity and concludes with several refinements to the analysis format.
