Download or read book Quality of Future Internet Services written by Mikhail I. Smirnov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2001 International Workshop on Quality of future Internet Services (QofIS 2001) held in Coimbra, Portugal, organized by COST Action 263, is the second of what we expect will become a series of successful QofIS workshops. The previous workshop was held in Berlin in the year 2000. The areas of interest of QofIS cover the design, implementation and provision of Quality of Service, spanning key issues of current and emerging communication systems such as packet-level issues, flow-level issues, network-level issues, architectural issues, and applications. The emphasis of the QofIS2001 w orkshop is on horizontal (end-to-end) as well as vertical (top-down) provision of quality of services, covering all components of end systems and networks, with the aim of identifying solutions enabling feasible and coherent QoS provision. The QofIS2001 cal l for papers attracted 87 submissions from 23 Asian, Australian, European, North American, and South American countries. These were subject to thorough review work by the Programme Committee members and additional reviewers who carried out their work using a specially built conference system, WebChairing, developed in Coimbra by Flor de Utopia, that allowed full control of the submission and reviewing processes. Based on the comments and recommendations of the reviews, the final programme was defined in a Programme th Committee meeting held at the University of Karlsruhe on June 5 , 2001.

Download or read book Interactive Distributed Multimedia Systems and Telecommunication Services written by Michel Diaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-23 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1999 International Workshop on Interactive Distributed Multimedia Sys tems and Telecommunication Services (IDMS) in Toulouse is the sixth in a se ries that started in 1992. The previous workshops were held in Stuttgart in 1992, Hamburg in 1994, Berlin in 1996, Darmstadt in 1997, and Oslo in 1998. The area of interest of IDMS ranges from basic system technologies, such as networking and operating system support, to all kinds of teleservices and distributed multimedia applications. Technical solutions for telecommunications and distributed multimedia systems are merging and quality-of-service (QoS) will play a key role in both areas. However, the range from basic system tech nologies to distributed mutlimedia applications and teleservices is still very broad and we have to understand the implications of multimedia applications and their requirements for middleware and networks. We are challenged to develop new and more fitting solutions for all distributed multimedia systems and telecom munication services to meet the requirements of the future information society.

Download or read book Network Control and Engineering for QoS Security and Mobility written by Dominique Gaïti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Service and network providers must be able to satisfy the demands for new services; improve the quality of service; reduce the cost of network service operations and maintenance; control performance; and adapt to user demands. It is essential to investigate different approaches for performing such tasks. One of these approaches is based on policies and the capability of the network to adapt itself to current conditions. With a focus on policy-based networking, this volume addresses the problem of network control and the introduction of policies such as the control of the Quality of Service, security, mobility, performance, mobile and intelligent agents, and traffic engineering. The area of control in networks through policies promises to provide stimulating challenges for years to come. This book is an attempt to answer questions and provide some direction about the best approaches to be followed. This volume contains the proceedings of the first International Conference on NETwork CONtrol and Engineering (NETCON) for Quality of Service, Security and Mobility, which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), and organized by IFIP TC6 Working Group 6.7 (Smart Networks). The conference convened in Paris, France in October 2002.

Download or read book E Commerce and Web Technologies written by Kurt Bauknecht and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Conference on E-commerce and Web Technology (EC-Web 2002) was held in conjunction with the DEXA 02 in Aix-en-Provence, France. This conference, first held in Greenwich, United Kingdom in 2000, is now in its third year and is very well established. As in the two previous years, it served as a forum bringing together researchers from academia and commercial developers from industry to discuss the current state of the art in E-commerce and web technology. Inspirations and new ideas emerged from intensive discussions during formal sessions and social events. Keynote addresses, research presentations, and discussions during the conference helped to further develop the exchange of ideas among the researchers, developers, and practitioners who attended. The conference attracted more than 100 submissions and each paper was reviewed by at least three program committee members. The program committee selected 40 papers for presentation and publication, a task which was not easy due to the high quality of the submitted papers. We would like to express our thanks to our colleagues who helped to put together the technical program: the program committee members and external reviewers for their timely and rigorous reviews of the papers, and the organizing committee for their help in the administrative work and support. We owe special thanks to Gabriela Wagner and Maria Schweikert for always being available when their helping hand was needed.
