Book Selected Works of E L Lehmann

Download or read book Selected Works of E L Lehmann written by Javier Rojo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-14 with total page 1104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes present a selection of Erich L. Lehmann’s monumental contributions to Statistics. These works are multifaceted. His early work included fundamental contributions to hypothesis testing, theory of point estimation, and more generally to decision theory. His work in Nonparametric Statistics was groundbreaking. His fundamental contributions in this area include results that came to assuage the anxiety of statisticians that were skeptical of nonparametric methodologies, and his work on concepts of dependence has created a large literature. The two volumes are divided into chapters of related works. Invited contributors have critiqued the papers in each chapter, and the reprinted group of papers follows each commentary. A complete bibliography that contains links to recorded talks by Erich Lehmann – and which are freely accessible to the public – and a list of Ph.D. students are also included. These volumes belong in every statistician’s personal collection and are a required holding for any institutional library.

Book Reminiscences of a Statistician

Download or read book Reminiscences of a Statistician written by Erich L. Lehmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-26 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This relatively nontechnical book is the first account of the history of statistics from the Fisher revolution to the computer revolution. It sketches the careers, and highlights some of the work, of 65 people, most of them statisticians. What gives the book its special character is its emphasis on the author's interaction with these people and the inclusion of many personal anecdotes. Combined, these portraits provide an amazing fly-on-the-wall view of statistics during the period in question. The stress is on ideas and technical material is held to a minimum. Thus the book is accessible to anyone with at least an elementary background in statistics.

Book Studies in Econometrics Time Series and Multivariate Statistics

Download or read book Studies in Econometrics Time Series and Multivariate Statistics written by Samuel Karlin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in Econometrics, Time Series, and Multivariate Statistics covers the theoretical and practical aspects of econometrics, social sciences, time series, and multivariate statistics. This book is organized into three parts encompassing 28 chapters. Part I contains studies on logit model, normal discriminant analysis, maximum likelihood estimation, abnormal selection bias, and regression analysis with a categorized explanatory variable. This part also deals with prediction-based tests for misspecification in nonlinear simultaneous systems and the identification in models with autoregressive errors. Part II highlights studies in time series, including time series analysis of error-correction models, time series model identification, linear random fields, segmentation of time series, and some basic asymptotic theory for linear processes in time series analysis. Part III contains papers on optimality properties in discrete multivariate analysis, Anderson's probability inequality, and asymptotic distributions of test statistics. This part also presents the comparison of measures, multivariate majorization, and of experiments for some multivariate normal situations. Studies on Bayes procedures for combining independent F tests and the limit theorems on high dimensional spheres and Stiefel manifolds are included. This book will prove useful to statisticians, mathematicians, and advance mathematics students.

Book Dynamic Graphics Statistics

Download or read book Dynamic Graphics Statistics written by Cleveland and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-07-08 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essential characteristic of a dynamic graphical method is the direct manipulation of elements of a graph on a computer screen, which in high-performance implementations, the elements change virtually instantaneously on the screen. This book contains a collection of papers about dynamic graphics dating from the late 1960s to 1988. Although technology has advanced considerably, the fundamental ideas about basic graphical principles and data-analytic goals are still relevant today.

Book Hellenistic Athletes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sebastian Scharff
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2024-03-20
  • ISBN : 100919996X
  • Pages : 386 pages

Download or read book Hellenistic Athletes written by Sebastian Scharff and published by . This book was released on 2024-03-20 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of Hellenistic athletics from the perspective of the victors. By analyzing agonistic epigrams as poetry on commission, it investigates how successful athletes and horse owners and their sponsors wanted their victories to be understood. Based on the identification of recurring motifs that exceed the conventions of the genre, a multiplicity of agonistic cultures is detected on three different levels - those of the polis, the region and the empire. Kings and queens used athletics in order to legitimate their rule, cities tried to compensate for military defeats by agonistic successes, and victorious aristocrats created virtual halls of fame to emphasize their common regional identity. Without a doubt, athletic victories represented far more than just leisure activities of Hellenistic noblemen. They clearly mattered in terms of politics and social status.

Book Mesopotamia in the Ancient World

Download or read book Mesopotamia in the Ancient World written by Robert Rollinger and published by Ugarit-Verlag. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Melammu Project, founded in 1998, organized five successive conferences and a sixth in 2008. Melammu Symposia 7 now represents a new dawn for the project publishing the contributions of the meeting in Obergurgl in November 2013. This time it will not be an isolated event: Further conferences have already taken place and been planned (Kiel 2014, Helsinki and Tartu 2015, Kassel 2016, and Beirut 2017), the project board has been renewed, reinvigorated and rejuvenated, and plans are underway for a thorough reworking and updating of the project database. Its focus (now slightly reworded to be somewhat wider) is to investigate "the continuity, transformation and diffusion of Mesopotamian and Ancient Near Eastern culture from the third millennium BCE through the ancient world until Islamic times" (quoted from the Melammu Project website). Of course, Mesopotamia was not the source of all culture; but it was an important area in ancient history, that without doubt deserves such a project, dedicated to the study of its cultural impact and heritage. This volume assembles 42 contributions devoted to the topics "Prayers and Incantations", "Foreign Reception of Mesopotamian Objects", "The Use of Literary Figures of Speech", "Mesopotamia and the World", "The World of Politics", "Iran and Early Islam", and "Representations of Power".
