This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermilab experiments E731, E773, E799, and E832 are a series of experiments to investigate the physics of CP violation, CPT violation, and rare decays of the neutral kaon system. E731 finished data taking in 1988, during past year the full data set analysis was completed and yielded ({var_epsilon}′/{var_epsilon}){sub 2?}=(7.4 ± 5.2 [stat] ± 2.9 [syst]) × 10−4 . The value favors a high top ark mass value within the Standard Model. E773 tests CPT violation by determining (??){sub 2{pi}} with an accuracy of about 0.5°. Data were taken during the last Fermilab Fixed Target run period between September and November 1991. It is anticipated the data analysis will be finished within a year. E799, with the primary goal of observing direct Cp Violation via searching for the rare decay K{sub L}→ {pi}° l l− (where l = e,??) took test data between November 1991 and January 1992 (Phase 1). Some preliminary results are shown here. E799 (Phase II) and E832 (a follow up experiment of E731) are scheduled to take data after the current Fermilab collider run with a new facility and detector.

I have seen no review comparable to the excellent summary of electric dipole moments by S Barr and W Marciano … the volume offers a generally readable entry into this field for a reader who has a basic background in particle physics.” John F Donoghue Science “… this book performs a very useful service for anyone active or interested in CP violation, both as a source of primary information and as a work of reference.” K J Peach J Phys. Book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays

Download or read book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays written by Sabato Leo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on the final measurement of the flavor-mixing phase in decays of strange-bottom mesons (B_s) into J/psi and phi mesons performed in high-energy proton-antiproton collisions recorded by the Collider Experiment at Fermilab. Interference occurs between direct decays and decays following virtual particle-antiparticle transitions (B_s-antiB_s). The phase difference between transition amplitudes (“mixing phase”) is observable and extremely sensitive to contributions from non-standard-model particles or interactions that may be very hard to detect otherwise – a fact that makes the precise measurement of the B_s mixing phase one of the most important goals of particle physics. The results presented include a precise determination of the mixing phase and a suite of other important supplementary results. All measurements are among the most precise available from a single experiment and provide significantly improved constraints on the phenomenology of new particles and interactions.

The variety of models developed to explain this CP violation are described together with reprints of more recent definitive experiments, and CP violation in the B° system and the electric dipole moment of the neutron is also covered.

Book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements

Download or read book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements written by Markus Röhrken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.

Book CP Violation From Quarks to Leptons

Download or read book CP Violation From Quarks to Leptons written by M. Giorgi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2006-07-25 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time after the discovery in 1964, by Christenson, Cronin, Fitch and Turlay, that the long-lived neutral kaon decays both into three and into two pions, which has since been taken as proof of CP violation, successive new and more precise experiments confirmed the original evidence and provided results compatible with a phenomenological description confining the CP violation to the mixing between neutral kaons and antikaons. However the Standard Model, with three generations of quarks, linking as it does CP violation to the presence of a single non trivial phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix, implies that if CP violation exists at all, then it is a general property of weak interactions, appearing in transitions were amplitudes involving all three quark families interfere with each other, producing effects with a magnitude related to that of the CKM coefficients. This fact has stimulated an impressive amount of theoretical work leading in many cases to precise predictions. This publication reviews the field, from both the theoretical and experimental point of view, while planning for the forthcoming experimentation at LHC and considering possible new facilities for kaon, B meson and neutrino physics. Book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays

Download or read book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays written by Alexander Golossanov and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation and K{sup 0} charge radius were measured using K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}e{sup +}e{sup -} decays. Specifically, a unique CP-violating decay-plane asymmetry was measured along with the parameters of individual contributions to the decay invariant amplitude: (1) CP-conserving magnetic dipole direct emission form factor, (2) CP-conserving K{sup 0} charge radius transition amplitude and (3) an upper limit for the CP-violating electric dipole direct emission amplitude. The measurements were obtained from the data sample accumulated by KTeV experiment at Fermilab. KTeV had two major goals: the measurement of direct CP violation parameter Re({var_epsilon}{prime}/{var_epsilon}) and the study of rare kaon decays. The state of the art detector was constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained by an international collaboration of scientists from fourteen institutions. The K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} e{sup +}e{sup -} data was accumulated over the 1997 and 1999 running periods. During that time hundreds of billions K{sub L} decays took place in the KTeV fiducial decay region.

Book MEASUREMENT OF THE CP VIOLATION PARAMETER THE ABSOLUTE VALUE OF ETA SUB Oo IN K sub L MESON DECAYS TO 2 NEUTRAL PIONS DECAY

Download or read book MEASUREMENT OF THE CP VIOLATION PARAMETER THE ABSOLUTE VALUE OF ETA SUB Oo IN K sub L MESON DECAYS TO 2 NEUTRAL PIONS DECAY written by John K. Liu and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CP-violating decay mode K (sub L) meson decays to 2 neutral pions, has been studied in a spark-chamber experiment at the Princeton-Pennsylvania Accelerator. The transverse-momentum spectrum of gamma-rays observed in a spectrometer was used to separate K (sub L) meson decays to 2 neutral pions, events from the dominant K (sub L) meson decays to 3 pions events from the dominant K (sub L) meson decays to 3 pions decay modes, and these events were then reconstructed kinematically in the K sub L center of mass. Results are given. (Author).
