Download or read book Nursery Manual for Native Plants written by R. Kasten Dumroese and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2001, the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), through its Virtual Center for Reforestation, Nurseries, and Genetics Resources (RNGR), invited Native Americans from across the United States to attend the Western Forest and Conservation Nursery Association annual meeting. About 25 tribal members, representing 20 tribes, attended the meeting at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. The following year, a similar meeting was held in Olympia, Washington, and tribal members initiated a Tribal Nursery Council and requested that RNGR facilitate the organization. During 2003, RNGR requested information from 560 tribes across the United States, seeking specific information on tribes' needs for native plants, facilities, training, and so on. Results from the responding 77 tribes were incorporated into the Tribal Nursery Needs Assessment. Based on the results of that questionnaire, and input from tribal members attending the 2003 Intertribal Nursery Council meeting in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, it was agreed that a nursery handbook was needed. That fall, planning began for writing the manual, loosely based on Agriculture Handbook 674, The Container Tree Nursery Manual, but with special attention to the uniqueness of Native American cultures.

Download or read book So You Want to Start a Nursery written by Tony Avent and published by Timber Press. This book was released on 2003-07-11 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Avent announced that he was quitting his job to build a specialty nursery, his former horticulture professor begged his student to reconsider, telling him he couldn't possibly make a profit "without doing something illegal." More than ten years and 20 nursery catalogs later, Avent owns a thriving national business with nearly 30 employees. He wrote So You Want to Start a Nursery to debunk myths about the ornamental-plants nursery business and what it takes to succeed, whether you're a backyard hobbyist or a wholesale grower. (And he still has a clean arrest record.) Assuming that the reader has some basic knowledge about how plants are grown, Avent focuses on the business and planning concerns of the nursery owner. While recounting humorous stories of his baptism by fire as a beginning nurseryman, Avent also provides a primer on the nursery industry as a whole, with discussions of the merits and disadvantages of retail, wholesale, mail-order, and liner operations, to name just a few. Readers of this book will obtain the tools they need to make a business plan of their own. This book is a must-read for horticulture students, industry insiders, and advanced gardeners who dream of turning their passion for plants into a job they love.
Download or read book Qualitative Market Research written by Wendy Gordon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book opens the black box of qualitative market research and reveals the inner workings of the qualitative process. The influence of group dynamics on the data itself, the significance of body language in the interaction between researcher and respondent and the application of techniques to discover the private world of the individual are all exposed. So too, is the least visible part of all research projects - the interpretation of content given the fact that people often 'don't say what they mean' and 'don't mean what they say'. This book brings together a detailed overview of procedures and techniques in contemporary qualitative market research. These evolving techniques are making qualitative research increasingly influential. A clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses is therefore vital to anyone involved in research - whether market, industrial, social, governmental or medical.
