Book A Comparison of Solid Fuel Ramjet Flow Characteristics and Combustion Behavior

Download or read book A Comparison of Solid Fuel Ramjet Flow Characteristics and Combustion Behavior written by Brian Andrew Binn and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted to determine if there is a relationship between the cold flow characteristics of velocity, pressure distribution, and turbulence intensity and the reacting flow performance and combustion characteristics of a solid fuel ramjet. The effects of configuration and air flow changes on the above characteristics were examined. Average regression rates and combustion efficiencies were not significantly affected by changes in configuration. These variations in test conditions significantly affected the center-line turbulence intensity but not the near-wall turbulence intensity in cold flow. The use of bypass resulted in decreases in regression rate and efficiencies for all cases. Attainable performance appears to be most strongly related to near-wall turbulence intensity/mixing and to the amount of fuel reaching the aft mixing chamber. (Author).

Book An Investigation of the Reacting and Non Reacting Flow Characteristics of Solid Fuel Ramjets

Download or read book An Investigation of the Reacting and Non Reacting Flow Characteristics of Solid Fuel Ramjets written by Winston Elliott Scott and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to determine the relationship between the non-reacting and the reacting flow characteristics of solid fuel ramjets. Polymethylmethacrylate fuel grains were burned in a ramjet motor on a thrust stand. Combustion efficiency, regression rate profile and pressures were determined for the reacting flows and compared to profiles obtained in non-reacting flows for velocity, pressure, and near-wall and centerline turbulence intensity. Near-wall turbulence profiles were in agreement with the fuel regression profiles obtained in reacting flows. Combustion efficiency was found to be a strong function of mixture ratio. Near-wall mixing significantly increased fuel regression rate. (Author).

Book Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets Vol II Effects of Fuel Properties and Fuel air Mixing on Combustion Efficiency

Download or read book Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets Vol II Effects of Fuel Properties and Fuel air Mixing on Combustion Efficiency written by Michael E. Metochianakis and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental SFRJ fuel properties were determined using a DTA and a gas chromatograph for both high and low heating rates. The performance of these fuels was then measured under various operating conditions and test geometries. Fuel properties were found to have some effect on the obtainable combustion efficiency but much larger effects could be induced by the flow conditions (induced mixing near the fuel surface, bypass air, etc.). Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing. house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 25 (thesis year 1980) a total of 10,308 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 214 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 25 reports theses submitted in 1980, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Flow Characteristics in Solid Fuel Ramjets

Download or read book Flow Characteristics in Solid Fuel Ramjets written by Joseph Theodore Phaneuf and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the internal ballistics of solid fuel ramjets was conducted in order to determine the effects of inlet step size, inlet velocity and wall blowing on flow characteristics behind a backward facing step inlet. It was shown that the reattachment point (zone) moves toward the step inlet with wall mass addition at a constant inlet mass flux. For a given step inlet, however, the leading edge of the reattachment zone was stationary with variations in inlet velocity. A point where the wall temperature and centerline static pressure profiles leveled off simultaneously was defined as the end of the reattachment zone. This zone spread out (grew thicker) both with increasing inlet velocity for a given step size, and with increasing step height. Maximum wall temperatures occurred downstream of the reattachment zone. Book An Experimental Investigation of the Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets written by Grant Allan Begley (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limited experimental data indicated that fuel vapor composition within the SFRJ combustor may have a significant effect on the obtainable combustion efficiency and upon the dependence of combustion efficiency upon equivalence ratio and air mass flow rate. Combustor pressure oscillations in bypass operation were found to increase regression rates when using PMM fuel grains and to increase or decrease combustion efficiency depending upon equivalence ratio.

Book An Investigation of the Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets

Download or read book An Investigation of the Combustion Behavior of Solid Fuel Ramjets written by Clemens James Mady (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental and analytical investigation was conducted of the combustion behavior in solid fuel ramjets. The effects of configuration variables on combustion performance were experimentally determined. Air ducting methods were found to affect combustion efficiency through port flow rates, bypass dump momentum and geometry and bypass ratio. Bypass configurations with plexiglas fuel altered the heat transfer mechanisms within the port and decreased combustion efficiency. The analytical model was found to be in qualitative agreement with experimental data. Finite rate kinetics and radiative transfer to the fuel surface will be required in the model to obtain more quantitative accuracy. (Author).
