Book A Global View of Financial Accounting

Download or read book A Global View of Financial Accounting written by Roger Hussey and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2022-07-13 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we discuss the specific pressures and decisions that influences the changes in corporate reporting The importance of corporate financial reporting has increased over the years. Accountants have developed standards that ensure the financial information issued by companies is rigorous and assists the users of the information in making decisions. Initially counties developed their own standards but the increase in world-wide trade demonstrated the need for an international approach to standard setting. This led to the establishment of International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the issue of international accounting standards. Although accounting standards originally focused on financial information that would be of interest to investors in a company, there is an increasing interest in all corporate activities that shape the way we live. In this book we discuss the specific pressures and decisions that influences the changes in corporate reporting with emphasis given to the U.K., the United Sates and Islamic countries. We also discuss the impact of advances in technology on corporate reporting and we review the nature of information provided by companies to a wider audience than shareholders.

Book The Global Findex Database 2017

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011 the World Bank—with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—launched the Global Findex database, the world's most comprehensive data set on how adults save, borrow, make payments, and manage risk. Drawing on survey data collected in collaboration with Gallup, Inc., the Global Findex database covers more than 140 economies around the world. The initial survey round was followed by a second one in 2014 and by a third in 2017. Compiled using nationally representative surveys of more than 150,000 adults age 15 and above in over 140 economies, The Global Findex Database 2017: Measuring Financial Inclusion and the Fintech Revolution includes updated indicators on access to and use of formal and informal financial services. It has additional data on the use of financial technology (or fintech), including the use of mobile phones and the Internet to conduct financial transactions. The data reveal opportunities to expand access to financial services among people who do not have an account—the unbanked—as well as to promote greater use of digital financial services among those who do have an account. The Global Findex database has become a mainstay of global efforts to promote financial inclusion. In addition to being widely cited by scholars and development practitioners, Global Findex data are used to track progress toward the World Bank goal of Universal Financial Access by 2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The database, the full text of the report, and the underlying country-level data for all figures—along with the questionnaire, the survey methodology, and other relevant materials—are available at www.worldbank.org/globalfindex.

Book Corporate Financial Reporting

Download or read book Corporate Financial Reporting written by Hervé Stolowy and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 2002 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial Accounting and Reporting courses today need to recognize both the diversity of national traditions and the trend towards accounting harmonization. The profile of students in Financial Accounting courses in European and international business programs is changing. Student bodies are now real melting pots of cultures. English has become the lingua franca of business for most MBA and many undergraduate students. More and more business programs are taught in part or completely in International English. Students today need to be trained to appreciate, understand and analyze a variety of Accounting and Reporting problems from a theoretical and pragmatic point of view, rather than just memorize the local regulatory solution prescribed in one given country or context. Corporate Financial Reporting: A Global Perspective provides an introduction to financial accounting for todayÂ's international business student. It provides a user perspective. Financial Accounting and Reporting is a universal knowledge base required from all students intending to become economic actors. Whether they will use accounting and financial information as internal managers or executives, or as external users (investors, credit analysts, etc.) they will need to interpret accounting data. Rather than providing a regulatory solution to a reporting or measurement issue, Corporate Financial Reporting examines the economic logic of the problem and identifies generic possible solutions and shows the impact each might have on a companyÂ's or decision makerÂ's decisions. Rather than adopting a Â'nationalÂ' approach to accounting issues, Corporate Financial Reporting offers an international perspective, guiding students through IAS, US GAAP and different local standards where they provide an interesting and relevant lesson.

Book The Economics and Politics of Accounting

Download or read book The Economics and Politics of Accounting written by Christian Leuz and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-09-15 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accounting and the role of accountants has permeated the modern societies. For the most part we have accepted the impartiality and objectivity of accounting and not recognized how accounting systems are embedded in a country's economic and legal framework, much of which is in turn shaped by political processes. This web of interactions results in complex economic and political questions which require accounting researchers to focus on several related trends: information economics, regulatory economics, sociology, and political science. Although considerable progress has been made in the field of accounting, many fundamental questions are still subject to debate. In this book leading international scholars address a number of important questions: · What is the role of accounting in security valuation, decision making and contracting? · What can we learn from economics-based research in accounting? · What is the role of auditing and how can accounting standards be enforced? · What are the cost and benefits of accounting and disclosure regulation? · What is the role of accounting in society? · How does lobbying affect the political process of standard setting? · What are the consequences of the internationalization of standard setting? This seminal book will be of interest to academics, researchers, and graduate students of Accounting, Finance, Business Studies, Sociology, and Political Economy.
