Book The Decrees of the Vatican Council

Download or read book The Decrees of the Vatican Council written by Rev. Vincent McNabb O.P. and published by Aeterna Press. This book was released on with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In presenting to the English reading public “The Decrees of the Vatican Council” we make no apology for calling it the “best book” and most valuable religious relic left to the twentieth century by the nineteenth. It is somewhat surprising that collections of the “hundred best books,” which usually begin with the Bible and generally include Marcus Aurelius, should give no place to the Acts of the General Councils; though mere literary works have done little beyond filling vacant hours, and these Acts have renewed the face of the earth. Book Disputation on the Power of Indulgences

Download or read book Disputation on the Power of Indulgences written by Martin Luther and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ninety-five Theses or Disputation on the Power of Indulgences are a list of propositions for an academic disputation written in 1517 by Martin Luther, professor of moral theology at the University of Wittenberg, Germany, that started the Reformation, a schism in the Catholic Church which profoundly changed Europe. They advance Luther's positions against what he saw as the abuse of the practice of clergy selling plenary indulgences, which were certificates believed to reduce the temporal punishment for sins committed by the purchasers or their loved ones in purgatory. In the Theses, Luther claimed that the repentance required by Christ in order for sins to be forgiven involves inner spiritual repentance rather than merely external sacramental confession. He argued that indulgences led Christians to avoid true repentance and sorrow for sin, believing that they could forgo it by purchasing an indulgence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pope, the Council, and the Mass, the definitive response to ?Traditionalist? Catholics when first published in 1981, has been updated to include the developments from the time of the first publication up to, and including, the beginning of the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI. In addressing the concerns raised by the followers of the late Archbishop Lefebvre and other ?Traditionalists?, the authors give a truly Catholic understanding of Tradition, the Second Vatican Council and its implementation, and the nature of true liturgical reform. This book not only provides the reader with a sound perspective on the past, it also offers insight into the present state of the Church and the outlook for the future. History, canon law, ecclesiastical and papal documents, and Scripture are mined in this solid apologetic for a faith that is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.
