This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Hydrologic Model of Aspen-Conifer Succession in the Western United States The purpose of this study is to formulate a structural watershed hydrologic model that will integrate available knowledge relevant to the hydrologic impacts of aspen to conifer succession. Although Leaf and Brink (1975) have written a rather sophisticated subalpine hydrology model, a fundamental model sensitive to aspects of the hydrologic cycle that may be influenced by vegetation changes would be useful. The model described in this report begins to satisfy that need. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Aspen Succession in the Intermountain West

Download or read book Aspen Succession in the Intermountain West written by Dale L. Bartos and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deterministic model of succession in aspen forests was developed using existing data and intuition. The degree of uncertainty, which was determined by allowing the parameter values to vary at random within limits, was larger than desired. This report presents results of an analysis of model sensitivity to changes in parameter values. These results have indicated areas of needed research. The model responds realistically to various management techniques and could be an aid to resource managers in their decisionmaking process.

Book excerpt: Information about the biology, ecology, and management of quaking aspen on the mountains and plateaus of the interior western United States, and to a lesser extent, Canada, is summarized and discussed. The biology of aspen as a tree species, community relationships in the aspen ecosystem, environments, and factors affecting aspen forests are reviewed. The resources available within and from the aspen forest type, and their past and potential uses are examined. Silvicultural methods and other approaches to managing aspen for various resources and uses are presented.

Book Ecophysiological Mechanisms Underlying Aspen to Conifer Succession

Download or read book Ecophysiological Mechanisms Underlying Aspen to Conifer Succession written by William John Calder and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second study looked at regeneration dynamics of aspen and conifers as forest stands transition from canopy gaps to aspen dominated canopies. We found that as overstory conifer density increases, aspen decrease in density, basal area, and seedling establishment. Conifers were shown to establish closer to aspen as the canopy increased in conifer density. As this proximity relationship extended into the canopy there is increased mortality in both aspen and subalpine fir, suggesting both facilitation and competition.
