Download or read book The Name Quest written by John Avery and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insightful journey through all the biblical names of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Beginning in Babel and ending with a burning Babylon, The Name Quest explains the significance that the different names for God have for an everyday relationship with God and for spiritual growth. The names of God are like a rainbow--each name expresses part of the spectrum of the character and attributes of God. Along the way, the author tenderly answers tough questions: Which of the Hebrew names of God is His personal name--Yahweh or Jehovah? What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name? How can we relate to the Holy God and the Judge? Why is a God of love called the “Jealous God”? What does it mean to call Jesus the Messiah? The Name Quest mentions all the names of God in the Bible while explaining their significance in ordinary language. The author weaves together fifteen years of Bible study research with plentiful illustrations and humorous anecdotes. These include lessons learned as a pastor on a Caribbean island. A visit to a Welsh hill farm introduces a chapter about the Good Shepherd. The story of a Hungarian political prisoner illustrates the meaning of Immanuel (or is it Emmanuel?) A rescue from the slopes of an active volcano helps explain salvation and the meaning of Jesus’ Hebrew name Yeshua. Even the clever advertisement on a packet of potato chips offers a lesson about how to grow in faith in God. Unlike chasing rainbows, the spiritual journey has an end. The Name Quest is a road map for every Christian’s spiritual journey and it points to the destination--being formed into the image of Jesus Christ. The Name Quest examines God's names in chapters about God's character or things that He has done. Most of God's names reflect His character. For instance a chapter on holiness mentions all the names connected to that attribute. The index of names makes this book an excellent reference tool. People who read part of a chapter a day say it makes a good devotional too.

  • Pages : 297 pages

Download or read book Awesome Families written by Kathleen E. Jenkins and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denounced by some as a dangerous cult and lauded by others as a miraculous faith community, the International Churches of Christ was a conservative evangelical Christian movement that grew rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s. Among its followers, promises to heal family relationships were central to the group's appeal. Members credit the church for helping them develop so-called "awesome families"-successful marriages and satisfying relationships with children, family of origin, and new church "brothers and sisters." The church engaged an elaborate array of services, including round-the-clock counseling, childcare, and Christian dating networks-all of which were said to lead to fulfilling relationships and exciting sex lives. Before the unified movement's demise in 2003-2004, the lure of blissful family-life led more than 100,000 individuals worldwide to be baptized into the church. In Awesome Families, Kathleen Jenkins draws on four years of ethnographic research to explain how and why so many individuals-primarily from middle- to upper-middle-class backgrounds-were attracted to this religious group that was founded on principles of enforced community, explicit authoritative relationships, and therapeutic ideals. Weaving classical and contemporary social theory, she argues that members were commonly attracted to the structure and practice of family relationships advocated by the church, especially in the context of contemporary society where gender roles and family responsibilities are often ambiguous. Tracing the rise and fall of this fast-growing religious movement, this timely study adds to our understanding of modern society and offers insight to the difficulties that revivalist movements have in sustaining growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pirnahad has initially gathered the material of this book in the format of different articles as relating to crucial concepts that have affected the history, and evolution of mankind. Afterwards, He decided to transform these inspirational writings into a comprehensive book of revelations. He has received the necessary information not only through endless, sincere and honest research, continuous education, but also through faith in God, intuition, insight, vision, meditation and dreams. All contents and basic materials of this book have been thought and initially constructed and defined in the English (American) language, within its socio-cultural, historic and religious course of development. Moreover, all basic concepts have been developed on the basis of a universal conscience, and therefore, most views could be also understood and adapted by other languages, within their specific cultural environment. This book has been mostly the result of the insight and many visions the author has been receiving through the capacity of his soul, mind and spirit and within a multi-dimensional platform, therefore, there are only few references to outside sources. His book has been nevertheles based on a comprehensive library of multi faceted references in different fiels as related to the subject of his book. Pirnahad's effort to prepare and write this book is solely based on the principle that those who possess special spiritual, intellectual and creative talents, should reveal and share their thoughts, works and ideasfor the benefit of mankind. The author has reserved high hopes that at this crucial time in human evolution and history, this effort could help everyone gain a better insight into major concepts concerning faith, humanity, history, culture, languages and evolution, and develop a more meaningful and profound way of life.
