Book A Framework for the Representation Acquisition and Manipulation of Strategic Knowledge for Knowledge Based Systems

Download or read book A Framework for the Representation Acquisition and Manipulation of Strategic Knowledge for Knowledge Based Systems written by Khaled W. al- Dhaher and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The representation method, strategy schemata, possesses features that are similar to several other representation methodologies. It captures inter-strategy knowledge, such as structural and inheritance relationships that are useful in the acquisition and refinement processes outlined by the paradigm. The nature of these schemata coupled with the reasoning methods explicitly associated with them, differentiate them from other representation and associated reasoning methodologies."

Book Exemplar Based Knowledge Acquisition

Download or read book Exemplar Based Knowledge Acquisition written by Ray Bareiss and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exemplar-Based Knowledge Acquisition: A Unified Approach to Concept Representation, Classification, and Learning covers the fundamental issues in cognitive science and the technology for solving real problems. This text contains six chapters and begins with a description of the rationale for the design of Protos Approach, its construction and performance. The succeeding chapters discuss how the Protos approach meets the requirements of representing concepts, using them for classification, and acquiring them from available training. These chapters also deal with the design and implementation of Protos. These topics are followed by a presentation of examples of the application of Protos to audiology and evaluate its performance. The final chapters survey related work in the areas of case-based reasoning and automated knowledge acquisition and the contributions of Protos approach. This book will be of great value to psychologists, psychiatrists, and researchers in the field of artificial intelligence.

Book The Acquisition of Strategic Knowledge

Download or read book The Acquisition of Strategic Knowledge written by Thomas R. Gruber and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Acquisition of Strategic Knowledge deals with the automation of the acquisition of strategic knowledge and describes a knowledge acquisition program called ASK, which elicits strategic knowledge from domain experts and puts it in operational form. This book explores the dynamics of intelligent systems and how the components of knowledge systems (including a human expert) interact to produce intelligence. Emphasis is placed on how to represent knowledge that experts require to make decisions about actions. The move toward abstract tasks and how tasks are solved are discussed, along with their implications for knowledge acquisition, particularly the acquisition of expert strategies. This book is comprised of eight chapters and begins with an overview of the knowledge acquisition problem for strategic knowledge, as well as the relevance of strategic knowledge to artificial intelligence. The next chapter describes a dialog session between the ASK knowledge acquisition assistant and the user (""the expert""). The discussion then turns to software architecture with which to represent strategic knowledge; design and implementation of an assistant for acquiring strategic knowledge; and approaches to knowledge acquisition. Two applications of the ASK system are considered: to evaluate the usability of the elicitation technique with real users and to test the adequacy of the strategy rule representation upon which the approach is dependent. The scope of ASK, its sources of power, and its underlying assumptions are also outlined. This monograph will be a valuable resource for knowledge systems designers and those interested in artificial intelligence and expert systems.

Book The Knowledge Acquisition and Representation Language KARL

Download or read book The Knowledge Acquisition and Representation Language KARL written by Dieter Fensel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the framework of so-called second generation expert systems [62] knowledge modeling is one of the most important aspects. On the one hand, knowledge acquisition is no longer seen as a knowledge transfer process, rather it is now considered as model construction process which is typically a cyclic and error prone process. On the other hand, the distinction between knowledge and symbol level descriptions [166] resulted in various proposals for conceptual knowledge models describing knowledge in an implementation independent way. One of the most prominent examples of such a conceptual model is the KADS model of expertise which is characterized by its clear distinction of different know ledge types and by the usage of specific modeling primitives to describe these different knowledge types [185]. The semi formal KADS expertise model entails all the advantages and disadvantages which have been identified for semi-formal system models e.g. in the software engineering community.

Book Knowledge Based Systems Four Volume Set

Download or read book Knowledge Based Systems Four Volume Set written by Cornelius T. Leondes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-07-11 with total page 1554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of knowledge systems is finding myriad applications from corporate databases to general decision support in areas as diverse as engineering, manufacturing and other industrial processes, medicine, business, and economics. In engineering, for example, knowledge bases can be utilized for reliable electric power system operation. In medicine they support complex diagnoses, while in business they inform the process of strategic planning. Programmed securities trading and the defeat of chess champion Kasparov by IBM's Big Blue are two familiar examples of dedicated knowledge bases in combination with an expert system for decision-making.With volumes covering "Implementation," "Optimization," "Computer Techniques," and "Systems and Applications," this comprehensive set constitutes a unique reference source for students, practitioners, and researchers in computer science, engineering, and the broad range of applications areas for knowledge-based systems.

Book Explicit Representations of Problem solving Strategies to Support Knowledge Acquisition

Download or read book Explicit Representations of Problem solving Strategies to Support Knowledge Acquisition written by University of Southern California. Information Sciences Institute and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Role-limiting approaches support knowledge acquisition (KA) by centering knowledge base construction on common types of tasks or domain-independent problem-solving strategies. Within a particular problem-solving strategy, domain-dependent knowledge plays specific roles. A KA tool then helps a user to fill these roles. Although role-limiting approaches are useful for guiding KA, they are limited because they only support users in filling knowledge roles that have been built in by the designers of the KA system. EXPECT takes a different approach to KA by representing problem-solving knowledge explicitly, and deriving from the current knowledge base the knowledge gaps that must be resolved by the user during KA. This paper contrasts role-limiting approaches and EXPECT's approach, using the propose-and-revise strategy as an example. EXPECT not only supports users in filling knowledge roles, but also provides support in 1) adapting the problem-solving strategy, 2) changing the types of information to be acquired about a knowledge role, 3) adding new knowledge roles, and 4) acquiring additional background information about the domain needed by the knowledge-based system. EXPECT's guidance changes as the knowledge base changes, providing a more flexible approach to knowledge acquisition. This work provides evidence supporting the need for explicit representations in building knowledge-based systems."
