Book Hunger Theory Perspectives and Reality

Download or read book Hunger Theory Perspectives and Reality written by Amitava Mukherjee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunger is an issue which has been subject to much rigorous intellectual examination by economists, philosophers, sociologists, NGOs and governments. This volume provides a critical overview of current academic and political perspectives and then compares these views from thenon-hungry people with those of thehungry particularly from a broad range of poor communities in India. Their views are gathered using participatory rural appraisal techniques and the scale of the material presented is unprecedented. Not surprisingly, the comparisons show that the perceptions of the hungry are fundamentally different from those of the non-hungry. It makes compelling suggestions about how best policy makers can attempt to eliminate hunger based on what the hungry themselves suggest. The book also draws attention to the critical role of Common Property Resources and women in the fight against under-nutrition, which have so far been largely ignored.

Book Emma

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jane Austen
  • Publisher : Editora Landmark LTDA
  • Release : 2012-01-01
  • ISBN : 8588781808
  • Pages : 1005 pages

Download or read book Emma written by Jane Austen and published by Editora Landmark LTDA. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 1005 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Biochemistry of food proteins

Download or read book Biochemistry of food proteins written by B. J. F. Hudson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in the understanding of food protein structure, behaviour and applications continue apace. Many of these have, in the past decade, been reported and evaluated in the series 'Developments in Food Pro teins' , comprising seven volumes, with a total of 55 chapters. The time has now come to re-assess many of the topics reviewed in that series and to add certain others. However, instead of assembling, some what at random, food protein topics from quite disparate fields in indi vidual volumes, we have decided to bring together homogeneous groups of topics, each representing a specific sector of the subject. Under the general theme of 'Progress in Food Proteins' the first of these groups covers 'Biochemistry' . Readers will note that, though six of the topics reviewed in this volume are new, five of them have already featured in 'Developments in Food Proteins'. These last are in active research fields in which new develop ments have been of special significance. In this sense, therefore, they are welcome updates.

Book The Vitamins

    Book Details:
  • Author : J. Marks
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401173214
  • Pages : 207 pages

Download or read book The Vitamins written by J. Marks and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been designed, as its title implies, as a practical book for medical practitioners, although it should be of interest to medical students and nutritionists. It attempts to provide essential information about this important group of substances rather than be an all embracing monograph on the subject. For this reason biochemical and physiological considera tions have been kept to a minimum, and aspects of animal disorders and animal husbandry have not been considered. The material is often presented in a rather dogmatic fashion and, with rare exceptions, references are not included since this makes reading more difficult. The exceptions, where references are provided, are the therapeutic claims, and the series of recent studies which have indicated that vitamin deficiencies are still widely present among certain groups of the population of many industrially developed countries. To add to this reference list there is a reading list which has been selected to give key books, reviews with extensive bibliography and important articles over the past 10 years. From this reading list it is possible to trace most of the literature on the vitamins since they were first described over half a century ago.
