Book Comparative Analysis of Torsional Strength Between Profile GT and GT Series X TM Nickel Titanium Rotary Instruments

Download or read book Comparative Analysis of Torsional Strength Between Profile GT and GT Series X TM Nickel Titanium Rotary Instruments written by Jake Reynolds and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to compare the resistance to fracture by the twisting of two nickel titanium (NiTi) rotary file systems. The Profile® GT® (GT) and the GT® Series X(TM) (GTX) files were tested to analyze the maximum torsional strength and the maximum angular deflection at the time of separation of the files. For each system, ten new files were tested at each of the following eight taper/size designations for a total of 160 files: 20/0.04, 20/0.06, 30/0.04, 30/0.06, 30/0.08, 40/0.04, 40/0.06, and 40/0.08. The American National Standards Institute / American Dental Association Specification No. 28 was implemented to evaluate torsional limits for these intruments. Files were mounted in a Maillefer Torsiometre machine, which records maximum torsional strength and angular deflection at separation for each file. A two-way ANOVA revealed significant differences after comparing the size and type of file. The GT files required significantly more torque to separate than the GTX files in all groups tested except the GTX file size 20/0.06, which required significantly more maximum torque than the GT file, with no significant difference between the GT and GTX files for size 30/0.04. The GT files exhibited values for angular deflection at separation that were significantly higher than those for the GTX files at sizes 30/0.04 and 40/0.08 and the GTX files exhibited higher values at size 30/0.08 with no significant difference between the brands at the remaining five file sizes. In summary, the GT files required significantly more torque to fracture and exhibited values for angular deflection at separation that were significantly higher than the GTX files for in 6 of 8 and 2 of 8 file sizes, respectively.

Book The Effect of Operational Speed on the Fracture of Nickel Titanium Rotary Instruments

Download or read book The Effect of Operational Speed on the Fracture of Nickel Titanium Rotary Instruments written by George Gray Kitchens and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous nickel titanium rotary file systems have been introduced in recent years. The recommended speed at which these files are to be operated varies widely between manufacturers. The purpose of this study was to test the number of rotations to fracture of NiTi rotary files when operated at different speeds and at different angles. Sixty size 25 Profile® nickel titanium rotary files were tested, thirty 0.04 and thirty 0.06 taper. Files were operated at speeds of 350 or 600 rpm and at angles of 25°, 28°, and 33.5°. The time to fracture was recorded and the numbers of rotations to fracture were calculated. The data was analyzed using a two-way ANOVA, and post hoc Tukey-Kramer multiple-comparison test with alpha = .001. The results show a significant difference in the number of rotations fracture according to taper and angle. Files of .06 taper fractured more readily than files of .04 taper as the speed increased, and the time to fracture decreased for both tapers as the angle increased. No significant difference was produced by the speed at which the files were operated. The number of rotations until fracture of NiTi rotary files is not related to the operational speed.

Book An in Vitro Comparison of Cyclic Fatigue of Profile Vortex trademark and Endosequence trademark Rotary Nickel titanium Files

Download or read book An in Vitro Comparison of Cyclic Fatigue of Profile Vortex trademark and Endosequence trademark Rotary Nickel titanium Files written by Fawaz T. Al-Foraih and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine the number of rotations to fracture (cyclic fatigue) of the Profile ® Vortex [trademark] files (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK) compared to the EndoSequence [trademark] files (Brasseler USA, Savannah, GA) using an in-vitro apparatus simulating a curved canal. Two hundred Profile® Vortex [trademark] files of 25mm length were divided equally into ten groups, one for each of the Profile® Vortex [trademark] files 20/0.04, 20/0.06, 25/0.04, 25/0.06, 30/0.04, 30/0.06, 35/0.04, 35/0.06, 40/0.04, and 40/0.06. Two hundred EndoSequence [trademark] files of 25mm length were divided equally into ten groups of the same tip and taper sizes analogous to the Profile® Vortex [trademark] file groups. Files were rotated at 500 rpm in a fixed groove in the metal block of the apparatus. The angle of deflection for all files was fixed at 33 degrees, determined using the Schneider method. The time from initiation of rotation to fracture was recorded and rotations to fracture were calculated. The data collected was analyzed using a multi-way ANOVA, followed by specific post-hoc contrasts comparing the two brands for each tip and taper combination. The results demonstrated that the Profile® Vortex [trademark] files required significantly greater rotations to fracture than the EndoSequence [trademark] (p
