Book The Representation of Cumulus Convection in Numerical Models

Download or read book The Representation of Cumulus Convection in Numerical Models written by Kerry Emanuel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents descriptions of numerical models for testing cumulus in cloud fields. It is divided into six parts. Part I provides an overview of the problem, including descriptions of cumulus clouds and the effects of ensembles of cumulus clouds on mass, momentum, and vorticity distributions. A review of closure assumptions is also provided. A review of "classical" convection schemes in widespread use is provided in Part II. The special problems associated with the representation of convection in mesoscale models are discussed in Part III, along with descriptions of some of the commonly used mesoscale schemes. Part IV covers some of the problems associated with the representation of convection in climate models, while the parameterization of slantwise convection is the subject of Part V.

Book Convective precipitation simulated with ICON over heterogeneous surfaces in dependence on model and land surface resolution

Download or read book Convective precipitation simulated with ICON over heterogeneous surfaces in dependence on model and land surface resolution written by Singh, Shweta and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-16 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of land-surface properties like vegetation, soil type, soil moisture, and the orography on the atmosphere is manifold. These features determine the evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer, convective conditions, cloud evolution and precipitation. The impact of model grid spacing and land-surface resolution on convective precipitation over heterogeneous surfaces is investigated using ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic (ICON) simulations within the framework of the HD(CP)2 project.

Book Storm and Cloud Dynamics

  • ISBN : 0080916651
  • Pages : 826 pages

Download or read book Storm and Cloud Dynamics written by William R. Cotton and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2010-12-21 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Storm and Cloud Dynamics focuses on the dynamics of clouds and of precipitating mesoscale meteorological systems. Clouds and precipitating mesoscale systems represent some of the most important and scientifically exciting weather systems in the world. These are the systems that produce torrential rains, severe winds including downburst and tornadoes, hail, thunder and lightning, and major snow storms. Forecasting such storms represents a major challenge since they are too small to be adequately resolved by conventional observing networks and numerical prediction models. - Provides a complete treatment of clouds integrating the analysis of air motions with cloud structure, microphysics, and precipitation mechanics - Describes and explains the basic types of clouds and cloud systems that occur in the atmosphere-fog, stratus, stratocumulus, altocumulus, altostratus, cirrus, thunderstorms, tornadoes, waterspouts, orographically induced clouds, mesoscale convection complexes, hurricanes, fronts, and extratropical cyclones - Summarizes the fundamentals, both observational and theoretical, of atmospheric dynamics, thermodynamics, cloud microphysics, and radar meteorology, allowing each type of cloud to be examined in depth - Integrates the latest field observations, numerical model simulations, and theory - Supplies a theoretical treatment suitable for the advanced undergraduate or graduate level, as well as post-graduate

Book Desert Meteorology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thomas T. Warner
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2009-01-18
  • ISBN : 113944963X
  • Pages : 623 pages

Download or read book Desert Meteorology written by Thomas T. Warner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-18 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aridity prevails over more than one third of the land area of the Earth and over a significant fraction of the oceans as well. Yet to date there has been no comprehensive reference volume or textbook dealing with the weather processes that define the character of desert areas. Desert Meteorology fills this gap by treating all aspects of desert weather.

Book Deforestation Around the World

Download or read book Deforestation Around the World written by Paulo Moutinho and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-30 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deforestation and forest degradation represent a significant fraction of the annual worldwide human-induced emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, the main source of biodiversity losses and the destruction of millions of people's homes. Despite local/regional causes, its consequences are global. This book provides a general view about deforestation dynamics around the world, incorporating analyses of its causes, impacts and actions to prevent it. Its 17 Chapters, organized in three sections, refer to deforestation impacts on climate, soil, biodiversity and human population, but also describe several initiatives to prevent it. A special emphasis is given to different remote-sensing and mapping techniques that could be used as a source for decision-makers and society to promote forest conservation and control deforestation.
