Book The Chemistry of Electrode Processes

Download or read book The Chemistry of Electrode Processes written by Ilana Fried and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Electrode Processes discusses "electrodics" or the science dealing with the transfer of an electric charge between a solid and liquid phase. This book reviews the applications of electrodics, the history of electrochemistry, and the basic definitions and concepts of the galvanic cell. This text also deals with the rate expressions associated with the different types of electrode reaction mechanism including the passing of Faradaic current, the current-voltage curve, mass transport overpotential, and the influence of surface structure on electrode processes. This book describes the electrode-solution interphase at equilibrium, the properties of such interphase, and the ways it can influence electrode kinetics. Any electrode reaction involves several steps and can be influenced by diffusion, adsorption and other parameters. The techniques to study electrode reactions and the electrode-solution interphase consists of equilibrium measurements, steady state measurement, and transient measurement. This text also describes the significant and potential uses of electrodics in technology which need less expensive equipment compared to using spectrophotometric techniques. This book is suitable chemists, for advanced students in analytical chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and related subjects.

Download or read book Quantum Electrochemistry written by John O'M. Bockris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of this book lies in a time before one of the authors (J. O'M. B.) left the University of Pennsylvania bound for the Flinders University. His collaboration with Dennis Matthews at the University of Pennsylvania had contributed a singular experimental datum to the quantum theory of elec trode processes: the variation of the separation factor with potential, which could only be interpreted in terms of a quantum theory of electrode kinetics. The authors came together as a result of grad~ate work of one of them (S. U. M. K.) on the quantum mechanics and photo aspects of elec trode processes, and this book was written during a postdoctoral fellowship held by him at the Flinders University. Having stated the book's origin, it is worthwhile stating the rational izations the authors had for writing it. Historically, quantization in elec trochemistry began very early (1931) in the applications of the quantum theory to chemistry. (See the historical table on pages xviii-xix.) There was thereafter a cessation of work on the quantum theory in electrochemistry until a continuum dielectric viewpoint, based on Born's equation for solvation energy, began to be developed in the 1950s and snowballed during the 1960s.

Book Electrochemical Process Engineering

Download or read book Electrochemical Process Engineering written by F. Goodridge and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the subtitle indicates, the overriding intention of the authors has been to provide a practical guide to the design of electrolytic plant. We wanted to show that the procedures for the design and optimization of such a plant are essentially simple and can be performed by readers comparatively new to the electrochemical field. It was important to realize that electrochemical engineering should not be confused with applied electrochemistry but had to be based on the principles of chemical engineering. For this reason, reference is often made to standard chemical engineering texts. Since this is a practical guide rather than a textbook, we have included a large number of worked examples on the principle that a good worked example is worth many paragraphs of text. In some examples we have quoted costs, e.g., of chemicals, plant or services. These costs are merely illustrative; current values will have to be obtained from manufacturers or journals. If this is not possible, approximate methods are available for updating costs to present-day values (see Refs. 1 and 3, Chapter 6).

Book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry written by Peter Horsman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now time for a comprehensive treatise to look at the whole field of electrochemistry. The present treatise was conceived in 1974, and the earliest invitations to authors for contributions were made in 1975. The completion of the early volumes has been delayed by various factors. There has been no attempt to make each article emphasize the most recent situation at the expense of an overall statement of the modern view. This treatise is not a collection of articles from Recent Advances in Electro chemistry or Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry. It is an attempt at making a mature statement about the present position in the vast area of what is best looked at as a new interdisciplinary field. Texas A & M University John O'M. Bockris University of Ottawa Brian E. Conway Case Western Reserve University Ernest B. Yeager Texas A & M University Ralph E. White Preface to VoluIJJe 8 The past three decades have seen the rapid evolution of the transport aspects of electrochemical engineering into a formal part of electrochemistry as well as chemical engineering. With minor exceptions, however, this subject has not been systematically covered in any treatise or recent electrochemical text. The editors believe that the treatment in this volume will serve the function.

Book Principles and Applications of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Principles and Applications of Electrochemistry written by D.R. Crow and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to the principles and application of electrochemistry is presented in a manner designed for undergraduates in chemistry and related fields. The author covers the essential aspects of the subject and points the way to further study, his concern being with the overall shape of electrochemistry, its coherence and its wider application. This edition differs from its predecessors in having principles and applications separated, and greater prominence is given to areas such as electrochemical sensors and electroanalytical techniques, of which a number of modern methods were not included in previous editions. A range of numerical problems and outline solutions is provided for each chapter to cover most situations that a student might encounter.

Download or read book Electrocrystallization written by Alexander Milchev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Electrocrystallization is a particular case of a first order phase transition” and “Electrocrystallization is a particular case of electrochemical kinetics” are two statements that I have heard and read many times. I do not like them for a simple reason: it is annoying to see that the subject to which you have devoted more than 30 years of your life may be considered as a “particular case”. Therefore, I decided to write this book in which Electrocrystallization is the main subject. To become competent in the field of Electrocrystallization one should possess knowledge of Electrochemistry, Nucleation and Crystal Growth, which means knowledge of Physical Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. That is certainly difficult and in most cases those who study Electrocrystallization are either more electrochemists, or more physical chemists, or more physicists, very often depending on whom has been their teacher. Of course, there are scientists who consider themselves equally good in all those fields. Very frequently they are, unfortunately, equally bad. The difference is essential but strange enough, it is sometimes not easy to realize the truth immediately.
