Download or read book The Study of Agricultural Geography written by Thomas A. Rumney and published by Rlpg/Galleys. This book was released on 2005 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural geography is defined as the study of the geographical and locational attributes, patterns, and processes of crop and animal farming, and related subjects such as farm land, farm-associated human geographers, environmental issues, and theoretical works on the location of agricultural activities. The study of agricultural geography has produced a large amount of literature. This volume records and presents, in an organized manner, as much as possible of this literature. The entries of this compendium are written in a wide array of languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, Russian and others in order to provide the widest coverage possible. The entries include atlases, books, book chapters, scholarly articles from professional journals, conference proceedings, doctoral dissertations, and master's theses. Over 12,000 entries have been recorded here, with the hope that such references will encourage and support the work of students, faculty, and other users.

Download or read book Strategic Planning for the Florida Citrus Industry written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-05-15 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Citrus greening, a disease that reduces yield, compromises the flavor, color, and size of citrus fruit and eventually kills the citrus tree, is now present in all 34 Floridian citrus-producing counties. Caused by an insect-spread bacterial infection, the disease reduced citrus production in 2008 by several percent and continues to spread, threatening the existence of Florida's $9.3 billion citrus industry. A successful citrus greening response will focus on earlier detection of diseased trees, so that these sources of new infections can be removed more quickly, and on new methods to control the insects that carry the bacteria. In the longerterm, technologies such as genomics could be used to develop new citrus strains that are resistant to both the bacteria and the insect.

Download or read book Citrus Production written by Sajjad Hussain and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The citrus industry is one of the world's most important fruit production industries, but global climate change, pests, diseases, and improper handling are affecting plant yields. Citrus Production: Technological Advancements and Adaptation to Changing Climate presents information on advancements in the citrus industry examining various aspects of citrus from its production to harvest. It looks at the challenges and approaches in stress tolerance improvements, increasing citrus crop productivity, and reducing postharvest losses. The book details taxonomy, genetic diversity, and metabolic and molecular responses in citrus crops, as well as abiotic and biotic stresses affecting citrus production. Featuring numerous full-color illustrations throughout, this book poses new harvesting techniques along with postharvest physiology of citrus fruits, devising strategies to prevent crop losses. Citrus Production: Technological Advancements and Adaptation to Changing Climate is an essential resource for researchers, academicians, and scientists looking to expand their knowledge of citrus, particularly horticulturists, food scientists, and botanists.
