He is also a contributing writer for many Chinese newspapers and magazines around the world. This book is an account of author's own experience teaching in American schools and observations as a teacher and a parent. The cause of the failure of American education is not the schools. The adult-oriented society and the anti-eductaion culture surrounding the schools have been destroying the American education and American children. If they really want to reform their education, Americans must understand that American way that they know is not the only way in the world. American way that has been hurting American education is certainly not the right way. America needs some fresh eyes and views from the different perspectives. That is what this book to offer.

Download or read book A Different View of Curriculum and Assessment for Severe Complex and Profound Learning Disabilities written by Peter Imray and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Different View of Curriculum and Assessment links a theoretical pedagogical model with a sympathetic practical model of curriculum and assessment difference for those with PMLD, CLD and SLD. Split into two parts, this accessible resource combines theoretical explanations with first-hand accounts of how this works in educational establishments, through the analysis of evidence-based practice carried out in a number of English special (specialist) schools. The expert authors challenge the notion that a national, or common core standards, curriculum, however expertly differentiated, is fit-for-purpose for the PMLD, CLD and SLD populations in any country. A Different View offers cogent and reasoned arguments for considering that irrespective of age, such learners learn differently to their neuro-typical, conventionally developing peers. If they learn differently, this book shows how we should be teaching them differently. Reflecting the centrality of process over product, this book will clearly explain how each individual learner might be enabled and facilitated to become the best they can be and do the best they can do, in order to fully realise their potential as equal and independent citizens.

Download or read book The Crane s Walk written by Jeremy Barris and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Crane's Walk, Jeremy Barris seeks to show that we can conceive and live with a pluralism of standpoints with conflicting standards for truth--with the truth of each being entirely unaffected by the truth of the others. He argues that Plato's work expresses this kind of pluralism, and that this pluralism is important in its own right, whether or not we agree about what Plato's standpoint is. The longest tradition of Plato scholarship identifies crucial faults in Plato's theory of Ideas. Barris argues that Plato deliberately displayed those faults, because he wanted to demonstrate that basic kinds of error or illogic have dimensions that are crucial to the establishing of truth. These dimensions legitimate a paradoxical coordination of logically incompatible conceptions of truth. Connecting this idea with emerging currents of Plato scholarship, he emphasizes, in addition to the dialogues' arguments, the importance of their nonargumentative features, including drama, myths, fictions, anecdotes, and humor. These unanalyzed nonargumentative features function rigorously, as a lever with which to examine the enterprise of rational argument itself, without presupposing its standards or illegitimately assimilating any position to the standards of another. Today, communities are torn apart by conflicts within and between a host of different pluralist and absolutist commitments. The possibility developed in this book-a coordination of absolute and relative truth that allows an understanding of some relativist and some absolutist positions as being fully legitimate and as capable of existing in a relation to their opposites-may contribute to perspectives for resolving these conflicts.
