Book A Commentary on the Mutus Liber

Download or read book A Commentary on the Mutus Liber written by Adam McLean and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifteen plates of the Mutus Liber "the Mute Book," are well known, and this book without words is recognized as a classic of the seventeenth-century alchemical tradition. Although the engravings seem to outline an alchemical process in detail, their message is not immediately obvious and it really requires a commentary to make it intelligible to the present-day reader. Adam McLean's extensive commentary on this series of engravings reveals the Mutus Liber as a synthesis of spiritual, soul, and physical alchemy. While the entire secret of the physical process is not fully revealed in the plates, enough information is given to piece together details of a modus operandi/ indeed, modern French alchemists like Canseliet and Barbault have found great inspiration and hints relating to the physical work in the Mutus Liber. As one of the most significant documents of the alchemical tradition, this edition of the Mutus Liber will be appreciated by all students of the Hermetic tradition, for Adam McLean's fascinating and insightful commentary throws a penetrating light on both the spiritual and physical dimensions of the Great Work.

Book The Alchemical Mandala

Download or read book The Alchemical Mandala written by Adam McLean and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mandalas have long been recognized in Eastern spiritual traditions as important tools for focusing meditation. Though various Western traditions possess such contemplative tools, they have not often been recognized as such. McLean remedies this by presenting, and analyzing in great depth, over forty beautiful engravings, reproduced as full-page illustrations, from alchemical, kabbalistic, magical, Rosicrucian, and Hermetic sources. This second edition of the first book exclusively dedicated to the mandala tradition in the West is an extremely valuable sourcework for its illustrations and commentaries. Not only is it a comprehensive guide to reading the cosmological and spiritual symbolism of alchemical engravings, it also outlines three ways for working with these mandalas as spiritual exercises.

  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book Mutus Liber Loquitur written by Altus and published by . This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mutus Liber is an epistemological treatise. The alchemical laboratory is the mind. In it, thoughts are chemical compounds and their processes are reactions producing knowledge. The operation works on the mind. The alchemical transmutation takes place in the mind, by the mind and through the mind in all its stages, conscious, subconscious, unconscious and beyond. Therefore, the key to interpret the plates and to open the mouth of the Mute Book is gnoseological. The chemical elements, consequently, are only metaphors to describe the epistemic process.

Download or read book Splendor Solis written by Dr. Stephen Skinner and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only high-quality yet affordable edition available of the classic alchemical manuscript Splendor Solis, described as "the most magnificent treatise on alchemy ever made". Includes up-to-date commentary from experts in the field and a modern translation of the 16th-century text. A magnificent edition of the Splendor Solis for all those interested in alchemy, magic and mysterious manuscripts. Popularly attributed to the legendary figure Salomon Trismosin, the Splendor Solis ('Splendour of the Sun') is the most beautiful alchemical manuscript ever made, with 22 fabulous illustrations rich in allegorical and mystical symbolism. The paintings are given a fitting showcase in this new Watkins edition, which accompanies them with Joscelyn Godwin's excellent contemporary translation of the original 16th-century German text, as well as interpretation from alchemical experts Stephen Skinner and Georgiana Hedesan, and from Rafal T. Prinke, an authority in central and Eastern European esoteric manuscripts. Stephen Skinner explains the symbolism of both the text and the illustrations, suggesting that together they describe the physical process of the alchemical transmutation of base metal into gold. Rafal T. Prinke explains the theories about the authorship of both text and illustrations, discussing Splendor Solis as the turning point in alchemical iconography passing from the medieval tradition to that of the Baroque and the reasons for the misattribution of Splendor Solis to Poysel and Trismosin. Georgiana Hedesan looks at the legendary figure of Salomon Trismosin and his creation by followers of Theophrastus Paracelsus as part of an attempt to integrate their master in a lineage of ancient alchemical philosophers. The images are taken from the British Library manuscript Harley 3469, the finest example of the Splendor Solis to survive.

Book ALCHEMY AND ITS MUTE BOOK

Download or read book ALCHEMY AND ITS MUTE BOOK written by Eugène Canseliet F.C.H. and published by Inner Garden Press. This book was released on 2015-12-27 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ALCHEMY AND ITS MUTE BOOK. In the year of foundation in 2010, we published Br. Magaphon’s commentary on the Mutus Liber – the Book Without Words. This year we offer commentary on the Mutus Liber from Magaphon’s friend and associate: Eugène Canseliet. Canseliet had a most pivotal role in the transmission of the alchemical tradition in Europe in the 20th century. Canseliet may not quite touch upon the innermost secrets of the book, as becomes obvious from the preface of Br. Exoslius, yet this book still offers a most formidable insight in the Visual Language of the Alchemists of old.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hans Nintzel added this work to the R.A.M.S. Library in 1982. It is from the British Museum printed book, 122 pages, 8905 A 15 in German "Donum Dei" (Samullis Baruch), "Abraham the Jew" (in German), 87 pages bound with 9005 A 15. Abraham Eleazar was probably a fictitious name used by the author. It appears that the book was first published in Leipzig in 1760 with the title, "R. Abrahami Eleazaris Uraltes Chymisches Werk," although an edition from 1735 is said to exist (see Note at the end of the Forward). The author might have been Julius Gervasius of Schwarzburg. The Forward states that the author took illustrations from the copper tablets of Tubal-Cain, a person mentioned in Genesis 4:22.

Book Theatrum Chemicum Brittannicum

Download or read book Theatrum Chemicum Brittannicum written by Elias Ashmole and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To All Ingeniously Elaborate Students, In the most Divine Mysteries of Hermetique Learning." Or so British politician and Freemason ELIAS ASHMOLE (1617-1692) dedicated this curious artifact of the esoteric and spiritual philosophy of alchemy. An avid collector of antiquaries and other oddities (they were, upon his death, bequeathed to Oxford University, which used them to found the Ashmolean Museum), Ashmole counted among his treasures volumes of metaphysical poems available only in private, and fiercely guarded, manuscripts. In 1652, though, he collected many of these writings in this hefty tome, annotated with his own comments. Included are: . "The Ordinall of Alchimy" by Thomas Norton . "The Compound of Alchymie" by Sir George Ripley . "Liber Patris Sapientiae" . "The Tale of the Chanons Yeoman" by Geoffry Chaucer . "The Worke of John Dastin" . "The Hunting of the Greene Lyon" by the Viccar of Malden . "Bloomsfields Blossoms: Or, The Campe of Philosophy" . "Sir Ed Kelley Concerning the Philosopher's Stone" . and much more. Once a resource for such natural philosophers as Isaac Newton, the Theatrum Chemicum Brittannicum remains an astonishing album of arcania.

Book Gnosis and Hermeticism from Antiquity to Modern Times

Download or read book Gnosis and Hermeticism from Antiquity to Modern Times written by R. van den Broek and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume introduces what has sometimes been called "the third component of western culture". It traces the historical development of those religious traditions which have rejected a world view based on the primacy of pure rationality or doctrinal faith, emphasizing instead the importance of inner enlightenment or gnosis: a revelatory experience which was typically believed to entail an encounter with one's true self as well as with the ground of being, God. The contributors to this book demonstrate this perspective as fundamental to a variety of interconnected traditions. In Antiquity, one finds the gnostics and hermetics; in the Middle Ages several Christian sects. The medieval Cathars can, to a certain extent, be considered part of the same tradition. Starting with the Italian humanist Renaissance, hermetic philosophy became of central importance to a new religious synthesis that can be referred to as Western Esotericism. The development of this tradition is described from Renaissance hermeticists and practitioners of spiritual alchemy to the emergence of Rosicrucianism and Christian theosophy in the seventeenth century, and from post-enlightenment aspects of Romanticism and occultism to the present-day New Age movement.

Book excerpt: THIS BOOK REVEALS THE CONSPIRACY BY LEONARDO, NEWTON, GOETHE AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE INITIATE TRADITION TO INFLUENCE THE COURSE OF HISTORY BY MAGIC. From the dawn of history and perhaps beyond a small group of magi working within a specific magical tradition have believed they have been influencing the course of history, guiding mankind towards higher levels of consciousness. Theirs is a reincarnationist philosophy and they believe that, as initiates of the highest order, they return in local groups at key moments to conspire to change the course of events. Whether or not their beliefs are right, whether or not their magical practices work in the way they believe, this book will prove that certain remarkable individuals, many of them famous in other areas, have undoubtedly held these beliefs. Bestsellers such as HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL and THE TOMB OF GOD have been written by amateur historians trying to penetrate the veil of secrecy that surrounds this conspiracy; here for the first time an initiate of the order reveals the truth.

Book Jung and the Alchemical Imagination

Download or read book Jung and the Alchemical Imagination written by Jeffrey Raff and published by Nicolas-Hays, Inc.. This book was released on 2000-11-15 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jung and the Alchemical Imagination illustrates the spiritual nature of Jungian psychology and the debt it owes to the tradition of esoteric religion. Unlike other books on Jung and alchemy which contain a psychological interpretation of alchemical material, this work uses alchemy to understand the three cornerstones of Jungian spirituality--the self, the transcendent function, and active imagination. Through the interpretation of alchemical imagery, Raff explains the nature of these three concepts and illustrates how together they form a new model of contemporary Western spirituality. This book is also unique in selecting alchemical texts for analysis that are relatively unknown and which, for the most part, have never been interpreted. In addition, he presents two new concepts--the ally and the psychoid realm. Through the addition of these ideas, and the new understanding that they offer, it is possible to apply alchemical imagery to transpsychic experience/ that is, to a world of spirits which may not be reduced to psychological concepts. By including this realm in the study of alchemy and Jungian thought, it is possible to gain insights into the nature of visionary and ecstatic experiences that form part of the path of individuation--the road to completion.
