Book A Fallen Idol Is Still a God

Download or read book A Fallen Idol Is Still a God written by Elizabeth Allen and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2006-10-26 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Fallen Idol Is Still a God elucidates the historical distinctiveness and significance of the seminal nineteenth-century Russian poet, playwright, and novelist Mikhail Iurevich Lermontov (1814-1841). It does so by demonstrating that Lermontov's works illustrate the condition of living in an epoch of transition. Lermontov's particular epoch was that of post-Romanticism, a time when the twilight of Romanticism was dimming but the dawn of Realism had yet to appear. Through close and comparative readings, the book explores the singular metaphysical, psychological, ethical, and aesthetic ambiguities and ambivalences that mark Lermontov's works, and tellingly reflect the transition out of Romanticism and the nature of post-Romanticism. Overall, the book reveals that, although confined to his transitional epoch, Lermontov did not succumb to it; instead, he probed its character and evoked its historical import. And the book concludes that Lermontov's works have resonance for our transitional era in the early twenty-first century as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and how the Arabs and Europeans took these Afrikan Religious Belief Systems from ancient Egypt, North Afrika and used them during The Trans-Sahara Afrikan Slave Trade by the Arabs in the name of Allah, and followed by The Transatlantic Afrikan Slave Trade by the Europeans in the name of Jesus, to enslave the bodies, minds, and souls of the Afrikan Race. This book is about the Jesus Deception that has been passed on down through history by European historians, that is still being taught around the world today. This book takes a provocative intellectual, scholastic, historical, cultural, and sociological look at the Bible. This book identifies the names of the translators of the King James Bible of 1611 A. D., and when the chapters and verses in the Bible were created and who created them. The purpose of this book is to expose the historical, cultural, sociological, religious and theological lies of the Europeans and the Arabs. This book reveals the truth of the origination of The Bible, as There Is No Religion Higher Than The Truth. Join me in an intellectual odyssey through time. Here, I feel like a Lone Warrior standing before a mighty army. Come with me on this perilous pilgrimage as we travel through a parallel universe. I dedicate this book to my mother and father who gave me life. To the rest of my Native Afrikan family for supporting me and encouraging me on this publishing venture. To the Heavenly Father, without whom none of this would be possible. There are others I would also like to thank for being a part of helping me through this journey called Life, such as my professors at the Alabama State University where many a great scholars paths I have crossed. To my American family and friends in Mobile, Alabama who nurtured and taught me from childhood to adulthood. The many friends and colleagues I met in my travels all across America in my intellectual journey, and last but certainly not least, to my publisher for granting me the opportunity to speak to many all around the world in this forum. I am eternally indebted to you all-Thank you.

Book excerpt: A glimpse into unlikely love braved in the face of the void. On the airwaves, all the talk is of the new blue planet–pristine and habitable, like our own 65 million years ago, before we took it to the edge of destruction. And off the air, Billie and Spike are falling in love. What will happen when their story combines with the world’s story, as they whirl towards Planet Blue, into the future? Will they–and we–ever find a safe landing place? Of immense imaginary and emotional scope, The Stone Gods is Jeanette Winterson at her prescient, playful, muscular best. An interplanetary love story, a traveller’s tale, a hymn to the beauty of the world, this is a novel that will change forever the stories we tell about the earth, about love and about stories themselves.

Book A Commentary on the Gospel of John

Download or read book A Commentary on the Gospel of John written by Stanley C. Polski and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-30 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Commentary on the Gospel of John is an exciting, startling new study by a lay philosopher who may be described as “an uncommon common man.” Though detailed and scholarly, his work is excitingly readable for every seeker of insights. And isn’t that all of us? His writing provides a fresh, provocative, yet reverent look at Jesus as he is revealed through John’s writings and the author’s interpretation. The author quotes the Gospel of John a few verses at a time–and then explores these quotations with a commentary: though deeply religious he manages to relate them to world leaders and politicians against the backdrop of the classic philosophers. Some of his views are outrageous, but he provides a touchstone that believers, seekers, and doubters may use as a basis for their own religious journeys. This is a book valuable for both the secular and religious communities.

Book Musings of a Christian Physician on the Physical and Spiritual Healing of Man

Download or read book Musings of a Christian Physician on the Physical and Spiritual Healing of Man written by Joseph DeMay MD FAAP and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had always believed in the healing power of our Lord, and viewed my life as one of service to Him via the practice of medicine. But, in retrospect, I had a deeper trust in the power of modern medicine and science than I did in Jesus Christ and His fully accomplished work on the Cross. My thinking was flawed, but, as I grew in my walk with the Lord and meditated on Scripture more fully, I began to see the superiority of faith over the limited interventions modern medical science had to offer, and that this interplay between faith and science was not mutually exclusive, but complimentary, for the spiritual aspects of our lives illuminate and empower the carnal aspects of intellect and physical senses. I began jotting notes to myself related to this interplay of faith and healing and science, and just filed them away...for years. IThen, in December of 2017, a baby was born to a first time mother of mine, his little body riddled with the most fulminant form of acute lymphoblasic leukemia, almost always fatal. His absolutely miraculous healing was the impetus to start putting these thoughts into writing, in the form of weekday morning emails entitled “A Christian Doctor’s View of Healing, Faiith, and Science”. It was soon made clear to me that these writings were to take the form of a year long devotional book, comprised of short weekday messages that are intimately linked, such that they can be read through as a book. And that book was to paint a picture, and that picture was to be of a face, and the face was to be that of Jesus, for He is the source of all healing

Book Russian Postmodernist Fiction

Download or read book Russian Postmodernist Fiction written by Mark Lipovetsky and published by M.E. Sharpe. This book was released on 1999-05-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Lipovetsky takes the reader on a critical tour of twentieth-century Russian literature to develop a specific understanding of Russian postmodernism (Aksyonov, Bitov, Erofeev, Pietsukh, Popov, Sokolov, Tolstaya). In the process he takes on some of the central issues of the critical debate and draws on both Bakhtinian and chaos theory to develop a conception of postmodern poetics as a dialogue with chaos. Lipovetsky concludes by placing Russian literature in the context of this enriched postmodernism. An appendix with extensive bibliographical notes on contemporary Russian writers and literary theorists complements the study. --First comprehensive study of Russian postmodernism --Develops original contributions to postmodernist theory --Provides detailed analysis of the most representative texts of Russian postmodernism --Places Russian postmodernism in the context of European and North and Latin American postmodernism --Includes an appendix of biographical and bibliographic information on contemporary Russian writers.
