Book Cowboys and Indians and Pegasus Dreams

Download or read book Cowboys and Indians and Pegasus Dreams written by Catherine Ann Andress and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a third generation Texas woman born in a small town in the center of the Texas Panhandle. Over protected and reared to be a wife and mother just as all the women in her family had been, her goal became just that, to be a wife and mother and to have a family of her own. Fate intervened, however, at every crossroad when her difficult first marriage to a rancher ended and she faced life as a single parent. After remarrying a few years later she was soon tragically widowed and, at 31, had to bury the man she loved so dearly. He was a Pathologist whose own terrible twist of fate occurred at the beginning of his medical career when, as an intern at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, he assisted with the initial postmortem exam on our late President John F. Kennedy. From that moment he was forced to live with deadly secrets which severely altered his life forever. This story focuses on the author's great struggle to believe in herself to face the world alone and the unbelievable frustration of having to again and again tolerate and rise above numerous legal entanglements, drastic financial losses and, on top of everything else, employment injustices; all this while rearing her daughter with no one by her side to believe in her. In midlife, she was brought to her knees after having a series of tragic events when she even prayed to die... this time she was led to the Great Throne of God’s Grace. In writing this she was able to revisit and immortalize those she loved so dearly after losing precious loved ones tragically...a life impossible but for the grace of God and for scriptures such as: Proverbs 3: 5 & 6, “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths”; Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me, but God meant it unto good”; and Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans”.

Book Blacktop Cowboys

Download or read book Blacktop Cowboys written by Ty Phillips and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating account of the world of competitive steer wrestling and the talented, live-fast, bruise-hard rodeo cowboys who do it. Ty Phillips's Blacktop Cowboys chronicles the 2004 rodeo season through the eyes of several steer wrestlers trying to make it back to rodeo's version of the Super Bowl, the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas. Steer wrestling is an adventure that entails riding into an arena at 25 mph, sliding off a horse while taking hold of a 500-pound steer, and then throwing the animal to the ground. The best cowboys often accomplish all this in less than four seconds. The two main characters of Blacktop Cowboys are Luke Branquinho, a young carefree cowboy on a quest for his first title, and his best friend, Travis Cadwell, a veteran trying to make the NFR one last time. Much of Blacktop Cowboys unfolds in trucks, trailers, arenas, behind the chutes, casinos, beds and everywhere else cowboys spend their time. By taking the reader deep into the cowboys' lives, Blacktop Cowboys offers a true and intimate portrait of men having the time of their lives while living on the road in pursuit of the dream to be the best.

The last place Wyatt Callahan thought he'd ever return was to his home town. Vivid images of Abby — his beautiful neighbor and his one and only love — rushed through him bringing heartache. From day one he began writing Abby love letters, disappointed when he never heard back from her. Had something happened to stop her from writing to him? When he found out a year later that Abby had married his good friend, Wyatt was heartbroken. Now years later, it was the unexpected death of Abby’s husband in the line of duty that was one of the reasons he returned home. The other was the sudden death of his father, Mack Callahan. Wyatt stood rigidly nearby the fresh graves of the two men he respected and loved most in this world and knew it was time for him to come home to stay. With a dying request from his Dad and a driving need consuming him, Wyatt determined he wouldn’t stop until he made things right between himself and those he loved. She’s newly widowed, heartbroken and still angry at her best friend for loving and leaving her years ago… Abby Meadows Hart spent her childhood on her family’s ranch next door to the Callahan family. Sharing everything with her best friend Wyatt, she eventually fell in love with him. Book Hoo Doo Cowboys and Bronze Buckaroos

Download or read book Hoo Doo Cowboys and Bronze Buckaroos written by Michael K. Johnson and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2014-01-08 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hoo-Doo Cowboys and Bronze Buckaroos undertakes an interdisciplinary exploration of the African American West through close readings of texts from a variety of media. This approach allows for both an in-depth analysis of individual texts and a discussion of material often left out or underrepresented in studies focused only on traditional literary material. The book engages heretofore unexamined writing by Rose Gordon, who wrote for local Montana newspapers rather than for a national audience; memoirs and letters of musicians, performers, and singers (such as W. C. Handy and Taylor Gordon), who lived in or wrote about touring the American West; the novels and films of Oscar Micheaux; black-cast westerns starring Herb Jeffries; largely unappreciated and unexamined episodes from the "golden age of western television" that feature African American actors; film and television westerns that use science fiction settings to imagine a "postracial" or "postsoul" frontier; Percival Everett's fiction addressing contemporary black western experience; and movies as recent as Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Despite recent interest in the history of the African American West, we know very little about how the African American past in the West has been depicted in a full range of imaginative forms. Hoo-Doo Cowboys and Bronze Buckaroos advances our discovery of how the African American West has been experienced, imagined, portrayed, and performed.

Book A Reign of Thunder Second Edition

Download or read book A Reign of Thunder Second Edition written by Wayne Kyle Spitzer and published by Hobb's End Books. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cooper "Coup" Black--yes, yes, just like the font--has a couple problems. Well, who doesn't? For one, his book deal has fallen through, leading him to do something, well, unfortunate. To his publisher. Two, he's picked up a hitchhiker--a hot, young (too young; as in half his age) available hitchhiker, whom he doesn't really know what to do with. And three, he's in the wrong place at the wrong time--as in a truck-stop on the Mexican border ... surrounded by shadowy predators. More, it soon becomes evident that something is at work to reverse time itself; something which makes people vanish--seemingly at random--and ancient trees to appear out of nowhere. Something against which Coup, Tess, an unravelling President of the United States, and others, will make their final stand.
