Book Proceedings of the International Renewable Energy Storage Conference IRES 2022

Download or read book Proceedings of the International Renewable Energy Storage Conference IRES 2022 written by Peter Schossig and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book.Energy storage systems are the key to the successful energy transition to full renewable energy supply and are more relevant today than ever before. They address numerous challenges of the energy transition at once: stabilise the electricity grids, support the shutdown of power plants, make regionally generated electricity available locally and compensate for fluctuations in renewable energy generation. For more than 15 years now, EUROSOLAR has dedicated the annual International Conference on Renewable Energy Storage (IRES) to this important topic. The conference, which has been organised in partnership with Messe Düsseldorf since 2015, addressed the current state of research and the social, political and legal framework conditions of energy storage technologies from 20 to 22 September 2022, as part of its exhibitions on decarbonised industries. In up to three parallel series of lectures, experts from science, practice, politics and society focused on the current state of knowledge about energy storage. In recent years, more than 4000 visitors attended Energy Storage Europe, the predecessor of Messe Düsseldorf’s decarbXpo and IRES, each year. In plenary sessions, topic-specific lecture series and discussion rounds, around 150 lectures were presented including a large poster exhibition. We look forward to welcoming you to the 17th IRES in 2023.

Book Advances in Thermal Energy Storage Systems

Download or read book Advances in Thermal Energy Storage Systems written by Luisa F. Cabeza and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-10-31 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal energy storage (TES) technologies store thermal energy (both heat and cold) for later use as required, rather than at the time of production. They are therefore important counterparts to various intermittent renewable energy generation methods and also provide a way of valorising waste process heat and reducing the energy demand of buildings. This book provides an authoritative overview of this key area. Part one reviews sensible heat storage technologies. Part two covers latent and thermochemical heat storage respectively. The final section addresses applications in heating and energy systems. - Reviews sensible heat storage technologies, including the use of water, molten salts, concrete and boreholes - Describes latent heat storage systems and thermochemical heat storage - Includes information on the monitoring and control of thermal energy storage systems, and considers their applications in residential buildings, power plants and industry

Book Airborne Wind Energy

Download or read book Airborne Wind Energy written by Roland Schmehl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-31 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides in-depth coverage of the latest research and development activities concerning innovative wind energy technologies intended to replace fossil fuels on an economical basis. Shifting the spotlight to “Control, Optimization & Flight State Measurement”, Part II combines one chapter on measurement techniques with five chapters on control of kite and ground stations, and two chapters on optimization. Part III on “Concept Design & Analysis” includes three chapters that present and analyze novel harvesting concepts as well as two chapters on system component design. Part IV, which centers on “Implemented Concepts”, presents five chapters on established system concepts and one chapter about a subsystem for automatic launching and landing of kites. In closing, Part V focuses with four chapters on “Technology Deployment” related to market and financing strategies, as well as on regulation and the environment. The book builds on the success of the first volume “Airborne Wind Energy” (Springer, 2013), and offers a self-contained reference guide for researchers, scientists, professionals and students. Book Smart Bioenergy

Download or read book Smart Bioenergy written by Daniela Thrän and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomass is a vital source of renewable energy, because it offers a wide range of established and potential methods for energy generation. It is also an important facet of the progression toward a sustainable energy future. The need for further development in the provision of bioenergy is underlined by challenges affecting the biomass resource base, including rising demand for biomass for food, feed, materials and fuel. This is underlined by significant concerns over factors relating to land, such as soil, nutrients and biodiversity. This book examines and analyzes Germany's decade-long initiative toward implementation of an active policy for the transition of the energy system to make greater use of renewable energy sources, which has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of biomass used for electricity, heat and transport fuel. The book begins with a review of market and resource base issues and moves on to analyze the technical options for a more integrated bioenergy use. The analysis spans the entire bioenergy provision chain including solid, liquid and gaseous biofuels. A case study offers a detailed model of the effects of smart biomass energy on the German energy system. The book closes with a view of the most promising fields and an appraisal of needed elements for a successful transition.
